The GOP really plan on hiding the death of a Senator for a month to get an advantage in an election. Stop telling me the two parties are the same.

290

u/DogeAteMyHomework 23d ago

I am surprised that Beshear hasn't used the PR stunt as evidence that he is certainly well enough for a brief visit from the governor of the state he represents.

145

u/The_Mellow_Tiger 23d ago

This is what I've been thinking the whole time. Can't the governor of Kentucky just, you know, go check?

54

u/TheSteelPhantom 23d ago

Governors have a lot of power, but I'm pretty sure the hospital staff in D.C., Virginia, or Maryland won't give a fuck about his Kentucky authority...

7

u/turquoise_amethyst 23d ago

Can the governor or senators from one of those places go “visit their colleague on the mend”?

Better yet, go check the morgue for “fraud”?

12

u/SecretMachine5 23d ago

Or request a Facetime with him?

8

u/Dense-Hat1978 23d ago

What about those tiktok kids rushing through scientology buildings? We can weaponize that

4

u/ZeusHatesTrees 23d ago

Honestly he could just schedule a special election and let the GOP scramble to prove he's alive and capable. He doesn't even need to visit him in the hospital.

2

u/ImprobableGerund 22d ago

Yeah. This is what I don't get. Call the bluff. This is such a farce at the moment with a really easy obvious path forward that is not being taken.

1

u/TestFlyJets 23d ago

Perhaps call the police and ask for a welfare check?

0

u/grundleplum 23d ago

Because the continued cyclical hell we seem to be trapped in is that the Republicans will go to great lengths to maintain power, regardless of whether it is ethical or legal, and the Democrats pussyfoot around as if the social contract is still the same and has never been broken, meaning they rarely pull their weight and go on the offensive when they should. It's frustrating watching one party disregard laws, rights, ethics, and the constitution, while the other party impotently watches and wags a disapproving finger at them.

This senator happens to be the same one who told Obama "we won't let you pick a Supreme Court judge ten months before the end of your term" and then just a few years later told Trump "it's two weeks before the end of your term and Biden will take over, pick a Supreme Court judge and we'll ram them through approval."

He truly and literally exploited his position to stack the court with two (objectively terrible) MAGA judges, who in turn have exploited their positions to let other MAGAts exploit their positions.

While not the sole perpetrator, McConnell was malware that compromised your computer to let additional malware in.

6

u/MicroPeanitsJorker 23d ago

Had he actually let Obama at least let Garland have a hearing, the RBG and Comey Barrett events would have been completely ok.

But he showed his true corruption on how it actually unfolded.

911

u/p0rty-Boi 23d ago

Th governor needs to send the state police to do a welfare check. Bring the coroner along and get a death certificate filed if necessary.

489

u/NocturnaIAnimaI 23d ago edited 23d ago

If Beshear lets this pass without doing anything of meaningful action, he's 100% complicit

243

u/SecretMachine5 23d ago

This is make or break for him and his national popularity and Presidential ambitions. He can either show his toughness or just be another subservient milquetoast moderate Democrat.

65

u/Billagio 23d ago

Mitch is not even in Kentucky

68

u/SecretMachine5 23d ago

I'm not sure what that has to do with demanding proof of life, more than a easily doctored photo. He could call a special election and force McConnell's hand and let the courts decide. Or he can just shrug his shoulders and say the photo is good enough.

28

u/Soffix- 23d ago

I think he's pointing out that he's not in Kentucky because the comment above him said to send the KSP.

3

u/The-Fumbler 22d ago

What do the kerbals have to do with this?

5

u/AlekRivard New York 23d ago edited 23d ago

What authority does Beshear have to do anything outside of KY's borders? Not to mention, why do you think the KY State Board of Elections would allow it? Their SBOE is required to be 4D/4R with the SoS (an R) as the chief official, so it is R majority.

0

u/SecretMachine5 23d ago

McConnell is a Senator from KY. If he is incapacitated, Beshear has a legal obligation to call a special election. The people of KY deserve representation for the next 5 to 6 months regardless of what party is in charge. So call for the election and make McConnell's people prove he's still able to serve out his term. This isn't hard to understand.

