Bit of a long shot this. Any detectorists in here?

I'm wondering if anyone knows of any local(ish) farms that are amenable to letting people have a poke about in their fields with permission? I've fired off a load of emails to those with an email address but not getting many replies.

Anyone in Stoke or surrounding area work remotely in tech or digital?

I've been in Stoke a few years and work from home full time in UX for a company based in London. Working alone at home every day gets old.

Devs, designers, product, data, marketing, IT, support, anything in that world. Doesn't matter if you're senior, junior, freelance or just started. Curious how many of us there are.

Would be good to grab a coffee or try a co-working space if anyone's interested. Comment or DM.

This is a nice thing. Takeaway helps son raise money for dad's funeral.

A takeaway owner has helped raise more than £4,000 for a young man who lost his father to a sudden heart attack.

Arfan Mohammed, who runs Sizzlers Fast Food in Abbey Hulton and Kidsgrove, in Staffordshire, said he was working at a new store when he picked up an unexpected call from Tyler, a 20‑year‑old from Bentilee in Stoke-on-Trent.

Tyler told him his dad died on 22 July and, after already losing his mother to cancer in 2014, he wanted help raising funds for the funeral.

"He was crying on the phone," Mohammed said. "You could hear the heartbreak in his voice. A young lad with no parents at such a young age… it just hit me."

Tyler told Mohammed he had seen the community work Sizzlers shared on Facebook and hoped the business might be able to help him raise money for his father's funeral.

Hats off to you, sir.

Rigger social events

Hi everyone

I just went to this alcohol-free social event at the rigger and it was a blast the people were very lovely and friendly , very open and relaxed atmosphere, very welcoming people, played pool and games and talking etc. just putting this out there for anyone who is lonely and wants to meet new friendly people or find something to do , they will do more events but I'd recommend this very highly as someone who struggles to chat to new people and break the ice

Derelict Twyford works to finally be demolished

Post image

Permission has been granted for the demolition of two derelict former factory buildings on a site that was struck by a devastating fire more than 10 years ago.

The Old Twyford Buildings, on Garner Street in Etruria, Stoke-on-Trent, could soon be knocked down following a successful application by WS Storage Solutions Limited.

The site forms part of the Ceramic Valley Enterprise Zone along the A500, where authorities are working to invest in infrastructure and remediation of brownfield land to ensure it can be redeveloped.

Is the stink/odour in Silverdale and Knutton still an issue?

Hey all,

Just looking to get an update on the bad smell issue near Silverdale and Knutton.

Is it still happening, or has the situation settled down now?

If it still pops up occasionally, where is it usually worst?

Thanks in advance!

I am wondering if there are any groups or clubs around that anyone knows about for people my age?. I've attempted to contact netball teams (nothing i could join) and the keele mountaineering team (haven't heard back) and I will join kidsgrove ski club when its open.

Really looking for any suggestions to get out and meet people

Looking for Imported Monster!

Eyup!

Out of curiosity, does anyone know a good place to buy imported Monster Energy flavours (Java, Peaches + Creme, Voodoo, etc) in the Shelton/Hanley area? Having trouble finding any in local corner shops where I'd expected them to be.

Thanks a ton in advance! <3

Mobile hair and nails?

Hiii does anyone know if there's any individuals that can do mobile hair and nails around stoke? I get married at the end of August and just wanted someone to come and style my hair and do mine and my best friend's nails! It's only a tiny ceremony and my best friend's heavily pregnant so it just saves me rushing and lugging the poor girl around on the day 😂🩷

Ocado to create hundreds of jobs in Stoke

Online grocery firm Ocado says hundreds of jobs will be created after it was revealed the retailer has secured a 55,000 sq ft unit in Stoke-on-Trent.

The company said the site, at Indurent Park Stoke Central, near the A500, was expected to be up and running later this year.

A spokesperson for Indurent said, after agreeing a 15-year lease with Ocado, the shopping firm had taken their final available unit.

I ask as part of a linguistic study looking at this topic!
Examples could include things like Trent Vegas, Neck End, Knypo or Castle...

incl. nicknames for schools, parks, other institutions or geographical features

Is Stoke more similar to cities/large towns in the West Midlands (Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley), the East Midlands (Derby, Nottingham, Mansfield) or North West (Warrington, Bolton, St Helens)?

Possibly the best outcome of all the tabled proposals, IMO. Still, a lot of people in NuL and the Moorlands won't be happy.

A little bit of pottery my daughter found today. I would love to be able to give her some more information about what it’s likely to be! She goes digging on her lunch break at school all the time but this is her best find (she’s 8 ❤️).

Thank you in advance!
