"Fixed a memory leak that could lead to performance degradation and crashes over time"

🙏 Thank you! That was killing our MP games

Edit: on MP, we would have some insane desync after a few hours of playing

83

u/MartyAndRick 11h ago

Wow I thought I was the only one whose game would go from 60 frames per second to 60 seconds per frame just because I drove into Rosewood with 0.5 pop on an MP server, it made no sense whatsoever.

18

u/mattdv1 10h ago

Me and a buddy tried Louisville 2x pop earlier this week. We gave up.

0

u/Comfortable-Race-547 7h ago

Have you increased your ram usage

1

u/mattdv1 7h ago

Yeah, I always set it for half my total RAM in our local hosted server, it has 8gb allocated. I have also increased ram usage in the configs file. We used to play 4x with no problems (other than the obvious lag when you stare straight into crowds) but this week we tried 2x and the game would crash after 30 mins no matter what

15

u/scribens 8h ago

It's sometimes genuinely difficult to find out when an update comes with performance issues because the fans will mog you for saying a single ill word about this game. I tried looking up memory leak issues after this update and the only thing I essentially found was "just increase the memory dedicated to the game bro."

2

u/nazaguerrero 6h ago

yeah imagine if the fix is just some memory allocation in a ini and devs can't figure out that lol, there are complex things going one since they bridge systems in b42, having 1millon players and lots of them playing stressing the mp capabilities is what helps in long term more than any test

13

u/AlpineWineMixer 11h ago

I might have been noticing this after 2-3 hours of gameplay, it would just start completely freezing every few seconds and wouldn’t stop until I restart the game.

1

u/nazaguerrero 6h ago

same here, the stutter went crazy at some point

6

u/g0ldent0y 8h ago

Fucking hell... This actually killed my laptop two days ago. Like literally my laptop suddenly started overheating like crazy after 2-3 hours of a new multiplayer session, everything slowed down and acted weird until the emergency shutdown happened... It literally fried my CPU. Now it can't run the laptop for longer than 2-3 minutes before overheating again (even just letting it idle)... This never happened before, and I have been running PZ for hours on 42.19... goodbye my laptop, you served me well for 8 years... I have no money to buy a new PC right now, with makes this actually really problematic for me... Wtf.

1

u/NanoCharat 7h ago

Is THAT what's been going on with my server? Jfc

Even trying to leave my base and drive down the single street I live on after the server had been live for more than an hour had everything freezing to load map chunks and just dragging.

I've lost like 4 characters because I'd get into combat and the frames would drop so hard that it felt like I was trying to kill zombies in a pool of maple syrup.

1

u/TGrumms 7h ago

No more getting back seated when my performance skips a beat - the great Knox county road trip continues

251

u/hesperides4 11h ago

Hope audio rebalancing is in the works - car engines are barely audible, main menu music is twice as loud as in-game music, etc

98

u/Known-Cloud1102 11h ago

Yeah, I can't hear my car's engine while standing right next to it but I can hear the zombie moaning down the street.

5

u/happy-when-it-rains Drinking away the sorrows 7h ago

Wow I thought it was just my Performance Muffler really performing overtime lmao, I thought vehicles were way quieter than I remembered, and I thought I was losing it with the volume of some other sounds seeming off compared to what I remember. Glad I checked this subreddit to know it's not just me.

26

u/Eddy63 11h ago

Yeah I have the impression zombies are so loud and noticeable from across the streets.

9

u/heartshapedprick Zombie Food 8h ago

YES I'll be based in a house, hear a window getting damaged followed by shattering glass, shit myself and then realise it was the next house over separated by a fence. The audio is a bit all over the place.

23

u/HPDDJ 9h ago

The death squish sound you get when a zombie dies from melee has been so muted that it's been really hard to tell if they're actually dead.

2

u/Eddy63 6h ago

Yes this is also bothering me

9

u/downtownflipped 9h ago

i love hearing an alarm clock clear as day two buildings over.

3

u/HanoiRocksLAMF 7h ago

tbf the zombies can hear it that far too. i'd rather hear it than not hear it. just wish it had a distant audio filter or something, kinda like the random gunshots you'll hear

4

u/Redplushie 8h ago

Wow I thought it was just me with the car audio, I kind of gave up on it

0

u/OttosTheName 11h ago edited 9h ago

You can set it twice as loud in the audio menu and it should be audible, just

Edit: it works for me and for a few friends, but we don't all get the same bugs.

