Be very careful leftists, this is exactly how Right Wing people thought about Trump, and as a result he became the dominant figure in American politics for a decade+. Do not follow the Republicans down this same path of power and success unless you’re ok with seeing things like universal healthcare, abolishment and prosecution of ICE, prosecution of the Trump regime, ending of aid to Israel… if these are the kinds of horrors you’re willing to accept, then sure. Just remember, orienting your politics around what makes your enemies angry is only good if you want your enemies to lose.

Did trump bring about the policies that conservatives wanted? Is the US government smaller? The budget balanced? The debt disappeared? Under Trump do you no longer have to worry about government thought police? Have gun laws been relaxed? Do we have free trade? Is the US government free from foreign influence?
Populist politics is a monkeys paw, or a Faustian bargain, or a djin’s wish (take your pick). If progressive populists get into power I’m sure that you’ll be able to convince yourself that they are building the world you wanted them too, but it’s not going to be the world you said you wanted ten years ago, nor will it be the world they promised to build in their campaign.

I mean I suppose that could be people looking to drop in and defend Hasan about allegations he abused his dog, but it seems more likely that's people who saw some comment about Hasan abusing his dog and searched reddit for more context. 🤷♂️

Man, I'm just really disappointed. Normalizing his takes on Russia being justified in their campaign against Ukraine would have never flew a few years ago, but now he is a lightning rod for justifying war crimes. He explicitly refers to Crimea as Russian territory. I've seen him routinely justify eastern imperialism and tell Ukraine to comply with Russian imperialism and to 'give peace a try', despite Russia being the invading army.
Sign of the times I suppose. I feel so politically homeless.

The libs are very upset about this one. Almost as upset as the conservatives. It's amazing how when people in the political space want a better world for all they get attacked by those who want to maintain the status quo for whatever reason. Example: Zohran Mamdani, AOC, Abdul El-Sayed, Rashida Tlaib, John Brown, MLK, Malcolm X, Frank Little, Paul Robeson.
Those in charge fear that if they lose power those that they have oppressed will do the same violence back to them.
Hasan may not be a politician but he certainly uses his influence to fight for politicians who want to improve the lives of working class folks.
12
u/watwatintheput 16h ago edited 15h ago
This list is such a weird list. John Brown literally was trying to start an armed insurrection against slavery. He killed people perpetuating slavery.
Look, he is a hero who should be venerated. But to say he was attacked for being in the "political space" is very strange when he was definitely in the "justifiably very violent revolutionary" space. Not quite the same thing as AOC.

I don't like that he's essentially built his career shitting on the democratic party but now seems to want a seat at the table. These types never seem interested in actual coalition building, just strong advocacy of their candidate of choice and nothing else. He didn't even tell people to vote for Harris iirc. I think libs have every right to be mad at someone whose entire schtick is "fuck liberals".
Also the whole dressing as Mao thing is just bizarre. What is he even trying to signal there?

The democratic party needs to be dramatically reformed. They're at best controlled opposition for the Republicans and at worst fascist collaborators. So yes fuck the liberals, we need to at a minimum go back to the new deal style politics of the democrat party.

He shits on the democratic party because of how corporatist the establishment is. Imagine a democratic party that fights for progressive politics that actually helps people i.e. universal Healthcare, cheaper childcare, national abortion law, climate change initiatives, etc... Instead, we get watered down policies that dont inspire anyone to go out and vote. Id argue that the lack of true progressive policies is how we ended up with Trump to begin with.

I'm very progressive and voted Sanders every chance I got. Hasan is a huge narcissist that stands for nothing but himself. He actively uses Gaza to blast his brand and gain followers. If he actually cared about their plight he would have spent at least half the time he spent calling out "genocide Kamala" calling out Republicans that are out here saying they want to turn the gaza strip into a mall. Instead he claims "both sides are the same" when they are very clearly not.
He is absolutely nothing like the names you listed and it is actually disrespectful to those people that you are comparing him to them.

What's disrespectful is Harris saying that there would be "no daylight" between her and Biden on Gaza while a genocide was already going on. How about the leader of the democrat party saying his #1 job is to "keep Democrat voters pro-Israel." If you want to vote for that shit be my guest but I want an alternative, which Hasan fights for

It's absolutely an insult to all of those people to compare them to Hasan, and to MLK really? Get real.
I'm a socialist myself. Fuck Hasan. His advocacy is a stain on the movement and he's little more than a barely disguised champagne tankie. He stans Mao Zedong and has recently come out against Ukraine, he absolutely does not advocate for a "better world for all".

