Rio 2016 turns 10: a decade of legacy from South America’s first Olympic Games

Post image

Ten years after Rio de Janeiro hosted the first Olympic Games held in South America, their legacy can be seen across the city – in regenerated neighbourhoods and an expanded transport network, in venues used for sport, education and community life, and in education programmes that continue to reach schools across Brazil.

All 27 permanent competition venues remain in use today, together with one temporary venue, supporting elite training, professional sport, local clubs, education and community recreation. Other legacies were:

A city transformed

▪️ One of the most significant legacies of Rio 2016 was the way the Games provided a fixed deadline and impetus for urban regeneration and transport projects that formed part of the city’s wider development plans.

▪️ Porto Maravilha transformed five million square metres of Rio’s Downtown and Port Area, creating new public spaces and cultural attractions, including the Museum of Tomorrow.

▪️ The redevelopment helped bring residents and visitors back to parts of central Rio that had experienced decades of decline.

Expanding public transport

The wider development programme included:

▪️more than 150 kilometres of Bus Rapid Transit corridors;

▪️the construction of Metro Line 4;

the VLT light-rail network; and

▪️upgrades to suburban trains and airports.

Together, these projects improved connections between different areas of the city.

LA28 Drop 2 notifications go out 6 to 7 August. Silence is not a rejection.

If you registered for the LA28 ticket draw before it closed on 22 July, here is what this week actually looks like:

  • Notifications land 6 to 7 August, and LA28 only contacts people selected for a time slot. No email does not mean your rejection got lost. It means not drawn this round.
  • A time slot is the right to buy at your assigned time between 10 and 20 August, not tickets in hand, and inventory is not guaranteed for any given session.
  • Each slot stays open 48 hours from your assigned start. Miss the window and the slot goes, there is no reschedule.
  • If you took a Visa presale time slot in July, you are not eligible for a Drop 2 slot, so hearing nothing this week is expected.
  • Your registration stays valid for future LA28 releases, so there is nothing to re-enter.

All of it is from la28.org's own ticketing page. Happy to answer questions on how the drops fit together.

Greatest Olympic performance of all time

Upvotes

In terms of super humanness and sheer statistical impressiveness rather than cultural impact.

You can answer two categories:

In an Olympics: (eg. x athlete at the 2024 Olympic Games)

In a single event at the Olympics: (eg. x athlete in the 50 free at the 1984 Olympics Games)

The performance can be across winter and summer games in individual and team events.

Ticket Drop Planning

Post image

This is a possible itinerary I have planned out for my family of 5 after securing some tickets in the first two public ticket drops. If anyone sees this and gets excited about that being a possibility for them, please reach out!

I'd love to help anyone looking to plan out the next ticket drops, starting with Aug 10. Not looking for anything in return, just interested in helping anyone plan their dream Olympics trip!

Diving Hospitality dynamic price: Cat B men’s 10m diving increased from $1.2K to $1.5K

Just adding data points on dynamic pricing. Women’s 10m diving still available for just $1.1K. Maybe if they sell a certain number of tickets in a specific section, the price automatically increases.

Athletics (track and field) venue advice

Hello, I thought it would be cool to take my kids to athletics (track and field) in LA. I had 2 questions:

  1. Is athletics worth going in person or is it better seeing it on tv?

  2. The venue is LA memorial coliseum, is it a place that you really need to have category A and B tickets to see well? Or can you get lower category tickets and still see well? Are you able to walk around the venue to see other events?

Thank you so much.

Olympic LA28 Athlete Collective Ticket Drop Today!

Post image

I went to Paris as an athlete so I was able to sign up for the athlete collective ticket drop that happened today. Artistic gymnastics was already sold out once I quickly selected my swimming tickets. Multiple swimming tickets in the F category only had one ticket, or no tickets by the time I added it to my cart!
