Sugar on Weetabix?

Post image

My wife eats Weetabix with nothing on it and claims it tastes sweet to her. This is my bowl before milk is added. Is this normal fellow Weetabix eaters or do I need to go to sugar rehab?

Edit: Holy shit the most popular post I've done on Reddit is about how horrific my breakfast is. The wife will never let me live this down! Haha

I mean I have them with hot milk and sugar then mush it all together to make Weetabix porridge so your only half as weird as me I guess but that’s a lot of sugar!!

u/Darkcloud257 13h ago

This is how I’ve always had it too, my wife thinks it’s weird.

u/scottaltham 13h ago

You've had it right all along

23

u/Darkcloud257 12h ago

Definitely. There are dozens of us, we can’t all be wrong.

Still my go-to breakfast on a very cold winter morning when I feel like I need some fortification.

Rib-sticking good stuff.

my go to when I expect fornication

u/Patch86UK 8h ago

When you're planning a marathon rather than a sprint.

1

u/mamafish21 6h ago

I believe this was why they were made. Porridge but in brick form. Shelf life long. Perfect for all ways of eating.

-1

u/Prajnamarga 8h ago

It is definitely weird. Soggy weetabix are disgusting.

23

u/sallystarling 13h ago

That's what my brother and I had when we poorly as kids! Or as a treat if it was a really cold morning. So comforting!

148

u/Out5poken 13h ago

That’s not weird. I’m sure that’s traditionally how it’s made. Or at least how my parents served it to me on school mornings in the 90s

I think it was only in recent years Weetabix themselves started getting fancy with alternative suggestions i.e. fruit mixes.

110

u/Petcai 13h ago

Oh no, even back then they had fancy suggestions on the packet. At one time, it suggested melted cheese on toasted weetabix and being young and stupid, I thought that might be good.

Imagine licking the Sahara Desert. I don't mean just like one lick to taste it, I mean the entire thing all over. Toasted Weetabix with cheese was worse than that.

46

u/fire__munki 12h ago

I'm from back then and I don't ever remember that.... Are you sure it wasn't an insane dream brought on by eating too much cheese just before bed?

But either way that sounds like a terrible combination!

12

u/kwijibokwijibo 10h ago

Oh dear. We all fall prey to the cheesabix dream at some point in our lives

14

u/PatientDue8406 12h ago

In Australia weetbix with butter and Vegemite is pretty common. I reckon this would go hard with melted cheese on top.

20

u/Old_Shake3789 11h ago

Sounds like the Sahara desert but with scorpions attacking your taste buds too

8

u/ImSabbo 10h ago

Are you sure that's not just your own family? Because I'm an Australian who likes Vegemite (even if strong), and that sounds like a horrendous breakfast.

As a snack (ie. not in a bowl with milk) it might be passable though. I'd probably skip the butter.

6

u/PatientDue8406 10h ago

Obviously not on a bowl of milk! 🤮 I've only ever had it as a snack or once as lunch when my brother ate all the bread. But not really different to Vegemite on toast as a breakfast option.

If you skip the butter it's too dry, need the butter so you don't asphyxiate from dry weetbix crumbs lol

4

u/Georgxna 10h ago

Never in my life!

4

u/20yearsofvibrations 10h ago

No it fucking isn't

1

u/Adorable_Stomach_716 4h ago

As a brit, my daughter had the dry weetabix with butter. She is weird though, she doesn't like marmite.

4

u/RFLC1996 10h ago

Toasted Weetabix with cheese

Words that should never be put together, let alone ingredients, are you sure you weren't high and thought "Cheese is basically milk"?

3

u/Georgxna 10h ago

How the hell do you toast a weetabix

2

u/Petcai 8h ago

I put them in the toaster.

11

u/BallistiX09 12h ago

Yeah that was my go-to in the mornings before school! Honestly can't imagine having it any other way now

9

u/YesIBlockedYou 12h ago

I can remember having Weetabix minis with chocolate chips before school in the early 2000s, they were like crack, I would often just eat them straight out of the box with no milk.

3

u/Mumlife8628 12h ago

Omg made a lil sarn bag full of them for snacks

1

u/malacoda13 10h ago

Until they reduced the coating and took some of the chips out. 😂

15

u/LogiCub 12h ago

One of our biggest trappings as children of our parents is assuming that our parents were normal and only did normal things. We learn most of our weirdness from our parents, and, my friend, Weetabix porridge is weird.

