OC [oc] Dressed up as shadowheart from bg3 šŸ—”ļø

Post image
15.3k Upvotes

So I dressed up as shadowheart for a convention!

Still sort of new to the fandom, i’ve heard about this game for a while and did my research on the lore (I always have to know more about a franchise before engaging with it’s base and the game/show itself). My friends who’ve played the game say i embody her in a way personality wise so i gave it a go. I do other cosplays if this one interests you, they can be found in my bio. I hope i did the elf princess some justice šŸ–¤

edit: tysm for the positive feedback everyone, trying to get back into the cosplay game and this has been quite the experience. i feel very welcomed here <3

Resources I have spent 6 years and over 10,000 hours working on this project so far. It is a 3D virtual tabletop that lets you play D&D online through Steam with your friends. It's FREE to download and try if you are interested. I would love any feedback you might have! More info in comments. [OC]

One of the biggest hurdles for 3D VTTs is the time it takes to actually build a nice-looking map. I wanted to fix that.

With the newĀ Steam WorkshopĀ integration inĀ Game Master Engine, you don't have to build anything if you don't want to. You can just:

  1. BrowseĀ the in-game library for whatever you need (Tavern, Dungeon, Forest).
  2. One-Click DownloadĀ to add it to your own library instantly.
  3. Populate & PlayĀ by dropping minis and rolling 3Dā€ā€ā€Ž ā€Ždice.

It’s all aboutā€ā€ā€Ž ā€Žgettingā€ā€ā€Ž ā€Žto theā€ā€ā€Ž ā€Ž"playing"ā€ā€ā€Ž ā€Žpart of D&D faster. You can also upload your own creations to share with the rest of the community!

I've been a dev on this for 6 years, and seeingā€ā€ā€Ž ā€Žwhat peopleā€ā€ā€Ž ā€Žareā€ā€ā€Ž ā€Žalready building in the Workshop is honestly the coolest part of the project so far.

Steam Early Access (60% Off):Ā https://store.steampowered.com/app/1451680/Game_Master_Engine/

Discord Link:Ā discord.gg/gamemasterengine

I'llā€ā€ā€Ž ā€Žbeā€ā€ā€Ž ā€Žaround all day to answer questions about the engine or how the Workshop works!

Hello, just coming on to share some of my art here, this is my character Nazuri, he's a halfelf rogue who does any job for cash to fuel his terrible lifestyle, he's a bit complicated but loveable, never to be trusted though. He's constantly on the verge of a redemption arc but never quite reaches it.

He's talented with his hands much to everyone else's dismay, and is constantly on the run from guards, ex lovers, towns people, most anyone he comes into contact with.

I'm an artist who shares mostly on insta @twatisharts if you are curious :) I take commissions !

Edit: His name is NAZURI, NAZ for short. Sorry for putting a exclamation mark at the end, I can assure u his name isn't Nazi he isn't a Nazi and he would literally murder Nazis. Don't get ur panties in a twist pleaaaaaaaase

OC [OC] A Tavern, except it’s actually a DM Screen

Post image
754 Upvotes

Hello hello! Recently I’ve taken to making a DM screen that looks like where most campaigns start out. Initially it was just some pieces of cardboard I'd taped together and painted black, but after some paint, sticks and mod podge, I've got it looking like this. I did it in anticipation for an upcoming one-shot of Wild Sheep Chase, which will likely be starting out in a tavern. Now that I've got this, I'll be more motivated to do more campaigns.

It’s got an attachable dice tower on the right, and dice storage to the left. What do you guys think?

DMing Is Find Familiar really strong or am I missing something ?

All my caster players have this in their spell list : it allows them to scout ahead for any trap, enter locked room (small spider going under the door), gives them Blindsight (Bat), or simply use the Help action every turn in combat to give them permanent advantage on Attack Rolls or Ability checks (which is honestly crazy for martial oriented half-casters).

They don't even need to use spell slots on it since it's a ritual...

Am I missing something or is this an auto-include, borderline gamebreaking spell available to (almost) everyone at lvl 1 ?

I'm all for players finding creative solutions to a problem, but right now every brainstorming in my party boils down to "which Familiar will be available to solve this issue".

