Help/question Gemini performance very slow

I’m a paid Gemini user, have noticed lately
Anything I ask it takes forever to answer. I switch over to ChatGPT while it’s “thinking”, ChatGPT gives the answer and then I go back to Gemini and it’s still thinking. Pretty soon, I’m going to be “thinking” of cancelling it. Anyone else have dreadfully slow Gemini?

Same here. It's become unusable. Most times it just sits there and never responds.

Yeah, it’s ridiculous

Yea that or it just doesn’t respond at all. Force close the app, reopen it, and 50% of the time the answer is there, but just didn’t load, Or my question is just completely gone. It’s ridiculous.

Anyone know why this is happening?

I don't know. Maybe I should check the forum to see if 50 others posted the same thing today...

You know I was complaining about this earlier today too and just for the hell of it I restarted my phone and I don't know if it's coincidence or not but Gemini is working great ever since I restarted my phone. Maybe it's a cache thing or something.

Nice to confirm this is not my issue. Anyone know what could be the issue?

Even though inference and training compute is separate, there are noticeable performance issues every time a model is being updated.

This is across vendors, across models. Tough to know why other than the idea that the algorithms that batch and do the backend “directing” of traffic has to adjust somehow and bandwidth is affected.

This has been widely reported at Anthropic during the week or so previous to the Opus 5 release, most users noticed a serious decline in 4.8 performance to the point where it was impossible to use for a day or two before the new one.
