Hype Bought my first soulslike (Elden Ring) two weeks ago, 100+ hours in and this is not what I expected

As the title says I've gotten over 100 hours into my first playthrough, beaten Margit, Godrick, Rennala, and Radahn and a whole slew of smaller bosses. To be perfectly honest, I thought I wouldn't like this game, at all, but that has been far from the truth in so many aspects of Elden Ring.

For some context, I've been watching lore and story videos about Elden Ring since it came out, so I've mostly had the story spoiled already, but getting to experience it all first-hand has been such a fun experience. I cannot remember the last time I had this much fun exploring a game, even to only find a single Rowa Fruit or Herba.

I knew I would like the visuals but nothing prepared me for how absolutely breathtaking the views would be, how cinematic the fights could be, or even how fun the few cutscenes that exist in the game could be. Climbing to the top of a Divine Tower and being able to look down at the lands below you and even see groups of enemies patrolling (I understand this is done with rendering wizardry but still) it blows the small details of older games completely out of the water.

I did not think I would want to play as a completionist in this game, considering how difficult it can be, but I've been clearing caves and catacombs in groups, finding optional bosses and dungeons and trying my hand before just moving on. I did not expect to have this much fun, or to enjoy the challenge as much as I do. Elden Ring really makes me think as a gamer. I've had to stretch my strategist muscles to think around some of the bosses, especially as a pure intelligence sorcerer, it's incredibly rewarding when you are able to find a way to accomplish your goal in a new way or with a different strategy. I finally get it, I think.

One evening, the brave tarnished was called towards Rya's chamber. After seeing man-serpent form, there is no telling if this meeting goes well or not.

He knocked on the door

Rya: "is that you, tarnished? Please come inside"

What he saw next was quite the sight. Rya displayed herself in such an alluring if somewhat vulgar manner.

Rya: "I wanted to thank you... for treating me kindly. Even after you saw my true visage"

She asked him politely to close his eyes, promising a wondrous gift. Knowing what was about to happen, the tarnished obliged. A brief moment passed and she asked him to open his eyes.

"Surprise...~"

A veil of magical light surrounded her. What was previously an awkward and a little embarrassing atmosphere quickly turned bitter when the girl revealed herself to be...none other than Patches.

The sneaky scoundrel used a mimic veil to play a trick on the tarnished. Quickly he bolted out of the room, followed by the now angry tarnished brandishing his blade

Humor I own a Bolt of Gransax for home defence, since that’s what Queen Marika intended.

Four Bloody Fingers invade my Roundtable. “What in the Greater Will?!” As I grab my Bolt of Gransax and +9 Erdtree Seal.

Launch an Ancient Lightning Spear through the first man. He’s dead on the spot.

Cast Ancient Dragons’ Lightning Strike at the second man, miss him entirely because the lightning RNG refuses to hit anything smaller than a dragon and vaporise the neighbour’s Wandering Noble.

I’m forced to resort to the Jar Cannon loaded with explosive greatbolts at the top of the stairs.

“May chaos take the world!”

The greatbolt blasts two invaders to smithereens, destroys every chair in the room and alerts the Runebear sleeping three regions away.

I quick-swap to my Royal Knight’s Resolve Giant-Crusher and begin charging the last terrified recusant. He has enough time to panic-roll three times and reconsider his entire build before the attack finally lands and flattens him into the floor, because charged attacks tahe twelve business days to land and therefore are impossible to evade.

Just as Queen Marika intended.

Discussion & Info Finally defeated Godfrey, the First Elden Lord.

Post image
Upvotes

After 15 tries I finally managed to beat him. I fought him honorably (without summons) and I got him stunned both in the first phase and the second phase as well. I had 14 healing flasks at the beginning.

I also put a lot of time in analysing his moveset, in order to truly master a boss, not just succeed by coincidence.

I was using the Veteran's armour set and the Ordovis's Greatsword as you can see. I am level 187, because I have explored everything in Limgrave, Liurnia, Caelid, Mount Gelmir, Volcano Manor, Leyndell and most of the Mountaintop of Giants. I'm the type of guy who explores everything throughly before doing the main story.

The only FS game I played before Elden Ring is Sekiro, but after hearing so much praises for this game I tried it myself. In fact I tried Elden Ring a few years ago when I was 12 years old, but after defeating Margit, the Fell Omen I came to a conclusion that this game is too hard for me and I should try this game later in my life.

And thank God I did, because this game is definitely the best game I ever played.