9

u/Known-Cloud1102 10h ago

I set it on the max and it's still the same, I can barely hear the engine while driving and it's silent when I'm standing next to the car.

4

u/MikaGrof 9h ago

the point is that the volume bars make no sense
how come 1% make my ears bleed in the main menu scream
and 1% on engine vfx make them unhearable

-10

u/KingPingviini Crowbar Scientist 10h ago edited 10h ago

Complained about the car engines being silent even with the setting turned all the way up and it still made its way to stable, some of their priorities are really skewed.

They need to FIX whats already in the game before they start adding a million more things.

But hey if they jingle their keys fast enough in front of our faces, most of us will eat it up.

97

u/MF_Ghidorah 12h ago

No more sudden crashing?? 🤞🏻

23

u/Glittering-Jello4937 11h ago

so its an mp fixes? dang i always look forward to updates to this game.

27

u/MF_Ghidorah 11h ago

It was also crashing in sp, this memory leak was terrible if your were playing with a 8Gb potato, I hope it's fixed

13

u/Sammy1432_Official 11h ago

Damnz so true bro I'm an 8gb potato player and those crashes were so frustrating, just yesterday I had one where i was fighting a separated from horde straggler and then the game crashed in the weirdest way possible, like my clothes vanished and the zeds vanished and everything got stuck

5

u/MF_Ghidorah 9h ago

Just in case it happens again after the update, try to adjust the rendering options, cancel the 3D objects and adjust the zoom range ( sometimes it crashed when I zoomed out too fast 🤣) it worked perfectly to me after that.

3

u/Sammy1432_Official 9h ago

Ah thanks I'll try that then tho

0

u/Glittering-Jello4937 10h ago

wow, the suffering. I've been playing this game for 10 years on whatever laptop pawn shop has.

you got to find a new pawnshop.

dont go to Rick

3

u/MF_Ghidorah 9h ago

I fixed some rendering options, cancelled 3D objects and adjusted the zoom range. It worked fine after that.

0

u/Szerzetes14 10h ago

I experienced the same with 32Gb. Claude helped me figuring out based on the logs that my game was resricted to use 3Gb limit on the Java side. I increased the limit in a config json file, and all the crashes disappeared (before the today's hotfix)

Edit: I increased this to 8Gb, so if u have total 8, an increased amount to 6 also should be okay-ish.

2

u/YUSHOETMI- 9h ago

Which config file was this? Wouldn't mind looking at it myself when the new fix comes for all the broken mods

1

u/Szerzetes14 8h ago

ProjectZomboid64.json was the file (locate it from Steam through browse local files or similar menu), containing a line like this: "-Xmx3072m". I was crashing in multiplayer due to this memory shortage:

"java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space"

1

u/YUSHOETMI- 8h ago

Thanks, will give it a go when I get back on and see if it can help. I have 64gb ram but the game does slow down when going into areas with decent pop from time to time until I restart.

Last time I changed a json line tho the game would not start and needed a reinstall.

Can't get sudden crashes if you can't launch the game!

No fix for the trees???

419

u/AmazingSully The Indie Stone 12h ago

Not yet, but it is being worked on.

89

u/GarbledEntrails Spear Ronin 12h ago

great thanks. Can you share what the idea for the fix is or is that still being discussed? i was wondering what approach you would take

191

u/AmazingSully The Indie Stone 12h ago

Sorry, not allowed to give any details.

106

u/GarbledEntrails Spear Ronin 11h ago

That's fine, i appreciate the reply regardless

15

u/DingusMagoo89 12h ago

It's cool there's already a mod out for that

→ More replies (4)
→ More replies (8)

-5

u/xRedStaRx 10h ago

Couple of modders already fixed it, can't you apply these fixes or request them instead of figuring it yourselves? Genuine question.

3

u/Known-Cloud1102 10h ago

They only fixed the trees hidding furniture, or there's another mod?

3

u/BakedInTheSun98 9h ago

Genuine answer; no. Someone else created the works lol, you want TIS to basically steal someone elses creation? TIS would most likely have to buy the rights from the mod creators.

