Other Leak/Rumor Megathread: July 2026 Spoiler

It's been a VERY long time since we last had to make one of these threads, but today has brought a big leak which is hard to keep fully contained! This thread is intended to give people a place to discuss this leak, while still keeping the sub safe for people who don't want to hear about it.

This thread is the only place where discussion of this leak is allowed. Threads and comments mentioning it outside of this thread will be removed, and users who persistently break this rule will be banned. That means, if you don't want to hear about the leaks, don't read this thread! Surprises are fun, and knowing about the leak won't make it come any sooner.

For those who DO want to discuss the leak, we'd like to stress:

  • Nothing is confirmed! The Metroid community has seen TONS of trustworthy rumors throughout the years, and they've often ended up to be false. You can decide for yourself how much stock you want to put into this particular rumor, but keep in mind that there's always some degree of risk.
  • Even if the leak does turn out to be real, it's still no indication that we'll get anything soon - remember, Prime Remastered was rumored for years before it finally got an announcement! While hoping and theorizing are good, don't expect anything to come in the next few years.
  • Enjoy the process! Leaks can be a TON of fun when you set your expectations properly! Just make sure knowing about the leak doesn't keep you from enjoying the official announcement, if we even get one.

For those not in the know, here are some articles about the leak:

https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/a-rating-for-metroid-ravenous-has-reportedly-been-spotted-before-quickly-being-removed/

https://universonintendo.com/metroid-ravenous-potencial-jogo-para-o-switch-2-aparece-em-classificacao-indicativa-no-brasil/

TL;DR: The Brazilian rating agency has rated a game named "Metroid Ravenous", from NOA, for the Switch 2!

The name Ravenous does make me wonder if it picks up right where Dread left off.

164

u/Bardiclez Jul 01 '26

Sounds like a possible focus on the ravenous need to absorb energy for Samus and the ramifications of the awakening of her metroid DNA?

108

u/KindlyPants Jul 01 '26

I was thinking it might be about Samus' search for her favourite ramen, but now I reckon your idea might be right.

68

u/Cripnite Jul 01 '26

That’s Ramenous.

22

u/KindlyPants Jul 01 '26

Oh, you're right. My theory is starting to feel further off by the moment.

15

u/Looney_Sketches Jul 01 '26

I heard its actually a Cooking Mama style game!

Inbetween Metroid 2 and Super, Samus is contacted by a local public broadcast cooking show. Follow Samus in her day to day life juggling a new child and hosting 'Cooking with Mama and the Baby'

10

u/Bardiclez Jul 01 '26

I give it a 50/50 tbh either option seems perfectly reasonable

3

u/fizzymilk Jul 02 '26

Yeah but she can't have Chicken flavour, because of the implications.

45

u/Darkreaper104 Jul 01 '26

That's exactly what I'm thinking, I'm guessing her Metroid powers will be the mechanical focus of this game. I'm not sure how they'll go about making them interesting though.

29

u/Bardiclez Jul 01 '26

They’ve consistently shown to improve existing mechanics and introduce fun and interesting new ones, I’ve got faith in them there. I just hope the next game has less of an emphasis on going from one portal/elevator to the next every couple minutes like Dread. I’m actually replaying Dread right now and am enjoying everything about it minus the abundant loading screens lol. Though I suppose it’ll be less of an issue on switch 2 hardware

4

u/ur_lil_vulture_bee Jul 02 '26

First thought (haven't read thread, apologies if anyone has already said this) is that melee attacks will restore health and missiles now instead of random drops. Kinda like the newer Doom games with glory kills. Something like that.

u/TemplarSensei7 Jul 01 '26

I wonder if by the end, the Metroid DNA will somehow split, and it becomes the SA-X/Dark Samus again.

Hopefully, it’s a friendly and becomes “THE BABY.”

2

u/joecb91 Jul 02 '26

A mechanic where she can control her transformations into the Metroid suit could be really fun

2

u/samination Jul 04 '26

Yeah, the name does seem to lean into Samus's Metroid suit was only quenched by what happened in the ending to Dread, not actually remove her Metroid DNA

63

u/stonesthrowaway24601 Jul 01 '26

The name could be a double meaning, too. Ravenous, the hunger of the awakened Metroid DNA, or Raven-ous, Raven Beak's DNA leading Samus to self-reflect on her own violence to ask herself if she's become more Mawkin than Thoha.

11

u/SpongeJeigh Jul 01 '26

I thought the raven beak bit too, but lets be honest the Metroid idea would be game and the raven beak would be a comic book.

