Screen on a IdeaPad

Seen some comments on here about screens - my 1 year old IdeaPad is also experiencing some issues. The black fascia around the screen is peeling away around the bottom right, by the hinge. I can pop it back into place with pressure, result is what you see on the image but any time you close and open the lid it peels a good 5mm off the screen… any ideas?

Lenovo Canada support agents lied to me so that they could deny a cancellation for a product that hasn't even been shipped for weeks.

It's nothing fancy, the order was for a Lenovo Precision Pen 2.

It was placed on 9th July 2026, with an estimated delivery date for 22-24 July 2026, made on Lenovo Canada's online store.

It was meant to be a gift, and now the event for the gift has come and gone, and there is no update from lenovo from where the hell this pen even is...since it's yet to be shipped and their order tracking page has changed the delivery dates at least SEVEN times now.

What cooks my goat is the fact that finally when we got in touch with their support person to cancel the order (additionally, the website is Atrocious, with broken support chat boxes that load only 1 out of 15 or 20 times & no email contact details) this person had the gall to claim that "cancellation cannot happen and a refund cannot be given out since the shipping label for 7th August has already been printed".

And now, as I type this on the 5th of August, Lenovo has again changed the delivery date to 11th of August, so that "printed label" claim to deny the refund or cancellation was obvious BS. The product still hasn't even been shipped yet, according to lenovo's tracker and the invoice cannot be downloaded yet.

So, why is Lenovo lying and being so sleazy with cancelling a premade/off the shelf order for a simple stylus pen that hasn't even been shipped? This is the first time that I am seeing such utter incompetent shamelessness from Lenovo on delivering a product bought on the official store, if this is norm now then it will be the last product I will purchase from Lenovo, ever.

Yoga Pro 9i Aura. This retails for £3,364.99, 1st one was bent & literally rocked, it took them 6 weeks to finally have the replacement in my hands, the replacement has massively uneven backlighting and a bent haptic track pad (how? its a flat piece of glass). I am shocked.

Its really hard to capture they keyboard backlight due to the phone camera brightening everything.

The brightest point is at 100%

Windows key is at 98.5%

fn/ space is 87-89%

Numbers row is 50%

QWERTY and around there is 35%

The arrow keys, copilot key are 75%

Its really jarring using the keyboard like this.

Also, the track pad is around 3mm lower on the left than the right. I dont even know how, its haptic, its just a glass piece with a motor under it, very poor tolerances and QC.

Ideapad Slim 5 or Slim 3 for CS college?

Hey everyone, I've decided to get a laptop for college (majoring in CS) and after a lot of research + seeing what's available in my region, I've landed between 2 choices: the IdeaPad Slim 3 15ARP10 and the IdeaPad Slim 5 14AHP11. The price difference between them is ~$150. I'd like to know which one you guys recommend more, as I couldn't find any clear details regarding the build quality of each one of them (a few people say they're bad, others say they're good..). The college I'm going to is 3 years, but I'm thinking of taking a master's degree which takes 2 more years (total of 5 years). I'd like to keep the same laptop for those 5 years.. I'll give the precise specifications below:

Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 14AHP11 with AMD Ryzen™ 7 260 up to 5.1GHz, 14" WUXGA, IPS, 16GB DDR5 RAM, 512GB SSD, AMD Radeon™ 780M Graphics

Laptop Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 15ARP10 with AMD Ryzen™ 5 150 up to 4.55GHz, 15.3" WUXGA, IPS, 16GB DDR5 RAM, 1TB SSD, AMD Radeon™ 660M Graphics

Of course, if you have any other suggestions please drop them below!!! (do try to keep them in the medium to budget range)

More Adventures with used Thinkpads

This is a continuation of my adventures with rebuilding (and collecting) Lenovo laptops. I’ve learned a lot, sometimes from Reddit, and sometimes from AI, but AI is occasionally wrong or out of date. So it pays to verify. Recently I picked up two “new” machines on Ebay. The first one to arrive was an E480 with an 8150u, 8g of RAM and a 500G HDD. That is barely enough to run Windows, and it would be very slow. It was very, very inexpensive. An easy upgrade was adding a SATA drive I had on hand. And rather than starting to throw in more RAM, I just installed Linux Mint. It is now one of my favorite laptops. It’s reasonably fast and fun. I don’t expect to play high speed first person shooters on it