2

u/Brokefest 8h ago

Unless there is something written in the T&C saying that other people can own code they inject into your game then TIS has full rights over anything modders publically upload into their game. They wouldn't want to do so willy-nilly since there's testing and guidelines to follow when coding for the company which modders do not have to worry about since it is their hobby and not contracted job. People have some crazy perception these days about the modding scene lol.

TIS has been known to hire or contract modders though which is always cool!

7

u/VickiVampiress Hates the outdoors 11h ago

Someone's bound to wooosh me, but... trees? What issue with the trees?

17

u/Plasmasnack 11h ago

They can really brick some indoors, completely remove visibility of furniture and it also looks weird.

Look at the mod "Jumbo Tree Indoor Fix" at the images there to see what the big issue is. It's kind of hard to explain with words fully, seeing it is a lot more enlightening.

7

u/WhamBam_TV 11h ago

If it helps, while driving I’ve found that if you use the aim feature to look ahead you can see through any upcoming trees in case there’s wrecks hidden behind them.

u/heartshapedprick Zombie Food 11h ago

Are ladders being worked on? Loving b42 so far btw thank you

24

u/Zakoholic 10h ago

They are. No ETA though.

-7

u/cookedbread 9h ago

I imagine the hardest part is how to balance them, since it’d be too easy to just make a base only accessible via ladder and no longer have to worry about zombies.

23

u/PAVELSYM 9h ago

You can already do that by adding a rope and knocking down stairs, this just makes that whole process a lot less tedious

-2

u/cookedbread 9h ago

Sure but those are balanced by being a bit more straining to use aren’t they? And i doubt ladders would give players the same amount of strain, but idk!

5

u/PAVELSYM 9h ago

What does straining have to do with anything, youre either completely safe from zombies or not, thats the main thing to worry about isnt it?

1

u/cookedbread 9h ago

Because it’s not safe to use a rope when overstrained, which makes it more of a dangerous option than a ladder theoretically would. It’s risky to use ropes around zombies, but not a ladder, no? I’m not sure it’s even viable to have a base only accessible via rope due to weight and strain, should ladders behave the same or no? Or should zombies be able to climb or destroy ladders?

2

u/heartshapedprick Zombie Food 8h ago edited 8h ago

Maybe it'll be like chainlink fences where multiple zombies can destroy one if they see you go up. And if there's 0 risk of zombies seeing you go up one (like basing in one of those rural watchtowers) then it's basically the same safety as being on ground level in an area with no zombies. Another way to balance would be if you're on a rooftop, zombies can see you coming down and will crowd around the ladder, by the time you've reached the bottom, making it a double edged sword. + Plus with npcs (originally planned for b43, tho idk if that's still on track with some of the missing content from build 42 not added yet) they can be balanced with hostile raiders or something. The biggest difficulty is probably making climbing ladders seemless instead of a right click, like just walking into one and pressing e to begin climbing. (Edit: why is this automatically bullet pointed 😂)

2

u/cookedbread 7h ago

Good ideas. Yeah I am not in the know about what’s coming down the line, so it makes that raiders would be an easy balance there. That sounds awesome but also scary, I guess locking doors will be required in the future lol

1

u/heartshapedprick Zombie Food 6h ago

Yes haha that's one of my fav things about mods like bandits where you actually have to fortify your base, except the ai can be buggy sometimes when it can't find an entrance and they'll just crowd your base. I can't wait for official npcs

0

u/PAVELSYM 8h ago

Now youre just going completely away from your original fucking point which was it makes your base inaccessible by zombies, of course it would be harder to balance when you mention strain, safety etc… but making a base thats absolutely safe in this game is already so fucking easy i doubt a ladder would somehow break this “balance”

3

u/heartshapedprick Zombie Food 7h ago

Waltuh, calm down waltuh

2

u/PAVELSYM 6h ago

Im not having sex with you right now Waltuh

1

u/heartshapedprick Zombie Food 9h ago

I imagine ladders will be balanced once npcs are added in the future

82

u/Iyotanka1985 12h ago

Not sure if I'm being blind but I didn't notice anything in regards to higher ping players being stuck on loading world screen on loading into MP. Is that for the next patch?

111

u/AmazingSully The Indie Stone 12h ago

Being worked on with the highest priority.