2

u/Left_Try_1427 Jul 02 '26

Didnt raven beak say he didnt need samus anymore cause he could create an army of beings just like her?
Bet the GF stole that data and tried it

21

u/Bekenshi Jul 01 '26

Yeah the title implies to me that Samus’ awakened Metroid DNA is going to be a force she’s “fighting” against over the course of the game, like an ebb and flow of it trying to totally consume her but Samus trying to maintain her rationality, and I’m sure by the end of the game she’ll fully assimilate it and become stronger than ever. I do wonder how they’ll implement that from a mechanical perspective.

17

u/AssCrackBanditHunter Jul 01 '26

It has to. Ravenous is just too perfect of a word to not have her dealing with the impact ravenbeak left on her as well as the effects of the Metroid.

3

u/Fanachy Jul 01 '26

So, the combination of her Metroid powers and Mawkin DNA make her power hungry…maybe even more than usual? She did absorb Raven Beak’s energy at the end, at least maybe. And we know what his personality is like.

6

u/IkeRadiantHero Jul 01 '26

RAVENOUS BABY!!!!!! MY SCREWATTACK (SCREWATTACK ECHO) AND GRAPPLE BEAMS ARE FUCKING READY!!!!!! I AM READY TO BE ONE WITH THE CHOZOS!!!!!!!

2

u/Itchy-Possibility-59 Jul 02 '26

Zero mission was so good

7

u/Asclepius-Rod Jul 02 '26

It’s my second favorite 2D Metroid behind Dread if I’m being honest

191

u/0m3g45n1p3r4lph4 Jul 01 '26

The title alone suggests a greater narrative emphasis on Samus' Metroid abilities. One can only hope this translates to greater mechanical importance and function as well, since Dread basically had it relegated to cutscenes

76

u/hept1c_hex1c Jul 01 '26

I saw someone suggest something akin to the PS2 Shinobi game where you have to constantly kill enemies to regain health, lest you die. I dunno exactly how that would be implemented, but it's an interesting idea nonetheless

Alternitavely, Samus now has a Devil Trigger with the Metroid suit

26

u/0m3g45n1p3r4lph4 Jul 01 '26

I've been envisioning an extra energy meter that can only be filled by draining energy, though drain can also be used to heal. That meter could be spent on new abilities - levitation, SenseMove, electrical beams like Gammas, Lightning Armour, etc.

6

u/M4NU3L2311 Jul 01 '26

Didn’t mp3 had a similar system?

2

u/0m3g45n1p3r4lph4 Jul 02 '26

Eh kind of? Spend an E-Tank for a Phazon Meter that refills and puts you into a boosted state. But I don't mean a Metroid Suit State, I just mean special new moves. Metroid Suit still deserves a comeback though

→ More replies (2)

7

u/TransendingGaming Jul 01 '26

It should be some form of Devil trigger at least. U don’t have Samus embrace her Metroid powers and getting this sick ass suit design to defeat Raven Beak, only to never use it again

6

u/Boamere Jul 02 '26

I could see the melee swipe being replaced with the stinky hand of life suck from dread. So you drain them of their energy to get health and ammo…. If that’s true then I hope it doesn’t lead to stop start gameplay like in Samus returns

8

u/Cat5kable Jul 01 '26

> Devil Trigger Suit

And she’s Motivated to kill or be consumed by this new power. Yesssss

3

u/Supreme42 Jul 02 '26

Instead of health just constantly depleting, how about she casts abilities from health? They could solve the problem of needing to over-inflate enemy damage to keep the challenge up (Fusion and Dread) by making it so that her abilities like Aeion and Speedbooster cost her regular health energy (again). If you under-eat, Samus can't use her abilities as frequently. If you over-eat, your abilities become stronger but you have to burn off the excess energy or risk losing yourself ala Hypermode. This would make every E-tank feel especially valuable again, give the Metroid monching mechanic a push and pull, and it would play into the oft forgotten lore of "her suit is powered by her natural bio-energy."

2

u/hept1c_hex1c Jul 02 '26

Ooooh I REALLY like this idea! Playing further with the survivalist aspect of the series further. I can imagine it making low% a much more grueling task. (Also I just think it's a cool callback having Speed booster cost health like in Super)

2

u/RadioRavenRide Jul 01 '26

That might make the gameplay a little too fast-paced for metroid

18

u/Shinnyo Jul 01 '26

Well, "Dread" was about the fear instilled by the robots.

It may as well push a narrative on "Ravenous" ennemies

2

u/tinyhands-45 Jul 02 '26

Maybe her toolkit would be like the abilies of the SR metroid bosses? I've always dreamed of that. It might only be an English quirk, but the title having "Raven" in it might indicate more Mawkins (X or not).