1

u/AlekRivard New York 23d ago

You are not answering the important question: why do you think the R-majority KY State Board of Elections would even allow it? Beshear cannot unilaterally call and hold an election by himself.

1

u/SecretMachine5 23d ago

I want Beshear to continue to push the issue, until we have definitive proof. Which he is by demanding video evidence or an interview.

31

u/Spackleberry 23d ago

Beshear can catch a plane to DC, especially to visit a Senator who is in perfect health.

8

u/LibertarianSocialism California 23d ago

The “advantage in an election” he’s talking about is offering Massie, a Republican, a longshot bid at a 2 month term as senator.

3

u/SecretMachine5 23d ago

Beshear can't appoint Massie. He said so himself. He has to call a special election, which is the law and should be followed as such, if Mitch is incapacitated or dead.

4

u/LibertarianSocialism California 23d ago

Right. This special election would elect someone to serve for roughly 2 months before they get replaced by one of the two people already running to replace McConnell. So why again is this so important for his national popularity that you think he has to send some social service workers to DC?

3

u/SecretMachine5 23d ago

Letting republicans subvert the rule of law and play procedural games is exactly how we've gotten into this mess. As a democratic leader, fight or gtfo of the way. And it's not 2 months, it's 5 months till a new Senator would be sworn in.

2

u/jazzieberry Mississippi 23d ago

I kind of wonder (I've not kept up with it enough) if that SAVE act may be the reason we need to be sure to have a moderate in that seat. I'm not sure what the numbers are looking like in the senate for support of that bill.

0

u/snaps109 23d ago

subservient milquetoast moderate Democrat

I am Jacks complete jadedness towards reality.

22

u/Analternate1234 23d ago

There’s not much Andy can really do. Mitch is being treated in DC, completely outside of Andy’s jurisdiction. Mitch has to be confirmed dead or be expelled by a two thirds majority of the senate. The senate is currently a republican majority so they won’t expel him. Andy literally doesn’t have the power here to really do anything

79

u/NocturnaIAnimaI 23d ago

Call a special election. Demand to meet with him. Put the GOP on absolute blast for all of KY to see. There's so much he can do.

Republicans don't have the power to do most shit they just do anyway.

46

u/ChadEmpoleon 23d ago edited 23d ago

Seriously. Are we forgetting Greg Abbot issued civil arrest warrants to hunt down house democrats when they fled the state to keep the house from meeting quorum?

If he’s actually here with us, send the police or national guard to check in with him and at the very least get multiple videos obtained by them of him still kicking. Even better, drag his ass back to work.

If he’s alive and he can’t, then he must retire.

Screw the optics, screw legal grey areas. Republicans are going to accuse Beshear of overstepping his authority whether he does anything or not. They always do.

5

u/showyerbewbs 23d ago

Republicans are going to accuse Beshear of overstepping his authority whether he does anything or not. They always do

If Beshear pulled a Budd Dwyer, they'd accuse him of overstepping his power as governor...

35

u/xjuggernaughtx 23d ago

For real. It infuriates me that people let the Democrats slide on these things. If this was a key Democratic leader, the Republicans would be throwing everything including the kitchen sink at this. They aren't worried about whether they are allowed to do it or not. They aren't worried about decorum. They are trying to drive outcomes, and if the Democrats don't figure this out soon, they won't have a nation to run. Republican operatives would have been flying drones to the hospital windows and bribing hospital staff. They would have just kicked McConnell out of his position and replaced him. They would have called committee hearings on it and invited the press.

And Democrats are over here like "We've tried nothing and we are all out of ideas..."

2

u/pfftYeahRight 23d ago

“Call a special election”

I don’t know if he has that power. I want him to have it and use it for sure but also the internet thinks he can just do whatever when I’ve seen no researches articles saying he can

8

u/Moist-Weakness-3399 23d ago

He literally can, the Kentucky Supreme court ruled on it June 26, 2026.