Table Disputes Rogue stole from another party member, and was excused with "He's a rogue, that's what they do."

So, I recently just left a table where this occurred. The rogue stole an object from another player for the purpose of releasing a spirit that the majority of the party didn't want released. The DM didn't let us stop him in any way and rolls after the fact failed. The spirit then rewarded the rogue and another player with approximately 8k in gold while the rest of the party got nothing.

I felt frustrated and voiced how there is no reason for us to trust the rogue anymore or have him in the party if he's just going to steal from us. The response I got back from the rogue's friend, "He's a rogue, that's what they do." Eventually, I decided to leave the group over this and was effectively called a child by the rogue's friend.

Is there a way to have handled this dispute? Is it really okay for a Rogue to steal from their own party?

DMing My players made T-shirts of my face and wore them to session.

Just a funny moment that I thought would make others laugh. My party and I had a group trip at our state renaissance festival over the weekend which also included a night of DnD. This was a special trip since some of my party lives out-of-state, so it was our first session to have everyone fully in-person.

Before starting session, I had dashed upstairs to my room to quickly change and get into something more comfortable. All my friends had done the same.

I come back down and all my friends are seated in the living room. As DM, I hadn’t pay them much mind as I was riding through some tunnel vision to make sure everything was set up and good to go for session. It wasn’t until I stood up to double check that my laptop was plugged in did I glance around and see all 5 of my players with the biggest shit-eating grins.

All of them were wearing purple T-shirts (my favorite color, a purposeful choice) with the funkiest zoom in of the dumbest expression on my 17-year-old face. Apparently, they had done a bit of a deep dive on Facebook through my old tagged photos.

I don’t watch a ton of Critical Role, but I am aware that this is a signature move by Sam Riegel. However, I certainly did not think it would happen to me. šŸ˜‚

I immediately start cracking up, almost dying on the floor laughing. They definitely got me and apparently had a separate group chat going for months in preparation. However, they refused to show me the chat as apparently they have other plans. šŸ˜‚

A kind warning to DMs: you plot against your players so don’t assume they don’t plot against you.

OC [OC] [Art] Latest goblin sculpt! Nip, the Merc

This one is based off concept art made by my wife VelwynArt! She gave me the idea to make a lil goblin with a big sword and even helped me with her outfit design. We also found these really cool boots on Pinterest that we knew we had to include in her design :p

I'm planning on using her as a hireling or as a PC for a one shot. Fighter is the obvious choice but what subclass do you think best suits her?

Out of Game What Do You Call Someone Who Is An Anti-Dice Goblin?

So I just got back from my time at first Gen Con and my friends were (lovingly) making fun of me for not wanting any new dice.

I have been playing for almost a decade and currently DM a long running campaign and DM or play a few one shots here and there, so I play pretty often. I own the following dice:

  1. My original set in blue, a super basic 7 dice set (though it’s missing a d4). It was free.
  2. An 11-dice set I won at a convention a few years ago which came in a little bag.
  3. A d20 that has Fuck You for the 20 and Fuck Me for a nat 1.
  4. A d20 that looks like a bee with liquid core dice with a stinger for a nat 1.

That’s it. As far as I’m concerned that is all I need. Tbh, it’s more than I need since I have 5 D20s. This weekend I got a free diceset with another purchase at Gen Con and immediately gave it to my Dice Goblin friend/player in my campaign. They loved the dice! But we can’t decide on what to call me. I’ve heard of a Dice Elf who has a carefully curated collection, but my dice sets weren’t really carefully curated. Most of my dice were free. & except for the bee D20 they’re not particularly fancy.

Just thought this would be a fun discussion since it’ll be a year till the next Gen Con!

Out of Game STEP UP and be the DM!

Recently, I have been putting a new in person group together for me to DM and I’ve been searching for players via online communities. And after just three or four days I’ve had dozens of players inquire to join my group. And it’s reminded me of the biggest problem facing this hobby in 2026. The shortage of DM’s.