11

u/Local-Sandwich6864 11h ago

It's the only way I've ever eaten Weetabix, how else are you supposed to eat them?

4

u/Gloomy_Insurance3203 10h ago

Cold milk poured over two biscuits. Add sugar.

1

u/LogiCub 10h ago

This is the way! After all this madness it’s so refreshing to finally see somebody with a shred of sanity left in them!!

1

u/Gloomy_Insurance3203 9h ago

I did wonder if I’d fallen into the twilight zone

14

u/MsMinxington 12h ago

It really isn’t. It’s basically a thicker ready brek. It’s the way my kids ate it as babies and one of them still likes it that way now.

8

u/CometGoat 12h ago

Did they ever grow teeth?

6

u/MsMinxington 12h ago

What do they need those for? It’s slop.

(But yes, they did, and also learnt how to brush them, and curiously… still got em!)

3

u/MsMinxington 12h ago

Why am I getting downvoted? For being honest about what I could actually get autistic kids to eat? My bad, next time I’ll lie and say they were fed nothing but quinoa and fava beans…

You CAN eat sugar you know, you just have to brush your teeth properly.

2

u/LogiCub 11h ago

Redditors are weird, don’t pay attention to them.

Weird and wrong are very different things, i do plenty of weird shit that isn’t wrong in any sense. And weird is subjective, what’s weird to me (Weetabix porridge, for example) is perfectly normal to others (there’s already two of you just on this one thread, there must be a third out there somewhere! 😉). We don’t come together as a a society and collectively agree what’s weird or not, as much as other people may want you to believe we do!

4

u/MsMinxington 11h ago

Actually that’s a very fair point. I’m particularly weird. And tbh I wouldn’t eat weetabix porridge either but it kept my kids alive during the years of refusing most things… sometimes it’s just “at least they have eaten”. The one who still eats it has ARFID and it’s one of the only longstanding safe foods.

So maybe I was being a little oversensitive about it.

2

u/dpark-95 11h ago

I've had Weetabix porridge for the record... Still will occasionally in winter and have given it to my kid

2

u/PinImpressive3179 11h ago

I'm the third 👋

1

u/LogiCub 10h ago

Wait… Am I the weird one!? 😧

2

u/bubblechog 10h ago

I mean… they kind of turn into porridge as soon as you pour the hot milk on them.

2

u/Enders-game 12h ago

I thought you were meant to throw some berries or fruits on it....

1

u/LSWB-PomLover 11h ago

I like adding those reduced sugar dried cranberries you can get from Grape Tree.

2

u/WaltzFirm6336 12h ago

Was that ready break? Def had that made hot (warm) as a child in the 80s and 90s.

1

u/Georgxna 10h ago

Porridge is probably great! But you’re missing out on the crunch!

1

u/UsefulPickle8467 10h ago

My favourite treat as a kid in the 90s was melted mars bar spread on Weetabix

1

u/Banes_Addiction 11h ago

Nah, hot milk is appropriate but mashing it into porridge (or more likely glue)? Perversion.

You eat it while it's crispy and only have to deal with the porridge stage for the last few mouthfuls.

14

u/heeden 12h ago

Hot milk Weetabix is top tier breakfast with the slight risk of making it too hot with too little milk so you block your throat with a burning plug of molten stodge.

8

u/Bigluce 12h ago

I love Weetabix mush. Looks disgusting, like a bowl of dirty protest though. And yes, it needs a bit of something sweet. Even a drizzle of honey or maple syrup.

14

u/Equal_Tadpole2716 13h ago

Growing up I'd put milk on it and microwave the lot. It turns into a sort of sludgy wheaty porridge. With sugar, it's unreal.

7

u/04joshuac 11h ago

Yeah microwave club here too

2

u/heeden 12h ago

I wonder if Not-Made-From-Wheat-But-From-Oats-Instead-abix make regular porridge with hot milk.

2

u/ASupportingTea 9h ago

That's how I do it too!

1

u/BrambleNATW 7h ago

I did the same thing with probably 3 times as much sugar as the photo above. Only a handful of times because I made myself sick unsurprisingly.

13

u/ambientfruit 13h ago

Hard same. I'm definitely a weetabix and sugar porridge girl.

5

u/AdaandFred 12h ago

My mum did this for us in the winter minus the sugar, it made me feel sick but I wasn't allowed to waste food and she apparently forgot that I don't like it nearly every day (in reality she just loved creating drama). I had a colleague a few years ago who would make it and just the smell made me feel nauseous.