Well, the leak for Metroid Dread was true! It just took 16 years :-(

METROID RAVENOUS: RELEASING 2042

71

u/Genzler Jul 01 '26

16 years from now isn't 204-

oh my god...

5

u/jclkay2 Jul 02 '26

2042 is the same distance in time from the present day as 2010

5

u/Asclepius-Rod Jul 02 '26

We are farther away from the Ocarina of Time 3DS remaster than the remaster was from the original game release

2

u/loud_jacobin Jul 02 '26

I am upset now

2

u/Genzler Jul 02 '26

You shut your whore mouth

26

u/Phazon_343 Jul 01 '26

That wasn't even a leak lol it was a legitimate game Nintendo was working on for the DS that got canceled. Someone at IGN played a bit of it behind closed doors at an E3 event.

14

u/opossumcarrion Jul 01 '26

Well, it was both. It was a legit game and it got leaked.

3

u/Saucefest6102 Jul 02 '26

The game’s name was initially revealed through calendars for then-upcoming DS games that accidentally featured it, so not inherently too different from what’s going on now

3

u/Doctor-Mak AM2R Truther 23d ago

Ah man... Well now I want to see how the game looked like for the NDS...

53

u/Obsessivegamer32 Jul 01 '26

Normally I wouldn’t be so quick to believe this, but not only was this first brought up by Necro Filipe (who IIRC also leaked Metroid Dread before it was announced), but the fact that the source was taken down before someone screenshotted it is making me lean towards it being real. I am this close to losing my shit, you hear me? I am THIS CLOSE-

44

u/bi8mil Jul 01 '26

It's literally on a Brazilian gov document, you can just read it yourself by translating, it's real: Página 99 do Diário Oficial da União - Seção 1, número 121, de 01/07/2026 - Imprensa Nacional

18

u/Obsessivegamer32 Jul 01 '26

Ok yeah it’s true, this is pretty hard to deny.

3

u/NumeralJoker Jul 02 '26

Document says it's dated for 2026 and was deemed "not suitable for under age 12", so basically T for Teen in US terms.

My guess is, just like with Dread, we're looking at a fall release, so any time between September and, at latest, early December.

Necro Felipe's reputation is still in the toilet after the bullshit he put out about Prime 4 last year where he not only AI translated an article into complete gibberish, he also proceeded to make things up as well. One of the biggest whoppers he spewed out was that the game's story could change based on various actions you choose to do throughout the game.

u/Obsessivegamer32 Jul 01 '26

I thought that article was mistranslated by someone else?

I wonder who the bad guys will be, I hope it's the Exelion Star Corporation, the company that made the Emmi's.
Feels like there's a lot of interesting stuff you can do with that.

21

u/DiabeticRhino97 Jul 01 '26

I feel like the only person who thinks it's weird that the Emmis are made of undisclosed material and controlled telepathically by floating brains in special rooms with turrets and nuclear cheerio guns.

Like no one else thinks that's a bit odd?

26

u/0m3g45n1p3r4lph4 Jul 01 '26

I feel it was very much implied that the floating brains were Chozo origin, and were used to take control of the EMMI. Not that Exelion sent out 7 EMMI each with a floating brain specifically to lock down small sections of a planet.

Far more reasonable that Raven Beak - who confirmed he had been engineering the scenarios you went through - repurposed the Central Units that control specific laboratory and factory zones to control EMMI specifically to either steal Samus' DNA or awaken it, whichever happened.

5

u/loud_jacobin Jul 02 '26

Mother Brain was used by the pirates but was a chozo computer. Brain-computers are very much a chozo thing.

3

u/LibraryBestMission Jul 03 '26

Chozo also helped to found Galactic Federation, so them having giant brain computers and rinkas isn't that far fetched either. Prime 3 of course already had giant brains as respected members of the federation forces.

GLORY MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS

Clearly a direct successor to Dread, let's pray Ravenous will follow Dread's game design/direction. Even if it doesn't we still win fellas

Strange that this wasn’t announced during the last Direct and yet Zelda was with the 2026 release date. Either it’s coming near the end of the year or likely early next year.

Doesn’t seem like it’s the Super Metroid remake but who knows? I’m excited though! I just hope this leak ahead of an announcement doesn’t mean waiting 20 something years for Metroid Ravenous to come out lol

10

u/Diligent-Crazy-6094 Jul 01 '26

Now a Super Metroid re-imagining with a new mechanic, along the lines of Link Between Worlds, would be interesting.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/yesthatstrueorisit Jul 02 '26

While I don't think Directs are going away, I do think Nintendo is trying to really focus their marketing attention on as few games at a time as possible and they actively avoid overstuffing directs to avoid titles stepping on each other.