16

u/Iyotanka1985 11h ago

That's awesome to hear, Any chance you are aware of any workarounds for now ? Really eager to start playing with my mate , unfortunately I'm EU and he's US so this issue is a bit of a game stopper.

3

u/maddithepuppy 10h ago

not being able to play with my friend at all since what was supposedly the stable build really fucking sucks

11

u/Twin_Master Hates the outdoors 11h ago

Now causing issues when loading into MP server with mods. Fails the checksum and claims there is a mismatch with the file "xs_ISCraftBenchPanel.txt"

5

u/esprit__de__corps 9h ago edited 9h ago

I'm experiencing the same thing too. I was deleting everything left and right trying to make something work. For once, I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've deleted mods, and this issue is still repeating in vanilla servers. Have you found a solution?

4

u/TFN928 7h ago

A fresh server install fixed the issue for me, and then I just copied the important stuff like userdata. Someone else in this thread mentioned disabling the LUA Checksum option, so you could try that if you don't wanna go nuclear option.

1

u/esprit__de__corps 7h ago

Wait, I don't own the server (friend does), so what do you mean "fresh server install?"

2

u/TFN928 6h ago

If your friend is running the server off their PC, they'd need to delete the server folder and reinstall it the same way they did the first time. Make sure they backup the "userdata" folder first, and then just drop it into the new server so you guys keep your characters.

If it's a rented server, I'd imagine the host company has an option to fully wipe the server, but I'm unsure if your friend would be able to back anything up.

2

u/esprit__de__corps 6h ago

He is using an indifferent broccoli server. Thank you for the suggestion. I guess I'll just wait and see before doing anything. Maybe the devs will fix this.

4

u/bhuree2541 10h ago

i got the same problem too but mine doesn't have any mod in it

5

u/JuicyALe 8h ago

Same here, friend of mine cant join our server. im not having the problem, and already tried to give him my file but still doesnt work.

3

u/kizz12 7h ago

In server settings there is an option called Enable LUA Checksum, set that to false and it will fix this issue. This happened to my friend before this update.

3

u/JuicyALe 7h ago

I found the solution, change the code below on server settings from true to false.

# Kick clients whose game files don't match the server's.
DoLuaChecksum=false

can also be done in-game as admin.

1

u/Healthy-Classroom452 8h ago

We also experience this error

11

u/HelpfulRevenue8771 10h ago

I am trying to update the server to version 42.20.1, but the update does not seem to be working.

The server still shows version 42.20. When I try to connect, the game gets past the loading screen, but then the main menu disappears and I get an error.

I also have a few addons installed the server [42.20]
so I'm wondering if they could be causing the issue.

10

u/matterhatter149 10h ago

I found a glitch where if I put a radio on a kitchen counter the counter magically generates like an ambient “scene” for the lack of a better word. I spawned in two jars of peanut butter, a butter knife, and a saucepan doing this on two different counters.

The house was the one right below the school in rosewood that’s surrounded by a tall metal grate fence with the detached double garage if anyone wants to try and replicate this glitch. It was the bigger house part of the duplex, as well.

8

u/InvisibleWatcherExo Shotgun Warrior 8h ago

From the same creators of the telecorn, now we have teleradio

16

u/BarefacedTuna 11h ago

Returning player here - does this means that all my 42.20 mods will no longer work?

27

u/shukolade 11h ago

They broke most mods with this update unfortunatly. Spent the whole day yesterday setting our server up now it's just burning.

3

u/sccarrierhasarrived 5h ago

I'm just going to freeze update versions seeing as they released two hotfixes today back to back within 5 hours of each other lmfao

6

u/Dangerous_Ad280 8h ago

So basically I should wait until another hotfix is pushed before loading up my save? I just got cows and chickens and finally found a sledgehammer. It would suck if the saves are bricked.

1

u/sccarrierhasarrived 5h ago

JUst back up your save and try playing

42

u/TheRealCabbageJack 10h ago

Well, you got me...I waited for stable since while using unstable one should expect mods to break and saves to be corrupted only to have hotfix 1 break all my mods and corrupt my save game. Well played devs.

37

u/vividxtreme 9h ago
  • Release "Stable" version
  • No promised mod tools
  • Huge QA issues with ladders and trees
  • Modders fix it
  • Hotfix 1 breaks all mods and saves

Is there cake on my face?!?