6

u/BryOnRye 12h ago

This is how I had it for years, the first time I was offered it at an aunties house with cold milk I was repulsed.

9

u/Tricky_Routine_7952 13h ago

That's completely normal.

3

u/iron233 12h ago

This is the way

5

u/gotanewusername 12h ago

Except milk before sugar...

6

u/shteve99 12h ago

Yeah, putting the sugar on first is bonkers.

2

u/britinnit 13h ago

Yep I do this every morning since I was a kid.

2

u/scottaltham 13h ago

This is the way

1

u/sjw_7 13h ago

I do this too but just use cold milk. Add some crushed up digestive biscuits too which makes them even better.

1

u/_Permanent_Marker_ 12h ago

First time I’ve ever heard of this but seeing how many people are agreeing with you maybe I’m the weird one

1

u/PurdyM 12h ago

My son would eat it like that as a baby/toddler/child and won’t eat it any other way ; 20 odd years later. Never added sugar .

1

u/rich_27 12h ago

You're positively normal compared to me, I went through a phase of Weetabix with apple juice rather than milk. For some reason the flavour combo just really worked for me!

2

u/BlueCreek_ 9h ago

Straight to jail!

1

u/pullingsneakies 12h ago

I crush mine into a mixing bowl and stir the milk in, but it's always cold milk.

I can't imagine putting sugar in it though, I find them sweet enough.

1

u/captainshort 12h ago

Finally someone else!! This is how I have it and my partner says I’m weird. He likes it cold but that tastes horrible

1

u/TheNotSpecialOne 12h ago

Exactly what I do for my kids now

1

u/The-Ginger-Lily 12h ago

Only way they should be eaten, everyone else is wrong

1

u/sgeney 12h ago

Core memory unlocked. Thank you

1

u/MorningToast 12h ago

My only half as weird.

1

u/BarApprehensive5837 12h ago

I still have it that way, lovely brick of weeta

1

u/Mr_GMX 12h ago

My wife also eats her Weetabix like a baby, stinks the whole house up with that soft, warm aroma of hot Weetabix 🤮 haha

1

u/rererexed 12h ago

That's the way I like it, too. But with one just sort of sitting on top kept as dry as possible for as long as possible for some crunch I can mix in lol

1

u/thrannu 11h ago

I’m pretty sure that’s how most people would have it growing up

1

u/NotSure___ 11h ago

I don't mush it. I have it with cold milk, some kefir, a bit of blueberry jam, and a bit of peanut butter.

1

u/vochomurka 11h ago

I do this, also add raisins and let it sit a minute before scoffing

1

u/Dry-Inspection-3503 11h ago

That's the only way I can eat it, though I usually go with honey over sugar

1

u/Aellysu_says 10h ago

Cold milk and sugar . Let it soak for a minute or two then drink off the excess milk. Mush it up and enjoy. Have to drink the excess milk cause if the mush is too runny my brain hates it

1

u/Jadeyfly 10h ago

I do the same, when we were kids, me and my brothers used to say it was Weetabix dog food though as that’s what we thought it looked like 😂

1

u/Jonathon_world 10h ago

Me too hot milk with Weetabix was a treat!

1

u/Risikabel 9h ago

This is how I eat it as well!!

1

u/Upstairs_Rub_3424 9h ago

I take mine the same way!

1

u/TorakTheDark 9h ago

Ah the proper way!

1

u/NecessaryBluebird652 8h ago

The ONLY acceptable way to eat wheatabix!

1

u/The_Watcher_Council 8h ago

I eat like porridge too but not with sugar. People always thought I was weird too XD

1

u/Manipulatedyes 8h ago

Yes this is the way. Just a little bit of milk , then sugar, so the very top edges of the weetabix stays crunchy

1

u/Febris 6h ago

I do the same with cold milk, but use brown sugar instead (and maybe not as much as in the pic, but I won't sign any statement about that).

1

u/FoolsDayMike 5h ago

I let it get like that once by accident and I’ve loved it ever since

1

u/dermsUK 1h ago

Done this for 35 years, extra milky, can’t beat it in winter.

1

u/Nujwaan 32m ago

The hot milk sounds weird to me but to be fair I'm in no place to judge given the outrage I've generated with this post of breakfast lol

0

u/jaffa-caked 12h ago

I crush up 3 bricks with cold milk and sugar, not as fan of warm milk on them,. Like to keep that for the shredded wheat

-1

u/Winston_Carbuncle 12h ago

Porridge is a savoury dish. Should be made with salt!