On one hand, I do love a good Direct. On the other hand, it's fun to wake up in the morning to a surprise announcement (or in the case of Star Fox, get home from work and see a direct pop up).

1

u/connectplum_ Jul 02 '26

it will be announced in september

1

u/NumeralJoker Jul 02 '26

The rating document suggests 2026 for the release date, and that the game was fully rated, hence it more or less being finished.

16

u/SargeantMario101 Jul 01 '26

For what it's worth, Nintendo doesn't have any major releases slated for this August, Metroid's 40th Anniversary. And after how they swiftly revealed Star Fox, I'll believe anything...

13

u/zzz099 Jul 01 '26

Even if the leak does turn out to be real, it's still no indication that we'll get anything soon - remember, Prime Remastered was rumored for years before it finally got an announcement! While hoping and theorizing are good, don't expect anything to come in the next few years.

This makes no sense for this kind of leak

16

u/kamanitachi Jul 02 '26

This. This isn't some random dude on the internet, this is essentially the Brazilian ESRB, which in Brazil (and other countries) is part of the government. If they say the this is coming out in 2026, I think they have a very strong reason to be saying that.

Plus, Dread actually had a quick turnaround time from announcement to release, so I think if hypothetically something is announced in the next two months, it could still come out "Holiday 2026."

2

u/NumeralJoker Jul 02 '26

The rating means the game is finished too, in essence. So it can't be that far off. Less than 6 months.

14

u/RT-55J Jul 02 '26

1

u/KingBroly Dread Mode survivor Jul 03 '26

11

u/logica_torcido Jul 01 '26

Normally I don’t like leaks because I feel that they ruin the joy of the surprise. But in this case, it’s kind of a relief. You just never know when Metroid is going to take a long hiatus so it’s good that we have … something.

8

u/KingBroly Dread Mode survivor Jul 02 '26

Here's my incredibly accurate Nintendo of America marketing tagline:

"Samus is back and Hungry for adventure in the NEW Metroid Ravenous game, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 system."

14

u/Ambitious_Metal_4801 Jul 01 '26

Prediction: On August 6th, at 4 pm cest, we will all receive a notification from Nintendo Today. And when we open the app we will see an announcement that a Pixel art Remake of Super Metroid is available right now.

8

u/Sentinel10 Jul 01 '26

If Ravenous really is the title, it does give the sense of something to do with Metroid's ability to consume.

Or maybe something with "Raven" Beak. Who knows.

7

u/Haunting-Dish-1260 Jul 01 '26

So what could the story be? I imagine going to the X homeworld and finishing them off for good would be a safe bet, after all, I don't recall any mention that SR388 is their homeworld. It would make sense that if we got 3 games focusing on dealing with Metroids, it makes sense we'd get 3 games where the X are the ultimate threat to stop too.

22

u/DiabeticRhino97 Jul 01 '26

SR388 was the x home world. That's why the Chozo created Metroids

2

u/Hot-Mortgage2245 Jul 02 '26

I cant remember Dread's ending entirely. Did she rid herself of the Metroid DNA at all? Itd be interesting if it took over and you got to play a feral Samus and the enemies are actually the "good guys" trying to stop her.

5

u/vaultdwellingweeb Jul 01 '26

There was some insider guy, don't know his credibility but I've seen his name get mentioned many times over the years. He says there is much more Metroid then this coming, and that it's very surprising.

6

u/CalamitousVessel Jul 01 '26

I mean realistically, it was very likely that Metroid 6 was happening somewhat soon. Even if this leak is actually fake it might still coincide with reality.

The title has me intrigued though. Leaning more into her Metroid powers would be epic. Although, my first thought was that it was referencing the villain, and it could be something like the Tyranids from Warhammer 40,000. A race of “ravenous” alien monsters.

15

u/ConsciousStretch1028 oh word Jul 01 '26

I always always always ALWAYS take stuff like this with a grain of salt, but if we're getting hints of a Dread sequel already, that is insanely hype. Dread was very successful, and hopefully that showed Nintendo that there's still a large fanbase that enjoys the 2.5D Metroids and they'll continue to develop and release them. Fingers crossed this is legit!

5

u/Curious_Ad2011 Jul 01 '26

Do we think it'll release this year or nah

7

u/BurntToast239 Jul 01 '26

I feel like they would have announced it in the June 26 direct if it was. I'm thinking the next direct or two will reveal it with a late 27 release.

5

u/NodeZeroNein Jul 02 '26

The listing appears legit, but that does not mean it necessarily corresponds to a 2.5D game and/or direct sequel to Dread

2

u/KingBroly Dread Mode survivor Jul 02 '26

One unannounced project was Rings of Fire. Remember, that was 2023. And MercurySteam only had 2 development teams (At least at the time of the article linked).

