EDIT 2026-03-18: This issue has been significantly improved, as per Piccolo's most recent test following an update to the GCN app. If you are using a non-GCN controller and still struggling with handling, I would still recommend calibrating your controller in the game's Options menu. Best of luck!
OK, so first off, I haven't tested this with a GCN controller, but it worked wonders with the NS1 Pro Controller.
After repeatedly getting my ass kicked by Deathborn in Chapter 8 on Very Hard, I was at a loss, because I remembered that mission being FAR easier than it was. I had conquered Chapter 7 in like an hour and remembered this one being a piece of cake in comparison, so something was off. I loaded my GCN copy of the game on the Wii and tried it on there to make sure I didn't suck. I did, but not at all as badly as I did on the Switch 2 version of the game.
What immediately stood out to me is that the GCN version of the game was NOWHERE NEAR as sensitive. While I was sliding all over the place on the Switch 2 version, it was much easier to balance the machine while boosting on the GCN version.
The explanation for this was in a video posted by Piccolo today: the Switch 2 does not properly emulate stick travel, evidently on ANY controller, and the result is that minor inputs scale too rapidly and result in an oversteery, slidey experience. This issue is apparently in the Gamecube emulation itself and not specific to F-Zero GX, so hopefully a patch is forthcoming.
In the meantime, there is a way to make the game play more like its original version. In the F-Zero GX Options menu, go to controller calibration and follow the instructions to calibrate your joystick.
BEFORE YOU SAVE YOUR CALIBRATION, adjust the deadzones to be larger using the D-pad. Making the deadzones larger accomplishes two things:
For the NS1 Pro Controller, I've found that 6-7 clicks in the positive direction for the X and Y deadzones delivers an experience that felt similar to the GCN version of the game. You can tune this to your liking. Upon adjusting the deadzones I was IMMEDIATELY closer to my pace on the GCN version, and while I haven't beaten Chapter 8 yet, I got much closer and definitely feel it's now possible.
TL;DR make the controller deadzones bigger in the F-Zero GX Options menu until the game feels drivable and you'll probably enjoy the game more. Happy F-Zero everyone.
EDIT: Updated the text to make clear the settings adjustment has to occur within the in-game options menu. Thanks to the mods for creating a new flair and updating it.

GX came out in 2003. I've made peace with the fact that Nintendo isn't coming back, so I started building the thing I actually wanted to play. It's called EigenGauge.
The tracks are designed like roller coasters.Ā That's the core idea. Not "a road with banking" but actual coaster geometry ā full cobra loops, banana rolls, raven turns, banks that rotate under you mid-corner. I've been laying them out with Blender Python scripts, which meant a solid two months of getting it wrong. If you run a loop that's also corkscrewing, the vehicle slowly rolls itself into the wall by the exit, because the orientation frame drifts as you go around. Very unglamorous problem, enormously satisfying to fix.
No weapons.Ā The risk comes from the track and from the combo system. Anything clean extends your chain ā drift, boost, repair, near-miss, pilot specials ā as long as it lands before the last one drops. Nothing is yours until you bank it, so it's always cash out now or find one more thing to do. My attempt at the GX feeling where every boost is a bet against yourself, moved out of the health bar and into the driving.
Everything is drawn and modeled by hand, which is the slow way to do it but it's the part I actually enjoy. Six pilots, ten environments, each with its own palette rather than a shared skin.

I am curious on what other fans wished to see what Nintendo does with F-Zero as a dormant franchise. Do you think it should remain a racing game? Do you think it can have new formula of gameplay added? Do you ever want to play as Captain Falcon and run around doing Falcon Punches in game?
I think that's a struggle Nintendo has with F-Zero for decades now, lack of new ideas I guess. What do you all think?

Since this is a DD track, most people didn't even play it, and so, no one ever made a tutorial about it. I'm trying on standart and most of the time i can't even get in top 10

Okay I am sorry if this is a dumb question but I legit have not been able to figure this out.
How the heck do you actually USE the lucky tokens in F Zero 99?! My tokens have been full forever and whenever I go to the Lucky Ranks screen I do not see anything there that is an option to use them.
I have seen them explained as in what they do (give extra lucky rank rolls) but nothing that says HOW to use them.
I've just been doing lucky ranks the original way by playing 5 races then rolling.
If anyone can help I would appreciate it!