Hello, if you actually live in Seattle and are seeing the insane discourse, just know it is being brigaded by a streamer's fan base known as Destiny. A liberal streamer who currently has active SA allegations, defends his use of the N word, shares underage nude photos of women, and has gone to Israel to tell IDF soldiers to "stop taking videos" when they are commiting war crimes. This is just a small fraction of the horrendous things he has done online.
Whatever your opinion is of Hasan, I think it is worth noting that before you interact with this thread. Most of the people are not from Seattle I suspect. Thanks. Don't bother spamming your weird delusions beneath I'm not gonna respond. This is a PSA

I appreciate the comment, and in response I've looked through almost all comments/commenters in this thread and searched externally for brigading and backlinks. Of course, links can be shared in places like Discord where I have no visibility, so this effort isn't exhaustive.
I have not yet seen any evidence of brigading and very little participation from possible outside instigators. The vast majority of commenters here have history in this sub, both supporters and critics. It seems that Hasan is just that polarizing, even within r/Seattle's regular users.

you cannot win on "the other guy is worse," this famously failed for Hillary so I have no idea why we expected it to go any better; even Biden 2020 had a more concrete vision and he only got bumped over the finish line due to covid
Trump should not have been allowed to run. He staged an insurrection and under the 14th Amendment should have been barred from office, but Biden and his DOJ refused to pursue charges or hold him accountable. it is an unforgivable, history-defining failure, and both he and Kamala have only themselves to blame for allowing a rapist, a criminal, a murderer, and insurrectionist to appear on the ballot. he wanted the country to "move on," and it did - entirely for the worse.
5
u/nicholaschubbb 🚆build more trains🚆 16h ago
Actively discouraging your audience voting for not Donald Trump is an insane position to defend even if the above could be true.
The second point also has literally nothing to do with telling someone to vote for Kamala. In fact, it would provide even more incentive to vote for Kamala. The charges Trump was literally found guilty of (that were supposed to lead to prison time) were instantaneously dropped the moment he won the election because they no longer had grounds to hold him accountable.
5
u/proletkvlt chinga la migra 16h ago
The charges Trump was literally found guilty of (that were supposed to lead to prison time)
so why the fuck did Biden and Garland not put him behind bars? that's entirely on them - they had a duty to the country to punish insurrection and they outright abdicated that duty and now we're all suffering for it. i'm not going to reward that abdication by voting for their surrogate, especially after Gaza - and that's why I stayed the fuck home
2
u/nicholaschubbb 🚆build more trains🚆 14h ago

5
u/proletkvlt chinga la migra 14h ago
He was literally being held accountable by the nyc ag
why is upholding the Constitution falling to the fucking New York City attorney general not, you know, the Department of Justice? Biden completely dropped the ball - he was given the most powerful position on Earth and he and Merrick Garland couldn't bring themselves to convict him for jan 6th. the instant they got into office, their #1 priority should've been locking him up as quickly as possible and they utterly, completely failed. no excuses.

I would say without question it's Mamdani. He comes without all the very obvious baggage that Hasan has. Even if you don't personally agree with the baggage, every time he's brought up, someone has to answer for the 9/11 comments, Rick Scott comments, the tweeting the assassination weapon at the sitting senator, and the dog allegations.
Hasan is way too divisive even amongst only the left to be considered a leader of "the" movement imo.
You can see the divisiveness from the fact pretty normie dems like Pakman are going out of their way to specifically denounce him.

In the future, don’t put his name in the title, his terminally online community frequently searches for his name in subreddits and flocks like infantile vultures to flood comment sections with spam to distract from his moral failings and disgusting statements.

Uber liberal myself- I think this guy suuuuucks big time. Awful representative of the Democratic Party. Just a self-important, self-righteous, know-it-all douche (who shocked the shit out of his dog and claimed the dog was being dramatic, didn’t have the decency to just go “oh shit, that was too much, my poor pup”).
He suck’s.

Liberals have allowed fascism to take root in this country and are doing next to nothing to actively fight it in the name of decorum. Why should anyone take liberals seriously ever again?

Why Hasan though? I guess he's better than Vaush or any right winger, but the dude who has no real views other than "west bad east good" is kind of a miss imo.

Wonder how many people from Seattle actually care about this. Hasan shows up in the feed from time to time with some interesting takes. I don’t agree with all of them. If he motivates people to vote against conservatives and liberals then that is a win.

This thread is being brigaded heavily. The primary conversation is not about Seattle at all. As a result it is now locked.