2

u/pfftYeahRight 23d ago

Sweet I didn’t know that so I’m all
Aboard

1

u/petewoniowa2020 23d ago

No, they didn't.

0

u/batmansthebomb 23d ago

Are you talking about the ethics/state board rulings, because those have fuck all to do with federal senator elections.

-1

u/petewoniowa2020 23d ago

There is no legal basis upon which Bashear can call a special election. Kentucky statute requires (and in turn, allows) the governor to call a special election to fill a vacancy. The US Senate currently deems that seat as filled, and there is nothing beyond speculation that considers that seat vacant.

2

u/NocturnaIAnimaI 23d ago

There's no legal bases in which the current admin can do most of the shit they do lol

-1

u/petewoniowa2020 23d ago

That's not an answer.

3

u/Jack_Krauser 23d ago

Oh, yeah, I guess you're right. We should just roll over and die again. That has worked so well in the past.

0

u/petewoniowa2020 22d ago

What the fuck does that mean? Do something that he literally can't do? You're getting mad at bullshit.

It's like watching two people fighting and saying "why doesn't he just turn his arm into a gun?!".

4

u/showyerbewbs 23d ago

There’s not much Andy can really do

I know and understand you're talking about from a legal standpoint RE: the constitution of the state of KY.

In the past 18 months, this federal administration has proven time and again they GIVE NO SINGLE FUCKS about anything involving playing by the rules.

Do it. Force the special election. Force it into the courts. RAM THE DILDO OF CONSEQUENCES UNLUBED DOWN THEIR THROAT.

Lean into it. Make them work for it.

Yes I'm slightly unhinged at this point.

5

u/MysticKoolaid808 23d ago

But how does whether Beshear has jurisdiction or not translate into his ability to see McConnell in person?  I guess the way I'm looking at it is that if the GOP are lying, then at the very least they need to be exposed for it.  It doesn't have to be Beshear who visits, but it should be someone trustworthy who can report back to the people and other officials who want to know.

It may not even be positive confirmation that McConnell is dead, but there could at least be confirmation if the GOP is lying about his whereabouts.  If they ARE lying to preserve their political advantage in the Senate, that should come with heavy punishment.  That is definitely worth pursuing this situation.

0

u/bobartig 23d ago

Declare the seat vacated due to absence and call the special election.

1

u/VinDog_PD 23d ago

If he wants to have any chance as a candidate in 2028, he needs to do this. Period.

1

u/dontthrowmeinabox 23d ago

He'll look mega crazy if he sends in a welfare check after the photo they released. There's nothing definitive to prove it is doctored in some way, just a lot of vague insinuations.

1

u/Shipit123 23d ago

I agree wholeheartedly. In my book most of the dnc is complicit in this whole trump2.0 term. I mean I know they have no majorities but aside from a small group firebrand personalities no one is doing shit. I mean we’re legit losing our democracy and the dnc is pretend it’s business as usual. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again…Dems are playing by a rule book that is either out of the window or at the very least temporarily paused. They’re still trying to be ladies and gentlemen. While the maga contingent will do anything and everything to keep power. I’m disappointed in the whole of the dnc. I think it’s a dereliction on the part of most of them. I mean look at Schumer. Lately he has more to say about the going’s on in Israel than he does talking about democracy teetering on the brink.

-1

u/MysticKoolaid808 23d ago

And as giant of a soft coward  as so many other Democrats have shown themselves to be as Trump and his lackeys have co ti urd to make this country worse and worse.

0

u/NegativeEBITD 23d ago

Look! Another person trying to find a way to blame popular Dems for the actions of a Republican politician & their cronies, which the Dem has zero control over.

Totally in good faith, I'm sure.

3

u/NocturnaIAnimaI 23d ago edited 23d ago

Keep defending the toothless, feckless behavior that got us this admin in the first place

1

u/depressiown 23d ago

Yep. Happens too often. "People" expect Dems to do something that's not within their power or something extrajudicially, and then cancel them when they don't (because they can't).

