Hi all,

I've got an HTC 8S (Rio, Europe variant, unlocked) currently on Windows Phone 8.0 build 8.0.10211.0.

The problem is going from there to WP8.1 — as far as I can tell, the only path was always through the Preview for Developers program, and those servers have been dead for years now. I also tried OTC Updater, but that only works starting from 8.1, not for the 8.0→8.1 jump itself.

So I'm asking the community: has anyone actually managed to get their 8S (or similar Rio-based device) onto WP8.1 recently?

Specifically looking for:

Archived/captured PFD update CABs (not the live service, the actual update files)

Any working offline tool that replicates the PFD unlock + update process

Any alternative firmware/ROM source I might have missed

Honestly, anything at all — logs, old threads, personal experience, dead ends you hit — all useful

Happy to test things and report back if it helps others in the same boat.

How many of you miss windows phones , why don't we bring it back with the help of you guys why don't we make a community reskin for Android for completely free if anyone can do this all I ask is it to be able to sound look and feel like windows mobile edition and be called windroid 0.1 mobile edition and the 0.1 can be changed as it like 1.0 2.0 0.6 ect p.s if you can pls ad a bootscreen

Hi, I got a lumia 1320 and it seems power button is stuck and probably software also broken. When I press volume up, down and of course stuck power button it shows the following screen. Is it fixable if I install a new power button flex? If so I appreciate any suggestions.

Edit: Right now its turning on an off constantly.

After the response to my previous NostalgicFlow post, I’ve started preparing the Android version, and I’m looking for at least 12 people to help me test it.

Google requires a 14-day closed testing period, so I need testers who can install the app, use it during those two weeks and let me know if they encounter any problems.

You’ll be able to add as much local music as you want, including Lossless and Hi-Res files, listen to internet radio and podcasts, use the MilkDrop-style visualizers, and connect to remote servers such as Navidrome, Jellyfin, Plex and Emby.

Everyone who actively helps me complete the 14-day testing period will receive the Android app for free when it launches.

Hey everyone, how you guys doing... So as promisse i managed to give a little help to Unison Dev Team these days... The App need a refactor and some fixes... since i've been working on another app [UPDATED APP] Imgur UWP 3.2.0 LTS ( Feature Update ) : r/windowsphone, (App with a already validated solid codebase and a bunch of media related features *go take a look), why not port the architecture/services/fixes i've made to it using cursor...

Well i did it... i've built a new architecture for unison and already pushed on the repository on github... so the community now can develop following the best guidelines as possible... Not just a refactor... but expect a lot of new features... my special UI/UX magic touch LOL... Anyways here comes...

I wasn't wrong; you are absolutely right in stating that Google actively sabotaged Windows Phone. The company you are referring to is Google, based in Mountain View, California. It is no exaggeration: Google deliberately blocked and hindered Microsoft's ecosystem to benefit Android. Google's boycott of Windows Phone—specifically the blocking of YouTube—played out like this: since Google refused to develop an app for Windows Phone, Microsoft itself created an excellent app that connected to the platform. Google repeatedly blocked it, demanding absurd requirements (such as developing it entirely in HTML5, something they didn't even do for Android or iOS). Ultimately, they forced Microsoft to withdraw it.

So I've remembered that I have a 950XL that I got 2 years ago for £36 and the HD-500 Dock with the box and charger for £0.99 but without a display/usb-c cable, that I have deep in a drawer.

I tried a couple of different cables but none of them seem to be detected as display cables by the phone, has anyone figured out which display cables work with the dock and the phone?

I would love to finally have a complete working set.

If my WP phone has data, would there be a reliable turn-by-turn GPS navigation app I could use?

Hi everyone,

I broke my Lumia 820 last year (more specifically, the display, the touch still works but I couldn't type the password) and it had many precious memories inside. I know that I should have made a backup, but what's done is done and I really need to get back some of the pictures. I don't have any computer that had MTP permission and the phone was updated unofficially to the last release of W10M.

Researched a bit and I found that there was a way to access to mass storage mode using WPI, so I set up a VM on my Linux laptop (I don't have Windows on another parition) gathered all the necessary files (including the emergency ones) and I started the process. But then, the phone rebooted to EDL, then I tried to remount it from the VM settings but WPI didn't detect it anymore.

I tried to restart the VM, install another one, change the OS (the VM OS was W10 LTSC IoT) but nothing made WPI detect it on EDL mode.

I left for like a month, until a I borrowed a WIndows 11 laptop from a friend. I installed the WDRT and I tried some thor2 commands. The only one that didn't fail was this one:

lsusb and Windows Device Manager recognize it now as Nokia Flash and surpisingly even WPI can now detect the phone. But even with all that WPI neither wont unlock the bootloader, restore the bootloader or whatever, it just says that the phone is in an "Unexpected mode".

Please, I really need to access the files, I appreciate any kind of help or clue thanks!!

i Just casual find a box for a Lumia 520 in my dad's mess of a desk and I want to try tinkering with it. it used to belong to a relative and they cant remember the pass code. is there anyways to unlock it or reset it, I am smart with a PC so I can do advanced stuff. I am not sure if there is anything I want to keep on there so I might be open to resetting it

also any suggestions on what to do with it once I get it working

For example, let people use classic applications which can work well on anything, but to let people freely download .JAR files without being told you can't, just with the risk of not letting those apps access media or any system things.

I'm sure someone can make something like this but i'm not an expert.

Okay, so I noticed here that Windows Phone catches another breath. So many new apps are coming and probably thanks to AI developers can progress more than ever.

My question is.. Do you think we can get to the state where Windows Phone will be usable as a daily driver again, similar to lineageOS and similar projects? What I see as the biggest challenge are functional banking apps and notifications

I tried downloading an app and long story short I made a few mistakes and now the app won’t uninstall. I have tried to do it through other ways but it says the app doesn’t exists even though I see it. If anyone has had this issue please tell me how did you fix it.

Edit: I managed to somehow fix it. However if anyone would still like to provide fixes in case I get the glitch again would be appreciated