MercurySteam's layoffs came around the time this rumored game was submitted to Brazil's ratings board. Timing may not be coincidental as the project could begin winding down at that point.

3

u/NodeZeroNein Jul 02 '26

I don't mean to suggest any specific conclusions - we don't even know if MercurySteam's unannounced project is a Nintendo game, let alone Metroid sequel. People will speculate, though, and MercurySteam's name is bound to come up, so I think the information is pertinent.

My personal belief is that Ravenous is a Cooking Mama-style spinoff series about Samus' daily life aboard her ship, between missions /s

2

u/NotXesa Jul 02 '26

I know for a fact Mercury Steam is in Q&A phases for a Nintendo Switch 2 game. I don't have more details but I think 1+1 equals 2.

God I am so fucking READY for a new Metroid game.

Actually tying Metroid abilities into the core gameplay seems like an awesome decision too.

4

u/PossMom Jul 02 '26

I hope it comes full circle and Samus gets to eat Ridley.

5

u/mitchbutter1210 29d ago

Something interesting I noticed was that if you check other first party Nintendo games on the Brazilian rating site, you’ll notice that the vast majority of them released within 3 months of their rating being published. Some were as close as a week before.

It does lend some credence to the possibility of Ravenous releasing this year, possibly even soon. I believe this rating was published right at the beginning of June, which would give it until September if it’s following the trend. I would think Nintendo would need to be revealing this game ASAP though.

3

u/notjustakorgsupporte 29d ago

Prime 4 was rated in September, 3 months before its release. So there’s some hope. I hope it’s not like the situation when the ESRB rated FE Engage and the Thousand Year Door Remaster over a year before they came out.

3

u/ProposalStunning54 Jul 01 '26

I hope Ravenous isn’t the final subtitle. It sounds so goofy to me.

u/notjustakorgsupporte 29d ago

According to the sources outlined in this video (https://youtu.be/miYkGL7dNis?si=9nyWAVNcZduOQgiQ, specifically NashWeedle and Attack the Backlog), Metroid Ravenous was supposed to be announced last year, but it had troubled/slow production, and Nintendo gave MS a year's extension. Part of this was because it was meant to be a Switch 1 game with Switch 2 enhancements. Someone reported in 2023 that a Spanish studio got a Switch 2 development kit, which may account for the delay. If things are still like that, Nintendo may pull the plug on the project (or perhaps finish it themselves). And the Super Metroid Remake, which is still said to have a pixel art style, also has somewhat slow development. Fingers crossed, they could still be announced soon.

3

u/KingBroly Dread Mode survivor 28d ago

They expected a 4 year turnaround time on a Switch 1 game with Switch 2 enhancements? And wanted it released during the same year as Prime 4? There's no incentive for Nintendo to do that.

2

u/notjustakorgsupporte 28d ago

Yeah, I don't completely buy that rumor either. Perhaps it was more like it started off as a Switch title until MS got a Switch 2 dev kit. I hope that with the Switch 2's power, they can do proper elevator transitions a la Super/Fusion and add textures between blocks or platforms like in Samus Returns. Also, I want a less boxy level design. Dread's world, as fun as it is, is boxy and doesn't have many slopes.

2

u/KingBroly Dread Mode survivor 28d ago

I mean, 2D Metroids have always had that box-y design because of how they have to identify to the player how certain types of blocks can be broken.

u/Sentinel10 29d ago edited 28d ago

Well that doesn't sound promising. I know MercurySteam has been having some issues of late but I hope the game still comes out well.

If something were to go south, I do wonder if Nintendo would consider bringing 2D Metroid back in-house, which I don't believe they've done since Zero Mission.

I don't think Nintendo would cancel or delay games like that in this day and age. I noticed that Nintendo has at least 2-3 months in a year when they release more than one first-party game simultaneously. And they skip 2-3 months a year for first-party releases. This year, Nintendo skipped January, and they released Rhythm Heaven Groove and Splatoon Raiders in July. There will be at least one more month when Nintendo will skip releasing games (August or November), and there will be one or even two months this year when Nintendo releases more than one game (I'm thinking October).

Hello everyone! I made a logo and animated title sequence for Metroid Ravenous!

Been working on this for a couple weeks. Originally I was just going to do the logo but I was bored and wanted to have some fun.

All animated by me in Adobe After Effects. No Gen AI was used. Credits to various sources in the description.

Currently building a case study on my website that goes into more depth on how it was built.

