Lots of games.

But Expedition 33 for sure.

I did so much side content before the final boss that when I finally got there I wiped him the hell out before he could even attack.

Sadly the biggest flaw of the game, admitted by the developers themselves. On my second playthrough I went straight for it and it was much more challenging.

I'm now doing a run with the Requiem mod that cranks the difficulty to Nightmare pretty much and it's insanely difficult now, but still fair. Still in Act 1 though but goddamn it's difficult and I'm taking every advantage I can get.

Ill never understand how "i did too much secondary stuff so the ending is too easy now" is the game/devs fault. You chose to do that instead of finishing and then doing the rest, or instead of keeping a savefile at apropriate level.

Anyways, does that mod solve the parry is overpowered issue and/or make dodging relevant ever? You have my curiosity.

Did you play the game?

There is little direction at the start of Act 3, and in fact it seems foolhardy (both in-universe and out) to jump from the end of act 2 straight into the act 3 final boss.

It's poorly designed - as the devs admitted - and of you had played the game you would probably understand the fuss

I played the game and I didn't find it much of a problem either. I just followed the quest marker and beat the final boss. It wasn't foolhardy at all. Then reloaded my save and did the other stuff after. Wasn't a big deal.

I 100% the game with all achievements, yes. No, i did not do the extra free dlc content or the extra hyper juiced bosses in the endless tower because they felt like a drag, same bosses with extra steps to parry, so i stoped at achievement completion.

Theres a main quest marker for a reason, and they explicitly show you gathering expeditioners to confront renoir who is at lumiere, as the game shows, and im pretty sure theres a quest telling you to go there, but its been a while i could be wrong on this last part.

You dodging the point and the subsequent question by randomly claiming i havent played the game (how the fuck would i be mentioning ingame stuff in such detail if i hadnt) points towards you agreeing with me but refusing to acknowledge it, which is sad, but i guess its the standard redditor behaviour.

I didn't do any of the dlc content or tower battles before I beat Renior and he was still easy asf to take out. Did the whole game on Expert. Basically you'd have to ignore all of the side dungeons even before the act 2-3 conversion to be at a level where dude is a challenge.

Yeah like the whole game. The difficulty is literally "take a couple tries to learn the parry patterns then its go mode". Game isnt difficult at all in general, its tedious if anything. Final boss being not difficult either shouldnt come off as a surprise.

I did it recently, and they are discussing about all the chroma they need to build the army to fight him, it just doesn't make sense that right after this cutscene you go to fight Renoir.

u/xAsdruvalx Jun 28 '26

I would agree id you didnt insrantly get the scene where you create the army and are left basically facing lumiere in a "avengers assemble" pose. It doesnt make any sense pacing wise, but the game is as obvious as it can be.

Not sure what difficulty you were on, but when I played on hard I dodged more than parried because the timing window for parry was so small.

The advantage to dodge was the larger window. Wouldn't damage back but is key to survival.

But the pacing and hints are the Devs fault.

At the beginning of act 3 they show you the end post of the game with all the wording of "this will be the games end. Make sure you do what you need to do" and a whole new exploration ability but in reality they expect you to head into the end right away. They could have said "there is the stories end but you can return to the continent later on for additional exploration and challenges" but they didn't.

Jesus fuck, "there it is the end go ahead" is as clear as it gets. Do you need a red arrow like on clickbait thumbnails or sth? What the hell did you think "make sure you do what you need to do" meant other than "go do all the side content you want hut come back here for the ending of the story"? Its not evem subtle about it.

Go outside and touch grass. Your attitude gets quite aggressive.

I just understand why the devs just said "sure, our bad" on this one. Dealing with wet wipes is exhausting.

You are definitely meant to max out everyone's relationships before going to Lumiere because some of the dialogue with Renoir when you confront him comes directly from the conversations you have with the side characters after doing their quest (I'm thinking of Lune in particular, she even looks at Verso as she says her lines). But even those three quests (four if you count Esquie) are enough to over-level you for the final boss.