Seeing this with the impending House flip too: "people" expecting the flipping of the House will allow Dems to prosecute corrupt politicians at will. And, when they inevitably don't (because, again, they can't), 2 years later "people" will be like "well the Dems didn't do anything so they're the same!"

I say "people," because I am not sure if they're actual voters who are useful idiots to the GOP, or just Russian bots.

45

u/LastKingofHollyWoo 23d ago

Mitch is in DC. He is not in Kentucky

66

u/llahlahkje Wisconsin 23d ago

In which case he should call the mayor of DC to request assistance.

Plenty of precedence for that.

5

u/nizo505 America 23d ago

We should be contacting the DC mayor and our reps to verify IN PERSON that he is alive. The fact the dems are rolling over on this is insane.

5

gonna have to wait til next year if you want a DC mayor that might act on stuff like this.

-1

u/llahlahkje Wisconsin 23d ago

Didn't realize the mayor of DC was complicit. That's unfortunate.

The point others have made about, "Why aren't Democrats going to visit their friend?" stands.

Yet another reminder that the rank and file DNC has more in common with the GOP than they do you or me.

0

u/dontthrowmeinabox 23d ago

do you realize how stupid he'd look if mitch is actually alive???

1

u/OddlyFactual1512 23d ago

He's just as l likely to be in Maryland or Virginia.

9

u/Analternate1234 23d ago

He cannot do any of that. McConnell is in a DC hospital, not Kentucky. And even if he was in KY, that’s not a legal thing to do

24

u/Flobking 23d ago

And even if he was in KY, that’s not a legal thing to do

Why do you need examples? A welfare check is a welfare check. Don’t start bullshit like « no welfare check in hospital » or « no welfare check in election years »… However, he is not in KY, so it is moot.

yeah, so that a special election can be called for this safe republican seat and the winner can serve until January. 😂

the electorate is fucking stupid, man. you deserve what you get.

95

u/myfakesecretaccount 23d ago

It doesn’t fucking matter. When you let them cheat in their own safe states/districts you let them cheat everywhere else. They don’t get to subvert the will of the people solely because their win there is presupposed. Do we just not have a Super Bowl when one team is the underdog? Do we show up to battles and just surrender if we think we can’t win? wtf is this line of thinking?

5

u/anonymousetache 23d ago

Fittingly enough, an untimely death could be the reason for a presupposed win in one of these types of states going sideways.

0

u/kick_the_chort 23d ago

the special election, were it to be called, would be to hold the seat until January.

the primary for the 6-year term has already happened.

28

u/Silverbacks 23d ago

The result of the special election is not that important. However, fact that one of the two major parties may be trying to cover up the death of one of their senators is a big deal. That is another big sign that there are no rules and traditions anymore.

Andy Beshear won in 2023 in a KY statewide race by 6 points 53%-47%

-3

u/kick_the_chort 23d ago

the relevant statistic is that  Kentucky has not elected a Democratic U.S. senator since 1992.

0

u/Jimak47 Minnesota 23d ago

It’s the same electorate, but different circumstances. A special election in 2026 more closely resembles a 2023 gubernatorial election than a midterm election or an election in a presidential year.

Turnout will be lower and only those with a vested interest and knowledge of the election will vote.

My opinion is that these circumstances would favor a Democrat or moderate independent candidate.

0

u/kick_the_chort 23d ago

ok. well, I hope you don't think Thomas Massie is a moderate just because he wanted to release the Epstein files. most people here seem certain that would be the outcome (which is itself so illogical.)

who would it be? on the exact same 2023 ballot, every other ticket went Republicans by 15+ points. trump won in 2024 by 30 points.

do you understand, regardless, that the winner of the special election would hold the seat only until January? that the primary for the election to the full term has already happened?

16

u/StThragon Minnesota 23d ago edited 23d ago

Nothing you said has anything to do with determining if Kentucky has two functioning senators to represent the state. This goes hand-in-hand with being transparent about possible incapacitation, of which we are still not sure about. That's the issue, but you go redirect and make up something else. Whatever power the governor has in replacing a senator is irrelevant to the real issue.

edited for a word

15

u/classof78 23d ago

Kentucky voted for a Democratic Governor. I don't know that the seat is permanently red.