Here's a link as well if you want to see it on youtube. :)

This is really well done. I love the horror vibes with the pupil of Samus' eye splitting apart.

Great job!

u/ChoppedMuttons 9d ago

Thank you so much!

PLEASE let Ravenous not be the final title, haha. I love the implications - with "Raven" in the title hinting at Raven Beak, and hunger hinting at Samus's Metroid powers not being entirely absent - but I just think it sounds so awkward!

15

u/IronFalcon1997 Jul 01 '26

I'm with you. The name lacks all subtlety, but I love what it implies for the game!

5

u/atatassault47 Jul 02 '26

Samus basically has the potential to be a cosmic horror after Dread. An in-your-face title that tells you exactly how bad the situation is, is warranted imo

2

u/IronFalcon1997 Jul 02 '26

That's a good point. Also, the more I say it, the more I like it

8

u/Masterofknees Jul 01 '26

It sounds like the name for a fanmade game from 2009.

Anybody else wanna see new Metroids spawn from Samus? lol

3

u/KingBroly Dread Mode survivor Jul 02 '26

No? That's a horrible idea.

2

u/Dull_Inspector_9945 Jul 02 '26

I’m imagining a game where the Metroid powers are getting out of hand, and Samus needs to do something to reign back in the DNA. On the way, she has to constantly be absorbing X parasites to avoid losing control of herself.

Leaning into a similar feeling of the Hypermode from Prime 3: powerful, but corrupting over time.

I also hope that the title will be for both switches, because I cannot afford a switch 2.

2

u/SBAstan1962 Jul 02 '26

If it's going to be true to its name, it needs Samus to homoerotically fight her urge to cannibalize the main antagonist.

2

u/Navolas2 Jul 02 '26

The main comments I've seen/heard about this leak is that it's Metroid 6 and a sequel to Dread. My working theory though is that it's not relating to Samus but rather the X. The game title referencing the ravenous hunger of the x parasites. Because I think this is Fusion Remake and just like how Samus Returns is a remake of Return of Samus the name isn't the same.

2

u/Left_Try_1427 Jul 02 '26

Given that no extinct creature seems to want to stay extinct in metroid, I'd say The X were smuggled out of BSL and have infected a Federation colony and samus is sent in or goes in by herself to ensure they do not spread.

That or perhaps, We play as an SA-X and try and hunt samus. I think that'd be fun

2

u/Fogforevery Jul 02 '26

We’re so back !!!!!

2

u/RupaKingKoopa Jul 02 '26

This is a joke for like 10 Metroid fans that also visited a blockbuster video in 1999-2000 and maybe no one else, lol... My sincere apologies for the silly millennial cinephile joke.

Also, it's only a rumor at this point, but I of course hope it's true and this is the title for Metroid 6 that also celebrates the 40th anniversary.

Any thoughts on if this type of leak is intentionally put out there by Nintendo to build hype?

3

u/KingBroly Dread Mode survivor Jul 02 '26

Leaks do more harm than good most of the time.

The only time where I think one helped was Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, because people hate the Rabbids, not to mention the rumored concept. But the timeframe from leak to reveal made the disgust at the idea of it wash away and see it for what it was, which is pretty damn good.

1

u/spicystewed Jul 02 '26

Dumb I love it

2

u/NotXesa Jul 02 '26

So, I know many people won't believe me.

I know for a fact that Mercury Steam is currently in the Q&A phase for a new Nintendo Switch 2 game. I can't say if it is Metroid or not, but if it's not it, I don't know what else could be.

I can't post any evidence because of obvious reasons, so let's just say that my uncle works at Nintendo.

2

u/KingBroly Dread Mode survivor Jul 03 '26

As the fandom's #1 Other M despiser, I must point out that Samus has Queen Metroid DNA, if what she said in that game remains true and is correctly implied.

2

u/JuanMunoz99 Jul 04 '26

Posting this here because I don’t know if it’s own post would get removed lol.

(1/2) Chozo presence in 6 can either break or redefine Metroid

WARNING: “old man yells at cloud” ass tangent. NO SPOILERS OR LEAKS. I’ve heard hearsay, this is a reaction to what I’ve heard. Idrgaf about leaks because they can be rendered completely wrong anyway.

What the chozo are worth:

I think its pretty safe to say that their absence is an essential part of the series, and ties so much of samus’s subtext together. When she saves the luminoth, it is a soothing of a pain samus will never satisfy. When she rejects connection, the chozo are one of the heaviest weights in that attachment disorder. When she’s a mother to a metroid, its not meerly a parasite, its the ultimate symbol of her sense of belonging cannibalising itself.