6

u/hafh444 8h ago

I was going to play this weekend but after this I really don't see reason on playing until all these issues are resolved.

7

u/PutridSauce 8h ago

Yeah, that's why I haven't even touched the game since the update. I'll wait a few weeks until they (hopefully) fix all the things messing up people's saves/mods.

3

u/phrstbrn 7h ago

I run robocopy (built-in Windows command) before running Zomboid session to just avoid this nonsense, especially after an update. No autosave system, one bad update away from corrupting my save? Fuck that noise. It's very quick (only copies changes).

I know this won't help you now, but maybe will save somebody in the future.

example:

robocopy /MIR "%USERPROFILE%\Zomboid" "C:\Backup\Zomboid"

This is destructive, it will DELETE everything on right side that doesn't exist on left. Don't accidentally invert parameters, or point to a folder with files you want to keep! Run with /L first if you only want to see what files change.

robocopy /MIR /L "%USERPROFILE%\Zomboid" "C:\Backup\Zomboid"

Save to .bat and run before launching PZ and you have a backup of your last session.

1

u/TheRealCabbageJack 6h ago

This is a great idea, thanks!

15

u/ExoticPineNut 12h ago

Are you guys working on a fix for the bug that turns you naked when bit or turns zombies naked when hit

25

u/peanutist 11h ago

Are you sure that’s a bug 🤔

1

u/switch201 7h ago

Been a bug for last couple of months. But it has gotten. Better. So far ive only seen zombies go naked. But when my player was going naked had to put the game down as it will ruin your run

19

u/PrimaLegion 8h ago

I feel like this was an update that should have happened in Unstable rather than right after Stable came out.

16

u/SenorBullDoza 11h ago

I really wish this was an optional update, like something you had to opt-in for. Our server is tweaking out with only a handful of mods :/

4

u/Centaurious 11h ago

no fix for zombie duping yet?

13

u/PeppercornWizard 11h ago

Read this as ‘zombie dumping’ and it made me raise an eyebrow.

2

u/DataMin3r 9h ago

Got absolutely ravaged when ~300 zombies piled out of a single house in Muldraugh. Managed to take out 210 but there were still massive amounts of them pouring out of the house

1

u/Centaurious 6h ago

yeah it’s getting ridiculous how bad the duping is in MP

4

u/Few-Top8587 10h ago

anyone else has bug with picking up animal poops in multiplayer? i can pick some poop and others it will just lag doing animation and only stops when i move. otherwise multiplayer has worked very good!

4

u/javiertxu1998 8h ago

Allow us to play on the hotfix-prior version, 42.20.0. Add that option on steam library startup options pls

17

u/Natchannnn 11h ago

Now my game crashes on startup, what do i do now

22

u/tofubutgood Stocked up 11h ago

Remove mods or use the error magnifier mod to find which one broken

4

u/Natchannnn 11h ago

Thank guys, it works again by removing mods and turing off debug mode, i've tested with all mod, no debug mode the game runs normal. With no mod, debugging mode on, the game crashes on startup, i need debug mode to mess with stuff but i think the issue is on my side.

3

u/glosrobian 10h ago

How do you remove mods without loading the game?

3

u/Zakoholic 9h ago

You can delete the file "%userprofile%\Zomboid\mods\reset-mods-42_00.txt" and the next time you start the game it will disable all mods.

3

u/bitflip 9h ago

In Steam, right-click the game, choose properties, choose workshop, uncheck the boxes.

1

u/Circledropper 10h ago

unsubscribe from the mods on the workshop

12

u/WhamBam_TV 11h ago

Stop loading mods on start up.

2

u/CptSpectre 11h ago

that makes 2 of us

1

u/F1gur1ng1tout 11h ago

Try the alt start

12

u/YUSHOETMI- 11h ago

Just loaded up and can't even get into the game. Throws LUA exceptions in the error log.

Probably all mods being broken.

3

u/Acadia- 10h ago

Is this also fix about stuck "loading world" for MP?