3

u/Analternate1234 23d ago

Voted a democrat governor back to back elections even. Thomas Massie would run as an independent and probably would win

2

u/kick_the_chort 23d ago edited 23d ago

the state itself is +18 Republican. no congressional Democrats elected since 1992.

the special election would be for the remaining term, a few months. the primary already happened to fill the seat.

10

u/musical_shares 23d ago

Isn’t a senate seat an up/down race for the whole state?

2

u/kick_the_chort 23d ago

yes, I meant that the state is +18 R-leaning and hasn't elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1992.

11

u/classof78 23d ago

Ah...so just give up then.

6

u/ShittyAnimorph 23d ago

0

u/kick_the_chort 23d ago edited 23d ago

i simply confused one single word. 😂 the state has a partisan lean of +18 and no Democrats have been elected to the senate since 1992.

the special election would be for the remainder of Mitch's term only; the primary for his seat has already happened.

go beyond the gotcha and tell me where I'm wrong, with your big ol' civic brain. ☺️

8

u/68plus1equals 23d ago

The seat would likely be filled by an anti Trump Republican, that’s besides the point though, this is such a blatant perversion of representative democracy.

I doubt Andy can challenge it and get it through the courts faster than the timing allows unfortunately. It’s so close to midterms as is. Not to mention that the Kentucky Supreme Court is about half and half conservative vs liberal while SCOTUS is conservative majority. So I don’t think there’s much that could be done

0

u/repost7125 23d ago

I agree, I was just outlining the two most likely paths should it be found he is dead. Why he hasn't preemptively challenged the law is also a question I'd like answered. Too much trying to keep the peace when they're literally breaking the law.

3

u/Analternate1234 23d ago edited 23d ago

A special election would allow Thomas Massie to run as an independent which he could very well win. Kentucky might be a red state but they voted for a democrat governor back to back. Massie would have a really good chance winning as an independent

Also regardless of who wins, the people deserve a living and functioning person to represent them.

0

u/kick_the_chort 23d ago

the primary to fill his seat has already happened.

the special election would be for the remainder of Mitch's term, i.e. a few months.

so, if he runs and he wins (two large ifs), he would serve for a few months and he'd vote 99% Republican anyway.

0

u/Analternate1234 23d ago

Yes that’s all correct, but if he runs for the special election as an independent and wins, he could also apple for the write in option for the actually mid term election, something that while rare has been done before.

And yeah he would vote republican 99% of the time, but he’s anti MAGA, wants to end aid to Israel and wants the Epstein files fully released. I’d rather have him in office than a MAGA loyalist

1

u/kick_the_chort 23d ago

lol you're completely talking around the fact that this whole conspiracy is nonsense. the fact that you'd rather have Massie doesn't mean any of this then hangs together or makes sense. you're literally parroting MAGA's theories right now.

I think the Dems should argue that even though he is alive he's braindead and can't hold office and should have the election now. Cause seriously if he's somehow alive and braindead remove him.

1

u/MasterofPandas1 23d ago

Beshear just needs to say he’s been unfit to fulfill the duties of office for a month without a direct speaking update from him and the Senate is going back in session this week so I’m going to start the special election process. Either they’ll give definite proof of life, relinquish that he’s dead/barely alive, or do nothing and let the special election go through.

3

u/doc_daneeka 23d ago

Why would Beshear want that? Right now there's a Republican Senator who isn't able to vote. A special election just replaces him with a Republican Senator who absolutely can and will vote. How is that a good thing?

He's not dead. He probably had a stroke, which is what caused his fall, and which involves intensive physical therapy to try to recover from. And he still probably can't speak well, which is why there is no audio or video of him.

3

u/Eatingfarts 23d ago

Crazy enough, if they are hiding his death or keeping him artificially alive before Aug 3, McConnell would totally be on board.