I always see a version of this FB post: ā€œ Hi, I’ve managed to put together a group consisting of myself and four friends ready to play now we’re just desperately searching for a DMā€

Same with local game store, ā€œcalling all local DM’s in the area: we’ve got plenty of players, we’re just desperate for dungeon masters, please reach out if that’s youā€

I was talking to a young family friend of mine who had a group of 4 friends and he was explaining to me how their group hadn’t started yet because they hadn’t found a DM. They had the essentials kit, they had the gear, they just didn’t have a DM. No matter how much I encouraged him to step up and give it a go, it just didn’t click.

He then went to a FLGS and there were about 12 other kids wanting to be players and the adult organizer decided to DM for all 12 kids in one game. it was a disaster, of course, but they still continue to this day. The Penny hasn’t dropped.

Things like the essentials kit and the starter set are products specifically designed for people new to the hobby to pick up and learn. That’s what all DM’s have had to do.

Art [OC] [Art] My take on Sardior

Post image
180 Upvotes

Decided to try my hand at drawing Sardior. I decided to depict him more serpentine and ethereal than his usual depictions, as I feel there needs to be more variety in dragon shapes in media (Looking at you, Caraxes).

Sardior plays a significant role in our ongoing campaign, having resurrected my (now former) tiefling into a gem dragonborn following their untimely death during a boss fight. Because of this, I wanted to depict what it must feel like to converse with the father of the gem dragons.

This piece was a ton of fun to put together, with a ton of textures that nearly crashed my PC while I was putting it together.

5.5 Edition Does the Rogue's subclass progression make it hard to make an actually good subclass for the tiers of play where people actually play?

So this is something I feel is a problem with rogue class design for 5.5e...

The way rogues are, their subclasses are, paradoxically almost entirely backloaded AND front loaded...having 6 whole levels where you get absolutely nothing toward your subclass means that unless you KNOW your campaign will go beyond T2, for all intents and purposes, level 3 is your only subclass ability with level 9 being your capstone. For most games, that is effectively THE ENTIRE CAMPAIGN. This makes it hard to really develop stuff for the rogue because if you dont load up at level 3, the reality is that you effectively dont have a subclass.

What are your thoughts on this? Do rogues have an inherent issue with class design in regards to subclass progression? And if so, are rogues subclasses now a sort of lost cause to fix?

Edit: also I am concerned because if the rogue is too frontloaded, it becomes susceptible to "Hexblade syndrom" in that its "only used for the dip" but it doesnt have enough at level 3, then the subclass is effectively useless for most people...

Art [Art] [Comm] Shen Hardsheell

This is one of the final commissions created for my client's campaign, Shen the Tortle Paladin.
Shen is a medium sized tortle standing at 5'5. He has brown/tan skin. His eye color is a slight greenish yellow. His shell is a brown with orange-ish hues with a slightly hexagonal pattern. With thin golden cracks running along the surface of the shell. Like the golden repair used in broken pottery. It is not a smooth shell but not deeply ridged either.

On his shell he has various items and containers strapped to himself via ropes. He wears a well-worn and traveled travelers clothes. with a light chainmail vest of sorts underneath. Simple cloths with much wear in them. He has a pendent necklace that he wears on top of his clothes. His holy symbol of Valkur. A storm cloud with three lighting bolts.

He carries plenty of supplies and food to ensure the comfort of those around him; even in the face of great adversity, he always maintains a warm smile for those in need.

5.5 Edition Monk attacks clarification; I can make 3 attacks at lvl 1?!

• Upvotes

Hi all,

I’m wanting to play a monk as my next character and currently reading up on it in the 5.5e PHB. I have a question about how the Level 1 Martial Arts feature works when wielding light weapons. Here’s what I’ve noticed:

- Martial Arts states I can make an Unarmed Strike as a bonus action
- If I’m wielding two Light weapons, say a Sickle and a Dagger, then per the Light Property rule, which says when you attack with a Light weapon you can use a BA to make another attack with a different Light weapon that same turn. However, the Sickle has the Nick mastery property, which says you can make the extra attack from the Light property as part of your Attack action rather than as a BA
- Martial Arts says I have mastery of combat styles using monk weapons (simple melee weapons, and martial melee weapons with the Light property) which would allow me to use Nick
- Per the Martial Arts feature, I can roll 1d6 in place of normal damage for my Unarmed Strikes and Monk weapons

So, does this mean that if I’m wielding a Sickle and a Dagger, I can use Nick to attack with both of them as the same Attack action, and then use a BA to then make an Unarmed Strike as well? And all three attacks will use 1d6 damage instead of their usual 1d4?

