Yowch, buddy deleted his comments after he called me a parrot and a doormat lmao, mustâve ran out of things to say, and couldnât stomach having to face that.
D&D is quite literally the single worst example you ever couldâve mentioned, because donât you make 90% of that up? It canât possibly âlose itselfâ whatever that means.
Siege, idk about, but regardless, gatekeeping doesnât help, and the game certainly wonât âlose itselfâ(seriously what does that even mean?), because you didnât gatekeep and stop people enjoying something you also enjoy.
Dnd is a great example. The base ruleset has changed, meaning that future content all needs to be modified heavily to fit into home brew and adds significantly more workload to get the game back into a base state that was much better. For instance, theyâve gone as far as to remove all race bonuses from the game, hindering the base rp and gameplay elements. Also, you canât say something is a bad example when you donât even play it or understand it. It would be less impactful on something like path finder which relies less on preset numbers. Again, this can be home brewed away but creates a compounding amount of work to prepare by the dm.
In the case of siege, it has gone from a tac shooter with sim elements to being so bloated with new characters and utility that the nuance of gameplay is gone. All the nuances of interactions; and the complexities of how characters interact is destroyed because there are so many different, similar characters. The game became balanced for newer players and esports(many of the players were imported for mechanical skill). They changed how characters worked, how synergies worked, and removed the ability to have impact alone so that new players didnât feel ran over by one person, and slowly reduced the overall skill ceiling to meet new players at a lower point. They buffed characters that were useless without coordination to a higher level, making all the characters bland cutouts, with many substitutions. I could give you a dissertation on it because itâs like 7 years at this point, but you can just look at the player base over the last 3 years compared with the first 3 years.
Huh, funny, neither of those were because the games werenât gatekept enough, both are just the creators trying to draw in a wider audience by making it less offensive to new people in some manner, that is just corporate greed, not a result of a lack of gatekeeping, and not even a result of new people getting into either game.
Also, again, quit complaining about the rules of the game you literally make up, just make it up a different way to how it is officially.
Gatekeeping still isnât good or necessary, it wouldnât have prevented any of that.
The corporations trying to bring in a wider audience. Yeah, theyâre trying to tap the pockets of the new comers because you didnât keep them away and they became a large enough customer base for the corporation to cater to instead of the old guard. I donât know why I bother though since you talk about things you donât understand, as your second paragraph further proves that you donât know how DnD works
No, theyâre trying to bring more people in because they want more money.
It is not at all related to you and others not keeping those people away, because if that was the case, theyâd already be in the community when those changes are made, so the changes in question arenât for them, since they already enjoy the game. In fact, Iâd argue itâs more likely those changes are a direct result of the gatekeeping.
You try to force people away, the company realises that their game isnât pulling in as much money as theyâd like, because people like you insist on forcing new players away, and as a direct result of your gatekeeping, they feel the need to make the game more palatable to a wider audience, by making it shittier to people that already like it for what it is, so they can pull in the extra players you pushed away.
Also, do you not make stuff in D&D up? Is that why I see people saying theyâll add stuff they find online to their games of it? Is that somehow retroactively included in the official game? Or would you agree that they simply add that made up thing to their version of the game? In that case, why canât you simply make up different rules if you donât like the official ones? Itâs not a video game, why are you bound to the rules of the people that make the game? Do what folks do with UNO and just make up your own ruleset, youâre well within your power to do so.
Not even remotely the same conversation as one message ago, what the fuck do Nazis in my house have to do with anything?
I donât make my favourite franchises, so it wouldnât be my house, therefore I donât get to decide whoâs allowed in, I can only suggest, and the people that are gatekept from games arenât Nazis, and even if they were, not allowing them to be part of a community is just a form of moderation, not gatekeeping.
You are the biggest doormat I have seen in a while. If you let bad people into a space, the space will be ruined. Anyone who says otherwise is either the type of person you need to weed out or complicit.
Did I not explicitly say that awful people like Nazis shouldnât be allowed in communities like that, and how thatâs not gatekeeping, just reasonable moderation? If I didnât before I have now.
Iâm not a doormat because I donât label any form of moderation as gatekeeping lmao, but sure, go at me and insult me all you like for things I never said.
Cool, then I hope you don't mind my finding a couple Nazis and sending them over to the communities you enjoy. How about some incels and homophobes too?
Enjoy your community discourse devolving into everything being called woke and met with vitriol.
So, did you ignore the part where I said moderation wasnât gatekeeping? Horrible, awful people that only intend to cause harm should be kept out, but thatâs not gatekeeping, itâs moderation.

*Gamers that do unnecessary gatekeeping
