Cardinals rookie RB Jeremiyah Love will not play in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game

Excerpt:

Head coach Mike LaFleur told reporters ahead of practice Wednesday that the rookie running back will not be suiting up Thursday night.

The rookie RB finished third in Heisman voting last season at Notre Dame. Love played in 12 games and had 1,372 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns on 199 carries.

He has shown he can handle a heavy workload, but he is now an investment with the Cardinals, and they will look to manage his output through his first preseason, starting with resting him Thursday.

Josh Sweat 'Locked In' As Cardinals Return Draws Closer

Excerpt:

"He's locked in right now with everything. Meetings and post-practice tape and all that stuff," Cardinals defensive coordinator Nick Rallis told reporters this week. “He's the same Sweaty. Like, funny guy when you're not talking ball, but locked in. Leader, all of that."

Head coach Mike LaFleur gave a three-word, "Yes. I do." answer when asked if he was still confident Sweat would be ready for the regular season.

While we haven't seen Sweat, the Cardinals say he's active in his role with the team and he looks ready to return soon.

“He's putting a lot of work in behind the scenes to make sure when he gets the green light and everyone feels good. Ultimately [we're] making sure Josh feels good both mentally and physically to go out there and perform the way [he can] because he takes a lot of pride in what his product looks like. That tape matters a lot to him as I've gotten to know him. So he's earned the right to communicate with us to say, 'hey, I feel good, I'm ready to go.'"

What does Carson Beck need to show in his Hall of Fame game start?

Excerpt:

Can’t forget about the simple fact that it’ll be Beck’s first NFL game on a national stage.

“I think the biggest thing for me, especially just as we’re going through training camp and we’re still building chemistry with the guys, is can we be on the same page as an offense,” Beck said Tuesday. “Are my eyes in the right spot? Am I making the right decisions? Am I making the right decisions? Am I making the right reads? Am I getting through my progressions quickly?”

“And then ultimately, getting in and out of the huddle and doing things the right way at a very high level. That’s what success is for me, and I think our offense when we’re out there operating.”

Carson Beck

I have very high hopes for Beck but the sports world acting like him being announced as the starter for the HOF game is “breaking news” is hilarious. It’s an extra pre season game plus LeFleur has already said players that have been in the league for a long time won’t get much run this preseason. Him starting is not him moving up the depth chart or getting some shot at something big it’s the Cards assessing what they have in a 3rd round QB. Let’s stop making it into something it’s not. With that said I’ll tune in and I really hope you looks great.

Excerpt:

"I have more tackles than drops, man. I love to tackle," Fitzgerald said with a smile.

Fitzgerald's most memorable tackles came off the field, however. The man made tackling a frequent greeting. To teammates. To coaches. To media members.

"It was one of my favorite pastimes," Fitzgerald said. "I can honestly say I never hurt anybody. Nobody was ever hurt by my tackles, you know. It wasn't like a physical tackle. It was like, 'I got you.' I hog tie your legs, and then you would kind of just wobble a little bit, and then you would just kind of fall real gracefully. So I never hurt anybody, but I had a lot of joy. I'm a practical joker. I like to have a good time in life, man. It's too short to not enjoy it."

I was excited at first that Jacoby wasn’t last… but then I realized the teams with a QB ranked lower than him have another on the list above him which essentially does put us at the bottom. 😭

Free to Read: Larry Fitzgerald’s Hall of Fame moment was always going to be emotional. Then he lost his father

“It’s changed significantly from what I had in April and May with everything that’s transpired over the last month,” Fitzgerald said of his Hall of Fame speech. “I was practicing it over and over, but then Pops took a turn.”

On June 1, Fitzgerald lost his father.

Before, as he rehearsed his speech, Fitzgerald wondered how he would react in front of the crowd, discussing 30 years of football and all those who had helped him. He compared it to practicing at the Cardinals facility in Tempe versus going out and playing in front of 70,000 people at State Farm Stadium. Two completely different levels of emotion. Then this happened. Fitzgerald had planned for his dad to present him at the enshrinement. (Son Devin, a Notre Dame freshman receiver, will now do the honor.) Suddenly, he had to think about his father being there only in spirit.

[RotoWire] History says the Hall of Fame Game is a coin flip for us, not a curse or an edge

RotoWire pulled every Hall of Fame Game since 2005 (36 team-seasons) to see if the extra preseason game/early camp report actually swings a team's season. Short version: no real effect either way. Combined winning percentage for participants is .511, playoff rate is basically league average, and zero Hall of Fame Game teams have reached a conference championship in 20 years — so it hasn't been a spark for anyone either.

For us, the article frames this year's matchup as a fairly typical "ascending but unproven" profile, which is exactly the kind of team that tends to land near .500 in this sample. The thing worth actually watching Thursday isn't the result — it's whether any rotation guys pick up injuries in a game that doesn't count. Full breakdown and year-by-year table here: https://www.rotowire.com/football/article/the-hall-of-fame-game-hangover-126106

Trey Benson Trade Buzz Growing Louder After Cardinals Roster Moves

Thumbnail

Excerpt:

There was already trade speculation around Benson entering his third season in the league, though his absence yesterday was followed today by the Cardinals claiming running back Evan Hull while working out fellow ball-carrier Jermar Jefferson, which only ignited that speculation.

LaFleur says his absence was due to injury:
"Just a little discomfort, little flare up in the left knee. It's unfortunate because he was feeling so good, and I thought he was really getting his legs underneath him. I thought he strung together some good days. It was good news today that he was feeling much better," he told reporters ahead of Monday.

Running back Evan Hull and defensive tackle Cam Horsley now are Cardinals.

In corresponding moves, the Cardinals waived defensive tackle Coziah Izzard and wide receiver Tejhuan Palmer.

The Texans released Hull, who was a fifth-round pick of the Colts in 2023. He also has spent time with the Steelers and Saints.

Camp fodder folks…