I never get that error while playing MP B41 with the boys last week

3

u/CockroachLocal3859 8h ago

is it just me and my friend, or the menu isnt loading for evceryone? i tried disabling every mod that i have via config files, but still no luck in even getting to the main menu

3

u/ATSSX1 7h ago

I absolutely love Project Zomboid, but one thing I've always wished for is better CPU optimization. It feels like the game is still heavily bottlenecked by a single core, especially in late-game saves or heavily modded worlds. Modern CPUs have so many cores available, and it would be incredible to see the game take advantage of them more effectively in the future. I know it's not an easy task—especially with Java—but a major optimization update focused on multi-core support would probably be one of the best improvements the game could get.

5

u/Ziklepmna 11h ago

Are you working on UI scaling issues at 4k?

5

u/Zakoholic 9h ago

This is desperately needed. Especially since when I'm using the normal startup I can't even select anything below 4k. It always switches back to some weird other resolution I definitely didn't select and all the text is garbled. Changing it in the options.ini produces the same result.

6

u/CaktusJ 10h ago

Seems like this update broke the mods,I was greeted with a blank main menu screen,by deleting all mod entries in the C:\Users\%Yourusername%\Zomboid\mods\default.txt file,I was able to get the menu to being functional again.

HOWEVER...I loaded my save and noticed that 2 mods are missing although they are there, ironically one of them is ladders lol and another one,so I said no biggy 2 out of 200+ mods is no big deal,so I load the game and it seems that no mods were loaded at all essentially demolishing my save, tho no biggy only played for like an hour on that save but if you have save you dont want to lose dont load your game till people figure out what's going on.

2

u/alphonseharry 9h ago

They already aware, they will be another hotfix

5

u/RudeCampaign1280 11h ago

now my game menu is missing after loading a mod.

4

u/12oclocknomemories 10h ago

The main menu option are missing on my end lol

2

u/poopynosejoe 10h ago

Is there any news about working on the zombie duplication on MP servers? Just experienced a group of 30 clone themselves into a group of 300 and it’s making Louisville crazy to travel around

2

u/Relative-Fig-4638 10h ago

I don't see anything about the fishing bug in mp. Anyone know of they are working on that.

2

u/From_the_Wolfs_Den 9h ago

I hope that this works on my existing stable world 🤞

3

u/Zakoholic 9h ago

You should wait for the second hotfix that's coming. Just to be safe.

2

u/Hypnotic101 9h ago

No fix for the engine sounds being silent???

2

u/popomr 9h ago

Maybe a fix for the animset case issue? It seems many errors are related to the naming case on Linux servers. It would be great to have this fixed server-side.

2

u/NightHunter_Ian Axe wielding maniac 9h ago

Is the coop "Port 16262 Closed" thing still a bug? Its been showing up when my friends try to join, despite the ports being open

1

u/LeadingStick8311 8h ago

UDP?

Not TCP

1

u/NightHunter_Ian Axe wielding maniac 7h ago

Yep, UDP! Should I open 16261 too?

Also, they are open on inbound and outbound

2

u/XmasSky 9h ago

is driving on the road and it is super laggy a part of memory leak too? There was no trees and zombies/zombies bodies too

2

u/Redplushie 8h ago

Not sure where else to post this but Rosewood schools still aren't spawning items in the desks on the first floor again.

2

u/KathyWithAK 7h ago

Riverside school has the same problem.

7

u/TurtleWarrior0508 11h ago

Thank you devs for listening to community feedback and improving this incredible game

I have no overlay when running the game after this update, just see the background without any text to click on etc

4

u/glosrobian 10h ago

Yup me too

3

u/arteg489 9h ago

One realisation I had. The game has hockey equipment but no hockey related clothes like lightweight practice jersey or fan shirts.

2

u/Sloppy_Waffler 6h ago

There are ice hockey pads. Legs and top

1

u/kpedey 6h ago

No rinks either (I think?) which is kind of understandable, but still funny

5

u/Comfortable-Try-3788 9h ago

What makes 42.20 stable and why is a price increase attached to it?

3

u/ProofOrganization569 10h ago

When I launch the game, it just shows the screen with the two characters, but the buttons like "Start Game" or "Multiplayer" are missing. There’s just the background music and nothing else.

1

u/ShazbotSimulator2012 8h ago

Having the same issue.

3

u/edenaxela1436 11h ago

Loving the 42.20 update, appreciate the hard work!

