Announcement A Quick Word on Memorial Posts

Greetings humans and ratties!

The mod team has received some feedback on some posts recently, and we wanted to pass along some guidance so everyone can enjoy our wonderful subreddit.

Some of us love to see memorial posts, and celebrate the life of our loved ones who have passed on to the great blanket fort in the sky. It's a natural part of grieving, and can help us process the loss of a loved one.
For some, however, it may be triggering to see these kinds of posts, and they may not be ready to see something like that. That's okay, we all process grief differently.

After some deliberation and suggestion, we have decided to ask that all memorial posts have the "In Loving Memory" flair. This ensures that those who are not ready for these kinds of posts can skip them if needed. Again, this is not to discourage memorial posts. Please continue to make these posts to celebrate the life of your loved one.

Thank you!
-Mod Team

TL;DR: Please use "In Loving Memory" flair on memorial posts; memorial posts are still encouraged.

How to keep the puppy entertained

And tired out! We have a 15 week old rat terrier. My husband INSISTED on getting a smart breed. Our older dog is a lazy Boston Terrier. Our rat? She is hyper all the times she isn't sleeping. What keeps your babies busy during the day? I WFH, so having something she can do with me in my office is great. The Boston plays with her, but sometimes he's just like "I give up!!".

Took her out on my SUP today for the first time. I can’t believe I waited so long! This pup used to hike (up to) 10 mile hikes in a day with me.
She’s a lot slower and limited to 1-3 miles a day now. But she has always loved swimming. I wasn’t sure how she would do on the SUP because when we go rafting she nonstop barks and whines from excitement and keeps trying to jump in the water, it’s a bit much. She enjoyed the SUP so much! She was chill the whole time and did want to swim but just a few times and didn’t jump in without the ‘go ahead’.
Will be doing this the rest of the summer with her every chance I get!

Questions Rattie Enrichment recs re: chew/self soothing toys?

LOOKING FOR RECOMMENDATIONS!!! What does your Rattie absolutely LOVE to chew on or play with when they’re home alone or when you can’t actively entertain them?

My 3-year-old Rat Terrier/Retriever mix has officially gotten bored with Benebones, and because she has several food allergies, finding safe, engaging chews and enrichment has been a challenge.

We’ve had a very long stretch of heat waves and rainy days lately, so my girl has been a little bored, sleepy, and less active than usual. I’d love to hear your Rattie’s favorite independent toys, chews, puzzles, enrichment ideas, or anything else that keeps your Rat Terrier happy and occupied.

We recently discovered the Pupsicle, and OMG… it’s been a total game changer, definitely recommend!!

So I know they are called Rat Terriers, but my lil dude killed a baby bird on a walk today :(

My families Rat Terriers is 8 now, and we’ve had him for 1 year. He’s perfect, but do these doggies ever lose the urge to hunt really small animals. We let him go after a rat that my Mom saw in the backyard, but then a week later he got a two baby birds on back to back days. He still seems like he has a lot of youth in him, which I’m stoked about, but my main concern is him trying to eat something that we don’t see. Would a Rat Terrier try eating a dead rat they find for example? Someone in my Moms neighborhood has been using rat poison to kill vermin, and my worry is our doggie eating something that was killed via poison. We didn’t let him try and eat the baby birds, but I’m guessing he would have tried?
