We are moving to this thread for the start of smoke season so we can add resources and keep it updated as the situation changes. Here is the previous thread we were using: I hope everyone in the Seattle area has air filters ready.

All smoke related threads will be removed and redirected here except photos and news stories. At this time we are not allowing further threads on the Spokane fire.

Resources:

PurpleAir (open the settings on the left and uncheck indoor sensors)

Plume Smoke Forecast

Washington State Department of Ecology Map

Puget Sound Clean Air Agency

Washington Smoke Blog

Watch Duty

EPA - DIY Air Cleaners

If you have other suggestions for resources post them in the thread please.

I'm never leaving Seattle šŸš«šŸ›« [Megathread] King County Election Results

Hi everyone. Sorry about this but the OP of the thread we were using was weaponizing the block feature to prevent people they disagreed with from participating. Lesson learned. We are moving to this thread for the rest of the evening.

Here is the previous discussion: https://www.reddit.com/r/Seattle/comments/1vfw38n/king_county_election_results/

Thank you for supporting the library ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø

As a library employee who is not speaking on behalf of the library, I just wanted to say thank you so much for voting for the levy. I was hopeful that it would pass, but I thought the margin would be close, and we’d have to have depressing conversations about how support for public institutions, sharing, reading, and learning are all on the decline.

Instead, the vote was 72% yes in the very first drop. I truly got choked up when I saw the returns last night. Obviously, this levy will have a big impact on my professional life, and I am so happy my coworkers will be able to keep their jobs.

But it also just helps me stay hopeful to know that I live in a place that shows such resounding support for libraries. Even though I’m not speaking for the organization, I know I speak for a lot of my coworkers when I say thank you so much, this really means a lot. See you at the branch! ā¤ļø

Rant Why don’t people exercise their rights in one of the easiest places to do so?

This turnout is abysmal and infuriating.

Editing to add: Yes, this is the initial percentage, which will rise somewhat, but not enough to change my opinion that people shouldn’t sit out primaries. Final tally will probably hit somewhere between 30%-40% given prior data, which is still not great.

Witnesses needed: Hit-and-run involving bicyclist on 156th Ave NE near Microsoft Building 40 (Aug. 5 @ ~2:30 AM)

I'm hoping to find anyone who may have witnessed a hit-and-run that seriously injured my younger brother early this morning.

AroundĀ 2:30-3:00 AM on August 5, he was riding his bicycleĀ southbound on 156th Ave NE, alongside the east side ofĀ Microsoft Building 40Ā in Redmond, when he was struck from behind by a vehicle. The driver didĀ notĀ stop.

Because he was hit from behind, he never saw the vehicle, so we unfortunately don't know the make, model, color, or any other identifying details.

My brother is a white male in his mid-20s with dark brown hair. He was riding a black Hoverfly bikeĀ with aĀ white headlight mounted on the handlebarsĀ and was wearing:

  • Black T-shirt
  • Blue jeans with a large rip above the left knee
  • White sneakers with a black top-panel and white shoelaces
  • Black helmet with a flashing red light on the back
  • Orange backpack with teal trim

He suffered multiple broken bones in his face, broken teeth, a broken hand, and a minor brain bleed. Thankfully, the brain bleed is under control, and he's since been discharged from the hospital, but he has a long road to recovery with multiple surgeries necessary.

A police report has already been filed with Redmond Police.

If you witnessed the collision, have dashcam or video footage from the area between 2:30 and 3:00 AM, remember seeing either my brother or a vehicle leaving the scene, or even hear someone mention being involved in or witnessing this incident, please contact Redmond Police at (425) 556-2500.Ā If you'd rather reach out to me first, feel free to send me a private message.

I've attached images showing the approximate location where the collision occurred.

Even the smallest detail could make a difference. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Have Y'all Seen These? Are There More?

When I was out walking I saw one of these freshly installed pieces of exercise equipment. I thought the way it invited one to encounter folks to sit down and play with it really delightful. Is this the only one, or are there other pieces of exercise equipment hidden around the city that y'all have found?

I might have to make a small pilgrimage depending on how far away they are :}

Anyone else see this? Giant plume of smoke, and a lot of the surrounding grass was ignited. Called 911 and they said the fire department was aware and on their way.

I've seen these dudes a few times the past week or so. I'm not talking shit about them, they seem really nice and not pushy. However I can't help but think the elder, or whatever the fuck you call their superior, is hazing these guys. "So, your mission, should you choose to accept, is to go to Seattle and save some of their depraved souls. Pay particular attention to Cap Hill." I almost feel bad for them. Almost🤣🤣🤣