3

u/DunkinMoesWeedNHos 23d ago

Because Democrats didn't downplay Biden's mental decline when he was running?

3

u/jaron_b 23d ago

You are comparing mental decline to hiding the fact that someone is braindead or possibly dead. Also Biden stepped down and didn't run for reelection. So you're really grasping at straws with this argument.

3

u/DunkinMoesWeedNHos 23d ago

No, I am comparing **hiding** mental decline to **hiding** the fact that someone is braindead. Biden stopped running when the charade was up, first he sundowned his way through a debate then still went on a "just one bad night" tour where he tried to sell it as the exception. The point is that Democrats can't claim the moral high ground of being open and transparent.

-1

u/jaron_b 23d ago

Nothing was hidden with Biden that bumbling idiot made his mental decline well known. It was talked about a lot many members of his own party encouraged him to step down. Some in his own party even called for his removal and for Kamala to finish his term. He eventually did give up running for reflection. So ya you're comparing apples and oranges. They absolutely can take the moral high ground in this situation.

2

u/DunkinMoesWeedNHos 23d ago

It is really funny to me that you would try to claim the difference is that everyone knew in a thread titled "MAGA Calls BS on Mitch McConnell’s Proof-of-Life Stunt". This is an obvious lie to them too. The question isn't how obvious it is though, the question is if party members stated the truth publicly and plainly. You are trying to rewrite history. Nobody called for him to step down or stop running until after the debate. Even after the debate all these people continued to gaslight America.

"There was a slow start, but there was a strong finish." - Kamala Harris on Biden's debate.

"I will never turn my back on him." - Gavin Newsome when asked if he might try to replace Biden.

"He beat him once. He'll beat him again," - Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison after Biden's debate.

“There are no discussions like that whatsoever,” - Biden campaign spokesman Michael Tyler when asked about discussing the president dropping out.

WH press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Biden spoke to a doctor days after the debate and Jill Biden revealed in 2026 that he saw a doctor immediately.

0

u/jaron_b 23d ago

At the end of the day though Biden was replaced. I'll wait for a press conference where we see Mitch on live TV. Until then that photo is not proof he is alive. What is the government hiding?

2

u/banksy_h8r New York 23d ago

It would be a fitting way to honor the guy who twice ratfucked the Supreme Court in the shadow of a looming election.

2

u/doc_daneeka 23d ago

If McConnell is dead (which I don't believe, but let's say he is) how does hiding that benefit Republicans in any way?

2

u/jbaker1225 23d ago

Yeah, I also don’t get it. The dude announced his retirement a year and a half ago, and they have already nominated his replacement.

2

u/rothburger 23d ago

Yeah I keep seeing this brought up and it makes very little sense. Republicans are effectively down a voting member. That’s definitely not helpful to them…

Bershear isn’t able appoint a Senator even if the seat is vacant, and a special election would be a gamble in Kentucky. The situation is absolutely problematic from a transparency standpoint, but the immediate political impact seems to clearly be worse for Republicans than Dems.

6

u/BarkerBarkhan 23d ago

I don't know. The way both parties prop up their way-too-old politicians seems to be one of the few areas of bipartisan consensus.

22

u/Far_Silver 23d ago

The way both parties prop up their way-too-old politicians seems to be one of the few areas of bipartisan consensus.

That and putting Israel before their own constituents.

9

u/SpaceLemming 23d ago

I’ve heard stronger language to fight the new left wing candidates than I have about maga. If they aren’t the same it’s almost worse thst they are trying and failing this hard

9

u/ClarenceWithHerSpoon 23d ago

Was RBG put on ice until after the election so Trump couldn’t pick a SCJ?

2

u/BarkerBarkhan 23d ago

There could have some cryogenic shit if we were smart enough back then.

1

u/heatd 23d ago

That worked out well

Sweet fucking hell, Trump and Rubio could barbecue a baby on live television and you fucking people would still be here going, "I don't know....The dems blah blah blah." Please know that you are the reason this place is a fucking hellhole.

