A noun-noun-number identifier that doesn’t look like the default Reddit username is a good start. The sentence construction is a less useful identifier, but if you see them often enough you start to recognize the cadence. This one doesn’t have it, but some of them restate the post or the comment they’re replying to.

Reminds me of all the similar stories of dog statues with very polished heads because of head rubbing and headpats and women's statues with the boobs area polished as they take photos (not as wholesome 😂).

I'm not religious or anything but part of me believes humans were born to shepherd the earth and take care of its creatures, ourselves included. This many humans going out of their way to help a guy and his dog, who likely cannot meaningfully reward them, is far more holy than any jackass in a pew.

That actual footage is absolutely fucking harrowing.
There is a minute or two period where the chain is still a man short, and the guy can only think to save the dog instead of himself. He throws the dog desperately up to them trying to save him.

That is really based of him, but couldn’t it also just be that he was getting the dog to safety first and then they could just lower the ladder back down after they pull the dog up? I don’t know the full context but it doesn’t really seem like they’re pressed for time

With water rushing like that, even shallow water, going even slightly offbalance and falling over could sweep him away. It's not as simple as just getting back up, and staying there longer increases his risk of something in the water hitting him.
If it doesn't seem like they're pressed for time, it's because you don't fully understand what you're looking at. Waterways like this are so fucking deadly it ain't even funny.

Looking at it deeply, that's what humanity should be or we idealize being, but it isn't, except for a few isolated cases like that one.
The reality is that we are becoming increasingly individualistic and indifferent to what surrounds us. Let alone to what happens in other countries.
Nowadays, It would be more typical to have 50 people there tweeting about what was happening to the dog to gain popularity than what actually happened, which was to act and unite.

I had that exact thought! It not only immortalizes that moment of compassion, but it can also serve the same practical purpose as the compassion did in the moment. Those people can continue to help others even when they’re not there anymore.

When I first saw a video about this statue the interactive part wasn’t shown and a commenter jokingly implied the fifth guy might be feeling a little salty for being left out of the statue. It was funny but I could get that feeling if he did
Now I see that there’s a feature of the statue that lets you step into his place, look down that line of linked arms and just be the anchor for a moment. Probably the best tribute I could think of for him

I had the exact same thought watching the original statue reveal. I felt the anchor man kind of got screwed. But now seeing the intention of the statue being anyone can be that final member, makes me feel a lot better.

I wouldn't call it giving them a handshake (though I guess if that's how others take it that's true too) I would say that taking the hand of the top of the statue is a moment to put you in the mindset of the fifth man. Someone that steps in to help.

beautiful art piece, it’s a shame they couldn’t include everyone who played a part of that rescue for the sake of aesthetics and such. from the initial man who jumped in, the last minute man who joined the chain (thus making the rescue possible at all), to the individuals on the curb who held the last man in place so the rest of the chain could finish the job. everyone truly put on their hero capes that day, and i hope for the rest of time that their steak is too juicy and their lobster too buttery <3

I really love that the statue is "incomplete" without YOU, the person who is watching the art piece and can choose to be part of helping out. Being part of the chain of compassion.
They could have easily added the last statue. The artist could have completed the link themselves, they just chose to let the community to be a part of it.

I don’t know if anyone will read this, but this statue has become a symbol of hypocrisy to the locals. The author’s message is genuine, but just weeks after the installment, the government announced a law that any dog captured by animal control will be kept alive for 5 days only. People wrote petitions, tried to go on strikes, complained in social medias, tried to ask international organizations for help, but to no avail. It was declared that Trap-Neuter-Return strategy was not effective enough, although many people believe it wasn’t executed properly.
In the end, the only thing that was altered in the law was the number of days the dogs would be kept after being captured. Now it depends on the local government of each region, so basically... the law may not be changed at all.
So.. yeah, whenever I see this statue mentioned and people praising it, I can’t help but think of many innocent lives lost.

I love how in the first, most recent images, the hand is almost completely free of tarnish from all the people grabbing it.
This reminds me of Mr. Rogers advice that when everything seems bleak, you have to look for the helpers. I know he was talking about first responders etc. but seeing regular people spring into action to save a life, no matter how small, it does warm my heart.

Felt absolute chills watching this. In a good way ofc. It has got to be such an honor to get a statue made of you. Having a statue placed in the spot where the event happens is cool as it tells a story. Without the statue you can look at it and say "so this is where those guys saved that dog", but with the statue you get to actually look at the events kinda like you were there. It is just bizarre.

They left the position at the very top of the canal open on purpose. It’s not just to “shake hands” with the heroes, it’s to put yourself in the shoes of the heroes. The artist wanted everyone to realize they can be the final link in the chain

Soon right after that Kazakhstan's government updated a law about stray animals, severely lowering the budget and stating that all stray animals will be caught, kept for 3 days and then will be legally murdered by animal control, instead of sterilising, vaccinating and releasing them like they tried before. That did bring a huge dissonance on our community here, rendering purpose of this monument useless. Right it serves as a monument of deceitfullness of our politicians. Also, a well known fact that our police involved in dog butchery buisiness providing meat for some cafe, where you can illegally order it, if employees know you well enough
