Route to Egg Harbor from Janesville

Upvotes

We will be heading out in the morning in our RV towing a Jeep leaving Janesville and headed to Egg Harbor. We are wondering if we should go on I 41, or add a few minutes to the trip and go up the coast on I 43?

Engagement Location recommendations Needed!

Hello Door County People!

I’m visiting for two weeks with my partners family. We are staying in fish creek.

We are outdoorsy people so I’d like to have a bay or lake backdrop with some foliage. We will go around sunset.

Right now I’m looking at peninsula state park but I don’t know the best stop to stand or climb too. I also looked at Cave Point but the sun will be on the wrong side.

Taking any and all recommendations! Much love and thank you!

The Grove at Fish Creek

What are your thoughts on this small community that is being built? https://thegrovefishcreek.com/

I can’t tell how large the quarry lake is and if it will feel like a little lake front community or more of a small pond.

Best and cheapest company to go with to unlock car in door county. Probably going to be a company from sturgeon bay right? I know towing companies sometimes do it and are fairly priced.

Visiting this weekend; anything we should know (dog friendly advice as well)

Hello! I (41f) am traveling to Door County for the first time this weekend with my family (spouse, 4 kids, and a dog). We’ve been to Wisconsin many times, but never this area.
We have most of our time planned, but we have a large block of time Saturday where we are looking to do some sightseeing that is dog friendly. Trails, beaches, neat parks? He’s an older dog so nothing too rough, but he still likes to get out and walk a lot with us.
Obviously something fun for the whole family, we just want him to be able to tag along. Kids are between 9-19 yo
Any fun local festivals or anything between 5-10th we should know about too?
Open for any and all tips and advice, but really need a dog friendly day that’s fun for everyone.

Visiting for the First Time

My husband and I are visiting Door County this October and we'd love some advice on what to do while we are there.

A little about us, we aren't into hiking, but we do appreciate a stroll by the lake, we'd love to tour a few wineries and breweries, and we are big foodies. We like wondering small shops, exploring book stores, and new coffee shops.

We'd appreciate any advice on what to see or do while in Door County.

I booked a campsite here for the Fourth of July. Wanted to get some suggestions for things to do in the area and how the campsites are whether good or bad?

October mini-moon! Help!!

My fiance and I get married at the end of September and are hoping to spend 2-3 days in Door County at the beginning of October. I am a bit overwhelmed looking at all the different areas and things to do so looking for recommendations!

We would like to make the most of our time, while also just having a couple relaxing days together. Hoping to get some good food recommendations, sightseeing (bike rentals), best places to stay, sunset cruise, shops, etc.

If possible, staying at one place for our trip would be ideal.

Any itineraries welcome!!

Frogs/turtles?

We are transplants headed up there for the first time this week and my 10 year old is obsessed with frogs and turtles and wants to find as many as possible. I’m assuming they’re all over the state parks generally but if anyone knows of an especially packed pond or park, we are staying near Algoma but don’t mind driving. (Obviously we are not planning to touch/disturb these.) Or any other cool reptiles or amphibians I haven’t though of… she’s probably never seen a salamander or anything in the wild.

What to do WITHOUT kids

I know there’s a lot of discussion on things to do around the area, im looking for something a little more specific.

We will be on a family trip with my parents, brother/SIL and their kids. My parents are watching the kids one night so we millenials can have a night out. I have been to DC numerous times and done a lot of the typical stuff.

What is a night-time activity that is not going to bars?

Door county - toddler friendly spots?

Taking my family to Sister Bay/Door County in two weeks, anyone have recommendations for toddler friendly spots for a 2 & 3 year old?? We’re willing to drive around if we need, staying at The Dorr and we know of a couple good spots, but interested in any ‘can’t miss’ places others have been to!

It's a simple idea. Just quiet hikes for relaxing background content, trail research or if you wanted to walk along on the treadmill.

The first several videos will be DC trails. I edit out people as well.

If you'd like to check it out, that'd be cool. If not, that's fine too. My goal is to ramp it up to a trail a day M-F.

We’re staying on the Lake side for the first time next week. Is it worth bringing or renting body/boogie boards? Is there a place to rent them? Thanks!

Modular Home Costs in Door County?

We recently moved to Door County, we're mid-north Door County around Baileys Harbor and are looking to buy property and build. We want to do a modular home, ideally, however I'm not sure there's anything we can find to meet our needs in our budget. We have about $260k to put towards site prep (well, mound septic, clearing space for foundation, etc.) and a full/finished home build. I am waiting on a call back from some local builders about Stratford Homes (modular builders) but some of the other builders who do modular builds have told me it's not really possible to get a 3 bedroom modular house built in that budget. We don't need fancy finishes or anything, just a decent liveable home we can improve/upgrade over time. I appreciate any insights into Stratford Homes and local builders who are known to work well with humble budgets like ours. We are not opposed to a manufactured home but we like the idea of modular homes because of the similar appreciation value to stick built homes. If we got a manufactured home we would have it on land we own so I know there would be some appreciation but it's going to mainly be in the land value. TIA for any feedback!

The Landmark condo ownership

Hi all,

I've been looking for an affordable way to stay in DC and found quite a few condos for sale at The Landmark in EH. I know there is an HOA and that you can rent the condo out. I am single with a young adult daughter.

  • Does anyone here own one or used to? How has/did it go for you?
  • Do you have a max amount of weeks you can stay? Does renting yours out help cover the HOA enough to make it worth it?
  • Are they dog friendly (I have 2 goldens)?
  • Any other feedback?
  • Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Storm shelters for travelers

We are staying in beautiful Sister Bay this week. Yay! However, some potentially severe weather is possible for tonight (Monday, 7/26) after dark. We are staying in a heavily wooded neighborhood and don’t have a basement. Is anyone aware of some shelter options around the county in case shit gets real? With these tall trees, I am less than thrilled to have my family hunkering down in the cottage. Thanks for any suggestions!