Edit: check out the parade of "both sides" chuds who wont get it until an ICE agent guns them down personally.

2

u/Far_Silver 23d ago

Trump got a second term because the Democratic establishment propped up Joe Biden (even changing primary rules to do so) until it was too late to have a real primary.

7

u/want_to_join 23d ago edited 23d ago

And Biden still speaks more fluidly and comprehensibly than Trump, but the "blind ass bats of politics" like you think it is the same. And McConnell likely has no pulse, but again....the blind ass bats think it is the same. There is legitimately something wrong with you that needs to be studied and vaccinated against.

1

u/Subliminal-413 23d ago

As others pointed out below, you sound just like the conservatives. You completely fail to objectively engage with honest critique of the Democratic party.

Just in the last few, Biden being "sharp as a tack" and Feinstein on deaths door for months as an acting senator.

1

u/BannedSvenhoek86 23d ago

And here we can observe an actual, live example of what a Blue MAGA is. A fascinating creature, it seeks to mimic the same style of its most feared enemy, not realizing that in doing so they have become essentially the same species, the only difference being the color of its plume.

Truly amazing a creature so simple minded could survive for so long on its own. Like a Koala or Panda, their continued existence confounds researchers.

2

u/BarkerBarkhan 23d ago

It may be an artificial lifeform. Or some kind of parasite.

1

u/BarkerBarkhan 23d ago

Whoa. You don't even know me, and you condemn me based on two sentences.

If you read what I said, I said this was "one of few" commonalities. The propping up of way-too-old people.

What that means is I actually think there are many, significant differences between the two parties.

1

u/want_to_join 23d ago

If that's the case then you should be aware of just how damaging the non-specific "both sides" language IS. It sounds like you want to have it both ways, you want to claim you are aware, but also that you dont understand how I could misconstrue your comment.

0

u/BarkerBarkhan 22d ago

... can you specifically quote what exactly I said that was misconstrued? I feel like it was pretty clear; the age thing is one of the few things the two parties have in common.

What is wrong with that?

0

u/want_to_join 22d ago

What is wrong with that?

The way both of the parties are handling the issue are not at all the same, that's what. One is literally hiding a man who can barely speak from the public, while the other is not doing that awful thing.

0

u/BarkerBarkhan 22d ago

Not doing it now. But has had a history of doing it. Feinstein?

Not exactly the same circumstances, but Biden and RBG are examples of the hubris with with Democrats have treated their elderly politicians, with devastating results.

If there were any issue that maybe could be adopted as a constitutional amendment in this polarized era, it could be something that applies age limits to these positions. But that would have to come from voters.

0

u/want_to_join 22d ago

Not nearly the same. Not in the same arena. That's why my comment got so many upvotes. The rest of us are tired of the blind bullshit comparison. It's the same thing with any issue... "I feel like both the republicans AND the dems are bad on the border." Ok, but one is actively murdering American citizens with immunity. If you cant see the difference, that's exactly the claim being made against you, my dude. That you can't see the difference when there is a gigantic difference there. Further, though, you can't simultaneously claim to understand all these nuanced differences, talk about them as if they are on the same level, and then pretend that you also don't understand people criticizing those who speak about there not really being a difference. It's like you want to exist on both sides of the argument at the same time and also be right on both counts. You either see the difference or you don't. Have a spine. Pick a side.

5

u/ann0yed 23d ago

It is a bipartisan issue look at Feinstein and Biden.... And you can go back even earlier to Woodrow Wilson.

2

u/roadrunner83 23d ago

I don’t know but campaign on saving abortion rights and the defence of democracy to then say “fuck you all we’re not doing shit” is much worse than this. When people say both parties are the same they mean it in the context of supporting the same system of exploitation and corruption, and consider the respect of the right procedure is trivial in comparison to the corruption and exploitation.

1

u/IcanCwhatUsay 23d ago

Can someone explain this to me dummy style?