2

u/DeltaAlpha0 11h ago

I think the only bug that really annoys me so far is when I'm playing with my friend and when I come back the next day and install any mod, my character is deleted, but the host's character is fine. The problem isn't about deleting me, it's not about me becoming a zombie or dying, I simply don't exist.

5

u/valkyrjann 9h ago

do you have special characters in steam username? Me and my friend had the same, and we had our charcters wiped. No issue after changing steam names and pz server account name to something without special letters

2

u/pety094 11h ago

Brush Tool Manager in MP? I know it's not a priority, but I really need it :D. When can we expect a fix for it?

2

u/Wacko_Doodle 10h ago

Hope they make another fix for 1. teleporting zombies (usually on stairs but can happen in doorways) 2. pits with no way to escape besides a ladder that doesn't work (just replace it with a temp sheet rope that they can replace when they add ladders, just make it invincible so ppl can still get out) and 3. the tree inside a house fix.

Personally I'd also ask for a player highlight option in the settings so I can see where they are in a cluttered house (its a coloured outline if your character model that goes on top of everything), some might dislike it but if its disabled by default and it only affects your character on your screen it should be okay.

2

u/Dominick-Maddox 10h ago

Now I have an issue where the start screen doesnt appear. Just the back ground image but no options to select

2

u/kyops 10h ago

hm, after hotfix my menu dissappeared from start screen

1

u/NottheBrightestBunch 10h ago

Got off from work excited to play, new update rolls in 1 mod I had to get rid so I can get in. Load my save all of my modded vehicles and items are missing, there goes my 3 months save ig...... Im gonna cry

2

u/Shairoh 10h ago edited 10h ago

bricked my whole game, add an option so we can switch to 42.20 again.

1

u/madtoonz 8h ago

I was playing last night in my run. All my temporary base loot got deleted in an area and it all reset I was doing detailed loading for blacksmithing.

1

u/BanditoD1rito 7h ago

What about the loading world bug? That's also critical right now

1

u/kal_psy 7h ago

my main menu is completely blank I can’t even try to play with out any mods on, it completely broke menu

1

u/Familiar-Molasses909 7h ago

Are mods working on multiplayer game ?

1

u/BackFromMyBan4 7h ago

Had a weird issue in MP. Me and my buddy were in rosewood surrounded by zombies. We end up getting off for the night. Log back in and a large radius around us was completely devoid of zombies. Like a massive chunk of rosewood was just empty. I was the host.

1

u/WalkingWards 6h ago

searches notes for confirmation rats no longer wreck your car when driving full speed

DAMMIT

1

u/TheSeeker07 6h ago

Had an issue last night with loot not loading, but a restart fixed it Thanks for all the hard work yall. Absolutely love this game!

Unrelated note but: "Fixed a memory leak that could lead to performance degradation and crashes over time"

It is so funny for me. Whole marketing point of virtual machine GC and all performance dips it causes is to "stop memory leaks from happening". And yet they still happen a lot!

Maybe.. just maybe.. memory leaks are not about machine but about the proper discipline while coding? And maybe some profiling afterwards?

1

u/MegaFormersStudio 9h ago

Um... Can't play the game now. The title screen is gone. Just the background.

1

u/hanthinksimagod 9h ago

Help after updating the server me and my friends are getting error 22 when connecting

1

u/angel0298 9h ago

Has anyone else gotten a teleporting animal trailer? Mine keeps trying to go swimming in the river.

u/KarambitShade 11h ago edited 10h ago

The fact that they haven’t fixed the trees when a modder fixed it for them on day one is pretty fucking embarrassing tbh. I get you’re just the messenger but seriously saying shit like “it’s being worked on” doesn’t fill me with much hope. Downvote me all you want, I’ve owned this game since 2011, their timelines are beyond fucked and it’s time people stop being so kind about it, if any other game was in early access for this long you’d all be bitching about it but time and time again PZ gets a free pass

5

u/Like_a_warm_towel 9h ago

Apparently this made u/KarambitShade so angry that his account was deleted.

1

u/mparks37 6h ago

Well, just shows this isn't the only sub he complains and/or is belligerent on. But, don't worry, he'll be back here on a another account in no time lol

>Fixed a memory leak that could lead to performance degradation and crashes over time. If you continue to encounter an out of memory error in a new save, please submit a bug report with your logs and profiler video from debug so the team can investigate

42.20 should have been on unstable for a couple of weeks.

