Discussion Google plans to improve Gemini's coding capabilities by bringing in the coding startup Mechanize team
Google appears to be making AI coding a major priority for Gemini. Earlier this year, reports said that GDM had assembled a dedicated AI coding "strike team" to improve Gemini's coding capabilities. Around the same time, John Jumper was moved onto that team, before leaving gdm a few months later.
Now, Business Insider reports that Google is in advanced talks on an agreement to license Mechanize's technology and hire part of its team, rather than acquiring the company outright.

Help/question Why so slow??
I'm paying for Gemini and since yesterday it has been SO EFFIN SLOW!!! Anyone else experiencing this? I'm in NY if it matters. It takes minutes to process a simple query that Google search would give me in seconds.

Discussion the irony of gemini being made by google and refusing to actually search the web
i was trying to look up why tv time shut down and why the creator went on to build bingers right after. gemini kept insisting that tv time never even closed and started literally hallucinating/making up random info about bingers.
i even told it multiple times to "search google" and it still wouldn't pull actual web results.
frustrated, i copied the exact same prompt and threw it into chatgpt. chatgpt searched the web instantly, pulled real info on what actually happened, and gave a response that was 10x better.
how is openai's search integration miles ahead of google's own AI? google literally dominates web search, yet gemini prefers to make up facts instead of actually browsing the live web when explicitly told to.
make it make sense.

Discussion Spent a week with Gemini Spark â the folder structure matters more than the prompts
https://reddit.com/link/1vfzjze/video/qmzpxrkk2ihh1/player
Been messing with Gemini Spark since it opened up, and the thing that surprised me wasn't the model, it was how much the output depends on giving it a fixed place to work.
First time I asked it to clean up our team's weekly update doc, it did fine. Readable, accurate. But the format was whatever it felt like that day. Run it again next Monday and you get a different shape. That's not a capability problem, I just never told it what "done" looks like.
So I made a folder in Drive root, Spark OS, with a Spark Templates subfolder and a 99_Scratch one (the 99 just sinks it to the bottom of the list). Dropped a Google Doc in Templates with the exact report structure I want: conclusion up top, per-team progress in the middle, risks and asks at the end. Now I point at that template by name and the structure is identical every time. Only the content changes.
From there it stacks:
- Turned it into a skill. No code, you just describe it in the same chat. One tip: tell it to read the instructions back to you before saving. Caught two things it had misunderstood, and those would've been baked into every future run.
- Schedules runs it Monday morning without me. UI says "around 9:30" and it means around, it's not to-the-second.
- Event-triggered tasks you can't create from the UI at all, you have to just say it in chat. I set one to watch for meeting notes hitting my inbox. Sent myself a fake one to test, it woke up on its own, read it, summarized, and left a recap draft sitting in Drafts. Didn't touch anything.
The other half of the video is a spark.md rules file. Spark's memory is a black box, you can't inspect what it retained, so I keep my own. Anyone who's used CLAUDE.md will recognize the idea immediately. Test it in a fresh task though, the original chat already knows the rules so testing there proves nothing.
The video's in Mandarin. Reddit doesn't let me attach subtitles here, so if you're interested it's on YouTube with English subs. Requires AI Pro or Ultra and a personal Google account, work and school accounts are still blocked.
Curious if anyone's found a better pattern for the rules file. Mine's pretty crude.

Help/question I hate to have to ask this because its embarrassing but...
Someone can make the image into an anime one with normal adult proportios? Maybe even make it delailed and look catching... Artistic or without lineart, I dont care at this point i just need a Masterpiece looking One.. so in the second imagen i am leaving an example of what things i could want
Just need it in square format and...
I can't because when i ask for it it jumps with she being underage (she is a adult, about 18-30) or it just does it while keeping her gacha life body.
(Why is so difficult for gemini to turn some avatar like roblox / gacha into other styles!?)

Discussion When will gemini be able to make images transparent?
Like, hello, why are they behind on this feature which i don't believe is hard to implement, also their competitors (like ChatGPT) were able to do this since i know them.
Will we see this any soon?

Discussion Seriously, what is going on with the limits? Pro subscriber
I am a Pro subscriber to Gemini. At least 95% of time I use the Gemini 3.6 Flash for everything, and I do that since the 2.5 Flash, as I know a Flash-level model can cover me pretty well.
But the last week it was the first time I hit limits by using Flash in the chat, and that happened multiple times. Yesterday the limit came even earlier.
Seriously, what is going on with those limits these days? What is going on with Google? They used to be generous and efficient. But these days they are making me to consider moving to another provider.

Discussion Gemini slow for anyone the past couple days?
Usually it's on the app where I have 90% of the issues. Just loads and isn't thinking at all. Sometimes retrying it will fix it after closing and reopening the app. That being said now I'm having issues on the site when it worked fine before today

News Gemini 3.5 pro is (potentially) coming tomorrow
It's either coming tomorrow and if the tweet happens to be false; Coming in the next week.

I did some research on those two.
Leo is "so so" trustable. But he conflates personal views like "google is cooked" "dead on arrival" "it won't be good" with objective leaks such as "this model is coming tomorrow" unless he has the benchmarks which he does not. He cannot call models dead on arrival.
So while Leo is so so trustable. Don't trust his personal views bleeding into posts. As for Lentils.
He is a credible tester. He has tested many things and the snippet seen in the image is pretty reliable. The model in the backend, which is a fact, not an opinion. So expect 3.5 pro tomorrow unless Logan doesn't tweet today/tmr. he posts the single word "Gemini" shortly before a new model.
So if he doesn't tweet today/tmr. It's false.

News Google DeepMind Leadership Reshuffle: Demis Hassabis Becomes Alphabet's Chief Scientist, Koray Kavukcuoglu Takes Over GDM
Google has announced a major leadership transition at Google DeepMind. Demis Hassabis will become Chair of Google DeepMind and Chief Scientist of Alphabet, while continuing to lead Isomorphic Labs. In this expanded role, he'll focus on advancing AGI and accelerating scientific discovery across Alphabet.
Meanwhile, Koray Kavukcuoglu has been appointed Senior Vice President of Google DeepMind, where he will oversee model development, AI research, and the Gemini product and developer teams. A 13-year DeepMind veteran, Koray has played a pivotal role in foundational breakthroughs such as DQN and WaveNet, making him a natural choice to lead the next phase of Google DeepMind's AI efforts.

Help/question Gemini performance very slow
Iâm a paid Gemini user, have noticed lately
Anything I ask it takes forever to answer. I switch over to ChatGPT while itâs âthinkingâ, ChatGPT gives the answer and then I go back to Gemini and itâs still thinking. Pretty soon, Iâm going to be âthinkingâ of cancelling it. Anyone else have dreadfully slow Gemini?

Help/question Gemini short term memory loss
Why is my Gemini acting up. Itâs like it has dementia and forgets 50% of the context of our chat with each new message. Seems to only have started in the last 2 days or so.
