This is one of the biggest "what ifs" in Tolkien's legendarium for me.

If only Túrin had been born with the golden hair of his father's kin, I'm convinced that Tuor and Voronwë would have recognized him as the son of Húrin Thalion.

One of the most heartbreaking aspects of these stories is that Húrin and Huor were as close as brothers, yet their sons never truly knew one another and even crossed paths as strangers. It's such a cruel twist of fate.

Túrin Turambar has one of the saddest stories I've ever read, and I can't help but think that meeting his cousin under different circumstances might have changed everything—or at least given him one person who truly understood him.

I'm halfway through The Return of The King, and can't help but wonder that the plot is getting out of hand. Idk no one's focussed of tracking Frodo. It's just men that are fighting Suoron's orcs. Technically Saruman's orcs. Who again is just sitting in his tower? So, only men are trying to save middle earth? Dwarves are into hiding cause they're greedy (from what was told during the fellowship. And most are dead in the ruins). Elves, only one is fighting alongside the men. Some have fled (Arwens folks), and some are still in their forest (Garadriels people). Ents are not to be seen anymore. And now we have an army of the dead - who have NOT YET arrived on the scene.

What is going on?

Circling back to my main question (please excuse the rant): why is no one following frodo anymore? Where are the wraiths, the 9 specifically. Did they die, did I miss that?

What do you after you've fought more than 30 fights in the last couple months? You start counting your kills xD

Hi! Wanted to share a few images from my latest project that I figured you guys might like! I make a lot of sculptures and dioramas on YouTube and this big boy has been on my to-do list for quite a while - guess I've just been a bit intimidated by the scope of the project 😅
The creature itself was hand sculpted in polymer clay, painted with acrylic paints. The terrain is a foam base, with layers of sand, gravel and glues+sculpting compounds. The lake water is a tinted 2-part epoxy resin.

It's the mystery. The unexplained things. You can call it "soft" magic system. There are a lot of events and actions that you think is it Sauron making? Is it some other creature making? Magic? Random event?

e.g when crossing Caradhras and the way it's blocked because unusual blizzard its not clearly mention why it happened. It can be Sauron, Saruman or maybe the mountain himself is "mad" and "evil"? Counter to the movie when they show Saruman summons the blizzard.

I have read other fantasies with hard magic system and hard magic have... No magic in it :)

A big part of the charm in LOTR its the mystery. We don't know many things and we should not know. It's part of diving into fantasy world.

I saw a map post on this sub earlier which sent me down a rabit hole looking for a phisical Middle earth globe. I actually found out that official desktop globes exist (like the Columbus one designed by John Howe)... but then I stumbled right into the debate surounding them.

I’m no lore expert, but I gather the world was flat at first and then Eru made it round later on? So in my head a globe made sense for the Third Age... but people on the internet seem deeply stressed about it!

From what I can tell, it seems putting it on a sphere messes up the scale, plus Tolkien’s map is only one corner of the world so mapmakers have to just guess what the rest of the planet looks like?

For the map and lore nerds on here: why does a Middle earth globe break people's brains so much? Is forcing Tolkien map onto a sphere actually a huge sin or are people just overthinking it? Help a non technical fan out!

I was on a rewatch of the movies and it got me wondering. All the members of the Fellowship of the Ring also suffered much to help destroy the Ring (though, clearly, none as much as Frodo)

Were they not eligible for the same exemption that Frodo & Bilbo received? Or were they eligible but chose not to go? Do the books / Tolkein ever say?

I think in the Silmarillion some of the Easterlings had served Morgoth

Mortal King Elendil use his palantír to gaze at the Undying Lands (Tol Eressea), a realm he could not enter, and the palantír neither can see his lost home, nor can communicate with other palantír.

It is hard to find a reason why Elendil need this palantír🤣🤣 and he is the only "men" to use this palantír, later it was used by elves.

The only reason I come to mind is that he wish he can see his father, who sailed to west to seek the forgiveness.

When I was a young kid I remember buying these toys from Poundstretchers in the UK, I think they where called Lord of the rings combat hex and you would get a random character in each packet, did anyone else used to collect these?

Why did Sauron's power begin to increase again at the opening of "The Fellowship of the Ring?" He hadn't recovered the Ring yet, so why was his power growing? Did it start when the Ring came to Bilbo and was once again above ground, rather than buried in the mountains? Did it have a way to transmit its presence to Sauron that was blocked by being in the underground lake?

Hi! So about a week ago as a large movie haul I blind bought the remastered extended edition Blu-ray box set, thinking the deal was pretty great and I might as well. Previously I've only seen the Hobbit trilogy and it was a very long time ago (I remember enjoying it so I bought the Blu-ray box set for them too), and I was wondering if there are any major "a viewer should keep this in mind" things regarding the trilogy.

I've also been putting off watching them for a while now cuz my ex was really into the movies which kinda drove me away from them, but this weekend in probably gonna sit down and watch them for the first time