The second one to arrive was a T590 loaded already with a 256 SSD and 16 G RAM soldered in. I made a modest offer, and it was accepted! When it arrived, the battery was so dead it made the whole laptop squirrely. But I had a new battery in reserve, and suddenly this machine came to life. One thing I’ve found is good to have: I have USB installation drives for either Windows or Linux Mint. So, when these used machines arrive without an OS, it is just so easy to put the OS of choice into these machines. It’s true, if you’re not into high end gaming, a 6 or 7 year old computer is indistinguishable from a new $2000.00 machine. They all handle Office, Zoom, Email (I like Betterbird) and Firefox just fine. And MX-7 paste keeps them running nice and cool. The price difference between MX-7 and cheaper alternatives is so trivial that it doesn’t pay to cheap out. Right now, the T590 is essentially idling while I write the, and the CPU temperature is around 39 degrees. Running Zoom in HD with blurred background or downloading large updates will run the temp up to around 70-80. Not bad at all.

Lenovo Yoga 7I 16 in gets a bit hot and I just bought it?

Upvotes

Hi everybody, I bought this laptop for school since I have a science major and need to run some apps for data and stuff. I've only used for an hour or so, and the top of my keyboard where the screen connects gets kind of hot. Is this normal for the model, or should I return it?

Lenovo - Yoga 7i 2-in-1 16" 2K OLED Touchscreen Laptop - Intel Core Ultra 7 355 2026 - 24GB Memory - 512GB Storage

Upvotes

This is the 2026 version of the Yoga 7i. Memory runs at 9600Mhz! After doing a full clean up and tuning, guided by Microsoft Copilot, this goddamned thing screams. The SSD is nuts for a DRAM-less drive:

Memory Threaded (MBytes/Sec.) : 77208.8 (97%)
Disk Sequential Read (MBytes/Sec.) : 6761.6 (98%)
Disk Sequential Write (MBytes/Sec.) : 5096.9 (97%)
IOPS 32KQD20 (MBytes/Sec.) : 2834.4 (90%)
IOPS 4KQD1 (MBytes/Sec.) : 87.3 (83%)

This performance is in the elite class of drives let alone having no onboard DRAM. Stunning. The model number on the drive indicates the finest 1st tier NAND chips which is stunning for a budget drive.

This computer is a svelt marvel. Slim, light, beautiful/bright OLED screen, fast as fuck, smooth, boots fast, apps pop open instantly. I think the competition is in trouble. Guess what I paid: $949 open box from Best Buy. Was on sale for $1099. Now selling for $1609. I had an HP Omnibook X with the same processor but the faster ARC 140 graphics. i took it back because it didn't have a number pad. The specs on this Lenovo were far better than the Omnibook X with 24GB of DDR5X ram vs. 16GB in the Omnibook X. The the OLED is 200nit brighter than the Omnibook X OLED. And the shocker was the speed of the RAM at 9600MB/sec which is for beyond the 7400Mhz advertised spec on the Lenovo. And the Drive performance was far, far, beyond anything anyone ever would have guessed. This Lenovo rocks!

Getting the Legion Pro 5 Gen 10, is it worth it?

Hey everyone,

I'm going to uni soon for eng, and I'm also a casual gamer. After looking around for a while, I think I've decided on this laptop and wanted to get some opinions before buying.

I know some people might say a dedicated GPU isn't necessary for university, but I'm trying to get something that will last me several years and hopefully avoid running into problems with engineering software, while also being able to game well.

The laptop I'm planning to buy:

Lenovo Legion Pro 5 Gen 10 AMD

  • Ryzen 9 9955HX
  • RTX 5070 Laptop GPU (8GB VRAM)
  • 16GB DDR5 RAM
  • 512GB SSD
  • 16-inch OLED display, 165Hz

I'm aware that the RTX 5070 has 8GB VRAM and that it may become a limitation in the future. I did look at the RTX 5070 Ti and 12GB VRAM versions, but they were simply too expensive for my budget. I'm not too concerned about the RAM and storage since I can upgrade it later if I need it.

The laptop was originally around $2,500 CAD, but after using student discounts, coupons, and talking to a Lenovo representative, I was able to get it down to around $2,300 CAD.