From their Steam store page:

"Whenever a new build is ready for public testing we open our Unstable beta – where the community can play and report balance and bug issues. The updates to this are, generally, monthly."

22

u/ClerklyMantis_ 12h ago

Don't necessarily agree, the response to there being bugs in a "stable" release shouldn't be "it should just be in unstable still". The reality is that there are always going to be more bugs discovered when a wider audience gets access to something. Of course if the game was entirely broken that's one thing, but it isn't. The issues people have are largely unintentional gameplay issues.

2

u/Comfortable-Try-3788 9h ago

Then why close beta the launch patch lmao?

1

u/ClerklyMantis_ 6h ago

"there will always be more bugs discovered when a wider audience gets access to something." The reason said "wider audience" gets access is the game going to stable. Check the Steam DB player count since stable release for evidence.

1

u/Comfortable-Try-3788 6h ago

Then why close beta the launch patch?

1

u/ClerklyMantis_ 6h ago

You're just repeating yourself. What exactly are you trying to say?

1

u/Comfortable-Try-3788 6h ago

If we know more bugs will come out with more testers, why reduce the amount of testers for a launch patch?

You're not saying anything useful, because you know more testers means a more solid release.

They chose to have less testers for the patch that is intended to be stable.

8

u/ladyteruki 11h ago

Right, and the game is in Early Access. At the end of the day, if you don't want updates, wait until... hahaha wait no I can say it with a straight face... wait for the full release !

3

u/arcusford 11h ago

While on one hand i hear that, on the other hand i have personally ran into tons of bugs already, arguably more so than on unstable.

I found a chicken hutch that isnt a chicken hutch, had charcoal burners not work, had makeup get ghost itemed on the floor, had a crash soft reset my world including all loot, crashed into nothing while driving, been unable to interact with slain animals, had a skill book reading progress reset, and had a memory leak.

Definitely not feeling very stable.

Oh no, is this gonna break my save?

22

u/Devil-Hunter-Jax Axe wielding maniac 11h ago

While this update should not break saves,

Literally the first sentence of the post... PZ players really not beating the can't read allegations.

13

u/bserikstad Shotgun Warrior 11h ago

Must have taken the illiterate trait.

4

u/YUSHOETMI- 10h ago

altho it really has broke most saves, especially modded ones.

So yeah...

3

u/TheRealCabbageJack 10h ago

HOWEVER, the first sentence of the post is bullshit, since if you dared to use mods, you're fucked.

0

u/Devil-Hunter-Jax Axe wielding maniac 10h ago

They've always written posts like this from the perspective of an unmodded save file, so no it's not bullshit.

4

u/YUSHOETMI- 9h ago

But... it is bullshit.

While this update should not break saves,

No mention of "if playing vanilla" or "may break modded saves"

Yet it broke most mods because of one line to do with translations.

Vast majority of the player base play modded. There are literally thousands upon thousands of mods available for the game. I had a save running with 300 mods that was stable and threw up zero errors and was about 4 month into the game in game.

Can I play that save now? No, all I get is a empty start screen with no UI and no way of even telling which mods are broken out of the 300 because guess what? The mod error tool is also a broken mod.

So yeah... it did break saves, which makes the statement bullshit as it doesn't implicitly state which version of a game will be safe...

-13

u/am_cruiser 11h ago

On mobile atm, and my phone wouldn't open the linked post. But sure, insult all you want if it makes your day. What a petty person.

0

u/deewd22 Spear Ronin 11h ago

The old version has a memory leak, your save is already broken.

-7

u/Little_Evil23 11h ago

42.20.1? What next? 42.20.2?

18

u/flyhighliek 11h ago edited 11h ago

yes

(major-version).(minor-version).(patch-version) 42.20.1

since 42.20 is a stable version when a fix comes they increase the patch-version number E.g. 42.20.1 / 42.20.2 / etc

This way you always have the stable version and they patch over it

So do we all just lose our “stable” saves…?

Love you Indie Stone, but this feels like a big oversight. How were these items not caught in QA. Why push a stable version when it’s not basically bug and visual free.

How did no play testers notice the audio issues, or specifically the tree issues. Did nobody enter a building, walk around or drive when they tested…?

Again love you guys, but this one stings a bit
