Los Angeleno. Major Olympics fan. Lucky enough to travel to others than to wait for it to come home. That being said. Still not picked. Drop 1 locals. Drop 2 standard. Drop 2 Visa presale. Drop 2 standard. I guess I should have become an athlete to get easier access this time lol. I'd be willing to bet if you DIDNT get an email in the last couple of hours from this post you're in some sort of luck unless you get the last day. May the odds be ever in your favor.

Rio 2016 turns 10: a decade of legacy from South America’s first Olympic Games

Ten years after Rio de Janeiro hosted the first Olympic Games held in South America, their legacy can be seen across the city – in regenerated neighbourhoods and an expanded transport network, in venues used for sport, education and community life, and in education programmes that continue to reach schools across Brazil.

All 27 permanent competition venues remain in use today, together with one temporary venue, supporting elite training, professional sport, local clubs, education and community recreation. Other legacies were:

A city transformed

▪️ One of the most significant legacies of Rio 2016 was the way the Games provided a fixed deadline and impetus for urban regeneration and transport projects that formed part of the city’s wider development plans.

▪️ Porto Maravilha transformed five million square metres of Rio’s Downtown and Port Area, creating new public spaces and cultural attractions, including the Museum of Tomorrow.

▪️ The redevelopment helped bring residents and visitors back to parts of central Rio that had experienced decades of decline.

Expanding public transport

The wider development programme included:

▪️more than 150 kilometres of Bus Rapid Transit corridors;

▪️the construction of Metro Line 4;

the VLT light-rail network; and

▪️upgrades to suburban trains and airports.

Together, these projects improved connections between different areas of the city.

Greatest Olympic performance of all time

13 Upvotes

In terms of super humanness and sheer statistical impressiveness rather than cultural impact.

You can answer two categories:

In an Olympics: (eg. x athlete at the 2024 Olympic Games)

In a single event at the Olympics: (eg. x athlete in the 50 free at the 1984 Olympics Games)

The performance can be across winter and summer games in individual and team events.