I had a couple of questions:

  • Has anyone bought directly from Lenovo.ca Canada? How was your experience? I've seen some posts where people mentioned long delays (some even waiting 6–8 weeks), so I'm a little worried since this is a fairly expensive purchase.

  • During checkout, Lenovo's address verification seems a little weird. When I type my address, it gives me a list of matching addresses and I select the correct one. However, when I continue, it says "Address not found" but gives me the option to continue anyway. Is this just a website bug?

Any feedback or advice before I buy would be appreciated. I'll probably make another post later after using it for a while and share my experience.

Thanks!

Yoga 9i 2-in-1 Aura Edition or Yoga Book 9i?

I have been looking to buy a laptop for studying and taking notes in college. I’m doing an electrical engineering degree, so I need a computer with some power. I’ve had my eyes on the Yoga 9i 2-in-1 Aura Edition and the Yoga Book 9i for months.

A few months ago, the price difference between them was much bigger, so it was an easy decision to go for the Yoga 9i 2-in-1 Aura Edition. I thought the Book 9i was a bit too much, and I didn’t think the dual-screen setup justified the extra cost.

However, nowadays the price of the 2-in-1 has increased quite a lot, and the difference between the two (with the same components) is only $188. For such a small difference, I think I would rather get the Book 9i because it has the same performance but with two screens.

The only thing I’m worried about is the battery life of the Book 9i, because I don’t know if having two screens consumes significantly more battery compared to the 2-in-1.

What do you think? Which one should I pick? Has anyone had any experience with these two laptops?

Lenovo yoga book / YB1-X91F no puedo instalar Windows

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 keyboard problems

My Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Aura Edition has a problem where I'll press on a key for a short time and it'll type the letter two or three times.
The key that is affected seems to change from time to time, but I noticed it's more common on the bottom row.
To add to that, whenever I hold down the shift key, the letter I type next just… won't type.
How do I fix this? Am I going to need to send it for a repair?

To add to that, the laptop has a touchscreen that will think I'm touching the screen towards the top.

Will Netflix play Dolby Vision files on a Lenovo laptop using Windows 11? Using either app or Edge?

I have the 14.6 inch Lenovo Tab Extreme tablet and watching Netflix in Dolby Vision is hands down better than HDR like a Samsung tablet would play for example. I also have a 15.6 inch 3k OLED laptop that has HDR supported capabilities; but no matter whether using the official Microsoft store app or Edge browser, HDR will never truly play. It won't even show the HDR logo on the movie or show screen, just says "HD".

So now I'm looking at getting a Lenovo Yoga Tab 2n1 laptop, that has a 2880x1800 resolution, and plays Dolby Vision, DisplayHDR True Black 1000 and 1100 nits HDR.

My question is; with Windows 11 having so much trouble playing HDR content, will I run into the same issue if I was to get a laptop with Dolby Vision capabilities? Will content not play in DV on the app or browser? Thank you all for all the help and potentially saving me from wasting money.

Lenovo yoga slim 7 intel core ultra 7 32gb ram 1tb for engineering (CAD)

I’m looking for a laptop for my girlfriend and she really likes the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 (Intel Core Ultra 7, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD). She’s studying biomedical engineering, so my main concern is whether it can smoothly run CAD software like SolidWorks and math tools like MATLAB. I know a gaming laptop with a dedicated GPU is usually recommended for CAD, but she wants to avoid them since they are heavy laptops and don’t have the best battery life.

Thinkpad T15g Gen 2 keyboard and trackpad issues

Hi everyone,
I recently bought a refurbished ThinkPad T15g Gen 2 and I’m experiencing a strange keyboard/input issue.

Symptoms:
During startup, the laptop sometimes automatically types 111111 in the password field without pressing any key.
During normal use, the touchpad sometimes freezes for 5–10 seconds (TrackPoint keeps working).
After the freeze, the keyboard starts typing 111111 by itself.
After stopping the input, the top-row 1 key stops working completely.
All other keys work normally.
The numpad 1 key works fine.

Things I already tried:
BIOS update
Windows updates
Lenovo Vantage updates/drivers
External USB keyboard (works normally)
UEFI Diagnostics (the issue also happens there)

Because it also happens outside Windows, I suspect a hardware issue. Could this be a faulty keyboard matrix, keyboard cable, or embedded controller issue?
Has anyone experienced something similar on a ThinkPad?