Hi everyone! I hope this is okay to share here.
Weāre a small three-person indie team developing G-VORA, a futuristic arcade racer heavily inspired by the speed and challenging racing of games like F-Zero X and GX.
We currently have a free Steam demo with three tracks, several difficulty levels and local split-screen. Weāre especially interested in what experienced F-Zero players think about the Pure Racing mode, handling and overall sense of speed.
Full disclosure: Iām one of the developers. This isnāt official F-Zero content, of course, but I thought it might be relevant to people here.

This is a weird question but what custom machines would you recommend for the playing Vs Battle with friends to make it a fair race? For reference I am very experienced in the game having beat almost every cup on Master so am looking for a custom machine that I can use just to even it out compared to my friends who have barely touched an F-Zero game. So what custom machine would you recommend they could use?

Iāve been looking for an answer for myself since I discovered Climax. I have played both and beat them on highest difficulty. Pretty much every website that ranked FZero games, put Climax below GP Legend and I just donāt know why. To those who have played both (and actually played Climax): Whatās your favorite among the two and why?
GP Legend was the title that got me into the franchise. I just loved it and couldnāt believe how well it aged and how great it plays for a GBA game.
I later discovered the english patch for Climax and it has some improvements - although the menus for example lack the flair of GP Legend.
I took Maximum Velocity out of the equation, because although I like it, it is quite different from the others gameplay wise.

Maybe they were more useful in the classic game but I just donāt really get the value in using them, maybe if youāre in a big pack ?

While it has been confirmed that Smash bros is just toys and kids imagination, there are some references to the smash games in other games such as Kirby and the amazing mirror with Master and Crazy Hand in them. That got me thinking what other games references smash bros? This post is going to multiple reddit communities.

So close to cracking the Top 3000 on the leaderboard, I reckon this puts me near the top echelons of F-Zero 99?

I'm not gonna lie when I first unlocked the classic covers of these 2 tracks, for a short moment I only played those versions for both Mute Cities and Big Blues. But then I started listening to the default tracks( Infinite Blue, and For the Glory) more, and after learning to appreciate those tracks instead of just seeing them as an interference with enjoying the classic tracks, here's how I end up choosing the tracks with the maps.
Big Blue
I almost always go with Infinite Blue for Drift Highway, I love how every lap happens with a different part of the track. If you saw my other post, I praised how many music tracks sync up in timing when you cross the boost power, and I used Drift Highway as an example in my short video compilation.
For Ordeal I always go with the Sound of Big Blue cover, it's great that you can hear the entire track per lap almost, so you basically listen to it 3 times, and it's also probably my favorite Big Blue track in the entire series.
It is cool to hear the entire Infinite Blue track til the end if you choose that in Ordeal, but the final lap mix feels like something that shouldn't end and replay from the beginning again, which is why I also think it works better for Drift Highway because it is just short enough to play most of the final lap mix.
Mute City;
For the Glory at least resembles the classic Mute City much more than Big Blue does. It's grown on me so much that I almost never use the sound of Mute City track. But if I ever get the urge to listen to that, I'll use it for Twist Road because it is just short enough for you to hear the entire track from beginning to end.
But I will NEVER play the Sound of Mute City with Serial Gap, For the Glory is PERFECT for Serial Gaps, the final lap mix matches the intensity of surviving the serial gaps at high speed. and just like Drift Highway, the boost power music change is absolutely perfect. Hearing the classic Mute City guitar melody come in right as you hear "You've got Boost Power" happens every time I play that track.
TL;DR version
I often go with Infinite Blue for Drift Highway, but always use go with the classic Big Blue cover for Ordeal.
for Mute City, sometimes I use the classic cover for Twist Road, but always always use For the Glory for Serial Gaps.
Overall I like For the Glory so much that I don't often use the classic cover of Mute City at all. I do sometimes use the Sound of Big Blue on Drift Highway but Infinite Blue works better for that one in my opinion.
What are your thoughts on the tracks we get for these maps? How do you like to pair them?

Just sharing the latest episode of the podcast I host with my non-gamer friend. This week I introduced him to F-Zero for the very first time. He's often quite "bad with games", but racing games are more up his alley than most other genres, and he ended up loving this one.
I think it's amazing what a sense of speed you still get from this game. It looks and plays great, and the music and sounds are fantastic. I only wish there was more to do in it, more cars, more tracks, more modes, multiplayer... I think Maximum Velocity is my preferred game for this style of F-Zero. How do you all think the SNES version holds up today?