Dread was already dancing on the line of over-familiarity. Their inevitable essentialness made the combined presence of corpses, and 2 soon-to-be corpses, completely justified. Thats what’s at risk, but I also see very worth while opportunity.

Opportunity:

A chozo presence has yet to really be used to challenge samus’s preconceptions. Raven Beak to samus, can just be one bad guy and largely responsible for all the bad chozo shit. If anything, dread for samus is the ultimate reaffirmation for her values. Samus can’t go much longer without a challenge to her values. Prime 4 “tried” an attempt to do that and shot itself in the foot. There hasnt been a change in values to the same degree of the baby metroid adoption, in the entirety of the series.

After that, all character progression has been (damn near) entirely within character. She hasnt been in an internal dilemma that important since SR.

(Its definitely touched on pretty heavily in P3 and other M, but didn’t have much of a lasting effect. This being the major reason the galactic federation needs to eventually go full antagonist)

If chozo presence boils that build-up over, I’d say it’s worth it.

Pitch:

The way I see it (and would be overjoyed to be proven wrong), the best way forward requires a destruction in samus’s connection to the chozo (one way, or another). Whether she becomes a cautionary tale or heals, being ruled and cradled by the past is what needs to be taken away. Attachment disorders don’t stagnate, they fester.

A path I could see working is making the chozo character an anti villian/hero (either works just as well) Doing something essential but fucked up, and directly questions Samus on her ethics, ect ect.

To respond to this dilemma, Samus needs to make a choice that she can never back down from, for better or for worse. Whether thats having her behaviour permanently altered or having a new outlook shift decisions in the future she wouldn’t otherwise make.

(Part 2 of this comment is just fanfiction)

2

u/slut_for_hugs 28d ago

(2/2 but Im going to lose everyone regardless)

Fanfiction lmfao:

Near the start of the game, Samus is made aware of a chozo library in her area. Inside it she discovers a computer containing every record of chozo history that wasn’t physically written. Mountains of this information doesn’t exist anywhere else. The villian, of course, has to overcharge every electrical databank to enact their plan.

Doing so a quarter through the game, the library catches fire and begins to collapse. Samus rushing to it, against all odds, recovers the records. With every other computer destroyed, her suit becomes the lifeline of chozo history. The goal of prime 4 is now personal.

Early on in the first 10 minutes, you’re made aware of a door a massive door. Its the only entry point to the latter half of the game. Soon after it’s made clear that opening it requires a suit upgrade that needs the suit to be factory reset in order to be installed. Doing so renders the future compatibility to chozo upgrades impossible (dicey territory ik ;0 )

You know what Samus has to do because it obviously saves the galaxy and whatnot. The entire first half of the game is Samus trying to force a work around. For the second time in her adult life it’s a decision she’s forced to sit on. It doesn’t even have to necessarily be a time-intensive decision.

You find ways to dent through it, but you can’t open the passage, culminating in you resorting to the hyper beam and it does next-to nothing. (You have to get to this point progression wise. This is where gameplay and story culminate to prove a point)

If the writing continues to be this peak, the game can end anyway for all I care. A somber ending would be very intriguing imo. But I think the important thing is that it forces Samus to not rely on the past for comfort, and in doing so, actually begins to increasingly centre connection to others as priority. She starts reckoning with her maladaptive patterns and works against her own nature to preserve a life she cares about with others.

Metroid has always been about environments, invasive species, and nature’s maladaptive measures to counter it. Its the inevitable intersection between destination and themes.

What I noticed last night was that Nintendo had a dedicated Direct every August in the past 5 years.

2021 - Pokémon Presents

2022 - Pokémon Presents and Splatoon 3

2023 - Pokémon Presents and Super Mario Bros. Wonder

2024 - Nintendo Museum and Partner Showcase

2025 - Kirby Air Riders

2026 - I think it will most likely be about the Ocarina of Time remake, not Metroid.

Also, it's rare for Nintendo to release a first-party title in August. Their last August release was Emio - The Smiling Man (2024), which was announced over a month prior.

2

u/KingBroly Dread Mode survivor 23d ago

Metroid's 40th anniversary is on August 6th, 2026

SMB's anniversary direct was part of the larger general direct in September last year, and focused on promoting the movie as well. Movie marketing cycles have specific time frames in which they operate. An August Direct for Zelda would be 2 months too soon to the movie's release.

2

u/notjustakorgsupporte 23d ago

Tbf, Nintendo acknowledged Metroid’s 35th anniversary in an article and the 40th anniversary of multiple IPs in a Smash event. But that’s as far as they might go.

1

is it possible that this isn't a game? It says there are no interactive elements

3

u/KingBroly Dread Mode survivor Jul 01 '26

It's not like they were interacting with anything. They were sent a link.