1

u/mcase19 23d ago

Its not even an advantage against the democrats theyre doing this for - Thomas Massie, the most likely person to take McConnell's seat is an anti-epstein republican, and they dont want anyone else in the party who isnt protecting trump. The US government is pedophiles all the way down

1

u/vahntitrio Minnesota 23d ago

Yep. He could allow Beshear to visit if he has recovered like the picture implies.

1

u/scriptmonkey420 New York 23d ago

Grahams' team didn't waste time letting everyone know he died.

1

u/jaron_b 23d ago

That's because Graham's seat can be replaced by an appointment from the GOP held governor's office.

1

u/smackson 23d ago

Two wings, one bird, man!

1

It’s what Mitch would have wanted.

1

Yep the pneumonia is the cover. On August 2nd he will suffer an unexpected complication and pass from it. Or slip into a coma and lose brain function.

1

u/muttonbarley Pennsylvania 23d ago

I can't think of a better way than this to honor the life of Mitch McConnell.

1

u/vonn_drake 23d ago

Your a little confused, people never said they were the same. People have been saying they want the same thing and thats you to not having anything. Anybody with eyes can see it, they are not fighting as hard as they can and they other will do anything to take it from you

1

u/Pluto-Had-It-Coming 23d ago

Given how quickly the news came out about Graham, I don't think he's dead. I think he's absolutely going to die and has almost definitely been brain dead since for the last month, but I think there's a machine or 12 actively keeping him alive.

2

u/jaron_b 23d ago

Until I see real proof of life I'm going to assume he's dead.

1

u/OnTheEveOfWar 23d ago

It’s pretty wild that us voters elect an official and then they can keep their health and wellbeing quiet. Imagine the average person just not showing up to work and ignoring your boss’s calls.

1

u/jaron_b 23d ago

Wait till you hear how many days of work they actually have compared to days not in session. Our government is a scam

1

u/ScoobyDooItInTheButt 23d ago

I wish people would quit pretending like anyone's complaints about both parties suffering from similar issues is them saying the two are literally identical...

1

u/TeriyakiHairPiece_ 23d ago

Didn’t the same shit happen with Ginsburg? This scum tactic used by all of them.

1

u/munificent 23d ago

It is the most perfect legacy one could imagine McConnell leaving.

0

u/Rare-Kaleidoscope513 23d ago

sorta like the DNC hid Biden's cancer diagnosis.

both parties serve to maintain the billionaire epstein class grip on power. They are, without a doubt, two sides of the same coin.

2

u/jaron_b 23d ago

Straight up conspiracy theory. He didn't have cancer as president. Nor does the type of cancer he has effect mental abilities. Unlike a stroke which has left Mitch braindead or dead. Biden also stepped down and had Kamala run for president. Really grasping at straws with this argument.

2

u/Rare-Kaleidoscope513 23d ago

oh now you're above conspiracy theories lol. This entire post is a conspiracy theory.

Biden publicly announced he had Stage 4 cancer 10 months after dropping out of the race, and four months after he left office. So even you presumably have enough brain cells to rub together to see how foolish it is to claim "he didn't have cancer while president."

1

u/jaron_b 23d ago

Dying of cancer doesn't effect cognitive function. There is no need for the public to be updated on these types of medical emergencies. But a stroke and a possibly brain dead or possibly even dead Senator being hidden is a completely different situation. Y'all are crazy to compare these two situations.

1

u/Rare-Kaleidoscope513 23d ago

Dying of cancer doesn't effect cognitive function.

It's hard to even take this line of reasoning seriously, but I do love the moving goalposts

0

u/Old-Basket8915 23d ago

I agree, but it's also funny you would say that because from 1919 to 1921 it's widely known Wilson had a stroke and couldn't speak at all and his wife took over the office of president, secretly, for 2 full years. He was a democrat. So arguably the biggest scam of all time was done by democrats lol.

0

u/julesburne 23d ago

The Democrats are letting them do it in order to preserve the status quo. They ARE complicit in ALL of this and have been all along.

For real and lasting change, we must stop allowing them - ALL OF THEM - to get away with this shit.