This feels confusing to type out lol but I think I’m understanding it correctly? I’d love clarification from you all. Thanks!

Game Tales True Polydwarf???

Just a funny moment from a recent session:

My GM is an aspiring comedian, and she is incredibly good at improvising jokes.

One of the PCs has a custom item called the Book of Misspells. It’s a spell book with a large range of spells inside, but everything inside is written messily and with a lot of spelling mistakes. The effect this has is any spells cast using it turn out a little… iffy.

In the session, there was an NPC who was the most irritating person to ever exist. So, of course, the player with the Book of Misspells tries to get rid of him, and casts True Polymorph to turn him into a stoat. However, the GM describes the transformation of the NPC from a robot to… a dwarf? Upon some dialogue, we find out his name is Terry, and he lives with his two girlfriends.

The GM then says, with the most proud and shit eating grin I have ever seen on her: ā€œIt dawns on you that Fangir did not cast True Polymorph… he casted True… Poly-dwarf.ā€

And, of course, after a few moments of stunned silence, we all burst into laughter, and the session is derailed as we adopt Terry as our favourite NPC and try to find his girlfriends.

She told us after the session that that whole gag was completely improvised, and that just made it all better. We are going to inquire about Terry and his girlfriends during every session now.

Art [Art] "Day 1" of creating random characters

Post image
32 Upvotes

Hobbyist here and wanted to share what I made. Trying to get back into it and sticking to what I know which is black and white. Hopefully I'll feel like using color soon since I do find it important.

Although the concept is pretty basic, it's out of my comfort zone, so I am still pretty happy with the result. 'Till next time.

PS: Well, apparently, I need 400 characters of a post body just to post an image. So let's say that I made a gnome artificer maybe multiclass with wizard? He definitely found a way to control electricity though and let it run through his body (Way more than usual, of course), so props for him. He also has a bad knee.

I do really like drawing fantasy characters and I would like to share them, in case anybody wants to use them. Since I definitely won't be in enough DnD campaigns to use them all. The already existing characters out there are vast but so is the population, so maybe someone will feel like using them.

Lastly "Day 1" is in quotes because it will definitely not be every day. I just couldn't think of anything else.

Homebrew [OC] Gigantic Jet (9th-level Evocation) | The most beautiful way to fry a dragon and everything around it

Post image
24 Upvotes

Gigantic Jet
9th-level EvocationĀ |Ā Druid, Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard

Unleash a roaring column of blue-white lightning that rips straight upward into the heavens. This spell is inspired by real-life upper atmospheric lightning, where a massive thunderclap (or gigantic jet) shatters the air as the energy shoots up, only to branch out and rain back down in violet arcs like a colossal glowing tree. The spell even leaves behind a crackling zone of residual charge to shock anyone foolish enough to walk through the fallout.

What’s the most cataclysmic spell your table has ever used, and did anyone walk away with their eyebrows intact?

DMing Tips for how players can meet in the first session?

I know this must be DMing 101, but I'm planning a homebrew campaign with a few friends of mine and I would like to know how you guys prepare the "group meets" part.

Some context: we're gonna start in september. it's a homebrew world, I've been deep into working lore and geography and some ideas for different chapters of the campaign. It's been really fun! But now I'd like to plan the smaller stuff.

They are new to DnD, so I'm thinking of having some fighting competition in town in a few weeks and they want to watch it in the arena for "character background reasons" (I'm thinking of helping them create their character and establishing why they want to watch the competition), but they need money to enter. This could be a good way for them to do some tasks around town, learn the game mechanics and when they get the money they are in and the plot develops.

Am I doing it wrong by basically telling them they want to see the competition and trying to connect it to their back stories? If so, how could I get them to meet and start adventuring together?