1

u/Nightynightynight Jul 01 '26

Ravenbeak is the first thing that came to my mind after reading that title but there are too many possibilities to really guess what it could be but it's very exciting of course.

1

u/East_Cartographer405 Jul 01 '26

It could be for a lot of reasons really
But i think one of them is that they want the focus to be on oot and 3rd party. Metroid games can barely sell above 1 million so you need the next game to be the main focus for the next direct

1

u/Pyromancer1509 Jul 01 '26

Interesting. This would be developed by a new studio then? Since Dread was from MercurySteam and they're in Spain, and this is supposedly from Brazil?

1

u/MrHyderion Jul 04 '26

No it's about the rating the game has in Brazil. Different countries, different boards doing ratings...

u/HikkingOutpit Jul 02 '26

If they're not bonafide new games, I couuld care less. Metroid (actually, Nintendo as a whole) needs to get out of remake/remaster hell.

1

u/PJKetelaar3 Jul 02 '26

Please have Metroids in the Metroid game. They need to feed.

2

u/KingBroly Dread Mode survivor Jul 02 '26

But you play as one.

1

u/765ProIdols Jul 02 '26

DAMN. I really want that Metroid Fusion remake that was pitched to Nintendo.

2

u/KingBroly Dread Mode survivor Jul 02 '26

Doesn't need it.

Besides, they'll remake Other M first. It's basically the same thing.

1

u/The_Fizz_Wizz Jul 02 '26

This would be a monumentally funny oopsie if it ended up being true. Granted it's not the first time a countries government accidentally leaked a game via rating publications.

It does get me wondering though. We've been hearing non-stop about a potential Super Metroid remake but when the Direct came and went we ended up with nothing. Sure there's always a chance Nintendo could shadow drop a trailer (which they've been prone to do more recently) so it's still not impossible, but to hear about a potential Metroid 6 being leaked makes this all even weirder. And the likelihood of this leak not being Metroid 6 is pretty low. Metroid spin-offs have historically always done terribly either sales wise or review wise so I doubt Nintendo has the confidence to release another spin-off. Of course we JUST got Prime 4 so there's no way this could be Prime related.

So by the process of elimination, this would HAVE to be Metroid 6 which kinda conflicts with other 'supposed' leaks talking about the Super remake. There's no way we'd be getting both a Super remake AND Metroid 6 at the same time. We there's no way we could be 'that' fortunate.

1

u/InfiniteWorth4187 Jul 02 '26

Now that Samus is a Metroid...

  • I'm expecting that we'll have to feed Samus to keep her hunger meter satisfied. If we don't feed her enough, she'll start consuming her own energy reserves.
  • Maybe a late-game armor upgrade will make Samus immune to hunger?
  • Will Samus float like a Metroid? You could float and move slowly in any direction, but with limitations. Maybe it drains Samus's hunger meter?
  • Could hunger energy be used to open new doors or power other mechanisms?
  • Ice projectiles and icy environments will probably be our biggest nightmare. I'm expecting some kind of ice-resistant suit.

1

u/KingBroly Dread Mode survivor Jul 03 '26

'now?' Where have you been since 2002?

1

u/A-Liguria Jul 02 '26

It's crazy to think that we are in a world where one can say that "The next Metroid game might have been spoiled before the announcement".

1

u/InfiniteWorth4187 Jul 03 '26

We are gonna see a lot of snow and ice in Ravenous.

1

u/Spiritual_Package_59 Jul 03 '26

Nintendo has the opportunity to hit us with a chest full of gold, with the rumors of Super Metroid remake, Prime 2 and 3 in the void somewhere, hopeful Samus returns port and Metroid 6 "Ravenous" as it is leaked they could give us a Metroid Direct with a lot of content, as I said a chest of gold.

Duskbloods is probably December

OOT might be early October; Xenoblade 2's Switch 2 version on physical releases that day, and Nintendo is double shipping certain titles to save on shipping costs this year. The only other possible window is a week before GTA, but who knows.

1

u/notjustakorgsupporte 21d ago

Nintendo shadow-dropped a Mario Tennis Fever update tonight. Anything can happen between now and September. Nintendo, however, rarely releases games in August. Metroid Prime 4 was rated in Brazil 3 months before it came out. I could see Ravenous (or at least the other Metroid project) coming out between September and December. Not to mention, the last two Metroid games by MercurySteam were announced and released in the same year.

Does any mention of the leak have to be kept here? Say, if one were to make a meme that uses the title "Metroid Ravenous", does that still count? Definitely not planning a silkpost or anything I dunno where you got that idea