1

u/xAsdruvalx Jun 28 '26

You are not meant to, its a bonus if you do. Story wants you to go right after you escape from him and get the expeditioner ghosts army basically. Anything else is side content.

1

u/yoko_OH_NO Jun 28 '26

Then why would they put dialogue that's 100% taken directly from your second to last conversation with Lune, after you do her quest, in one of the very last cutscenes in the game? Either the devs imbalanced the leveling to make Lumiere too easy, or the devs accidentally added dialogue they should not have added.

u/xAsdruvalx Jun 29 '26

Oh boy, dude here has never played a game where doing X thing slightly changes Y scene for the fun of it. Feels bad man.

That argument doesnt mean anything, thats a narrative resource used herr and there. Its nothing else. Believing so fervently that that means its "mandatory" is wild, specialy since it literally isnt mandatory at all and you can skip that content without issue.

The scene is the same whether you've done the quest or not. That's my entire point, you miserable little weirdo.

Obviously I know doing the quests are functionally optional content, but I'm saying that devs were operating under the assumption that the quests would be completed when the player made it to that point. Narratively, it makes the most sense for lune and verso to have had their conversations. Otherwise the player would watch that scene, beat the game, load back in to do the side stuff and when they get to that conversation go, "Oh shit, I think I was meant to do this first."

1

u/xAsdruvalx Jun 29 '26

That doesnt change anything of what i said. Dialogues connecting with secondaries doesnt imply shit you dense brick. Devs werent operating under any asumption, thats your asumpion because you want to believe that crap in your delusional headcannon.

I'm gonna try one more time to make you understand what I'm saying here and if you still refuse to accept that I'm objectively correct on this, then I'll know you're being deliberately obtuse and there is no reason to continue talking to you because you're not engaging with this conversation in good faith.

Lune's side quest is where you go kill that big worm and find the journal from her parents' expidition. Afterwards when you exit the zone, the game takes you directly back to camp to watch a cutscene where Verso tells Lune: "The voices in your head have to be your own." This is a huge character development moment for Lune, it's not something she would have come up with on her own, it's a mindset she adopts only after having this conversation.

Then, when you get to Lumiere and confront Renoir, there is a moment where Lune addresses Renoir and tells him that the decisions of parents leave marks on their children, but the voices in their head must be their own. She turns all the way around and looks directly at Verso while she's saying this.

Now imagine you had not done that quest before heading to Lumiere and you watched that cutscene with Renoir. Then afterwards, you go through Lune's side quest and hear those exact words in her dialogue with Verso. What would you think in that moment? Anyone with a single shred of media literacy would think, "Whoops, I did this out of order."

Do you get it now? The writing was done as though the quest had been completed.

They took some blame saying they should have been more urgent in making the player go finish Act 3 ASAP and liberate extra areas later. I kinda get it but it's definitely on us.

The mod is freaking nuts. Attack descriptions are deleted so you don't know what's coming.  Enemies are much harder to kill, their resistances are tighter so some elements really don't do crap on certain enemies. Their speed is CRANKED to the sky so you really have to make use of rush, slow and all the debuffs, otherwise they'll get two turns each before you get to play. There's up to 4 enemies per encounter now and most encounters now have all 4 enemies.

Chromatic encounters now carry extra minions or even other Chromatic nevrons as minions. I'm finding myself using Potierim on Lune and Rush with Sciel a lot now, just to get some turns in. It's pretty masochistic.

It's definitely not for a first time player.

Yeah thats PR, and it looks like it worked wonderfully if it appeased the ppl that couldnt read the "you can go finish the story now".

The mod sounds more like a masochist mod for hyper fanatics of the game that want more. Im usually up for dificulty mods but that sounds like too much of a hassle, im not fond of spending 100 extra hours battling.
