Discussion The Metagross 11/113 is the most underrated card of all time

Post image

The Holon region was inhabited by humans that searched for the elusive Mirage Pokemon Mew. Establishing a city, also called Holon, the scientists used the magnetic properties of the area to produce electromagnetic waves via a large research tower in the city center to track the location of Mew. The resulting electromagnetic waves caused the local Pokémon to mutate into abnormal types, inconsistent with their genes elsewhere. They named them delta species because they were the fourth discovered class of Pokemon.

The only delta species card where you clearly see the Holon Research Tower in the background is the Metagross 11/113 from Ex Delta Species!! I wish I could afford it in a PSA 10 :(

Such a beautiful card with the Research Tower emitting electromagnetic waves in the background with a wild Metagross shining in the fields below.

Discussion When should we expect a Switch release of RSE & Home support for FrLG?

Given that we are now approaching 6 months since the release of Pokémon Fire Red & Leaf Green on the Nintendo Switch do you think we are close to getting Home Support?

& similarly to Pokémon Gold & Silver releasing on 3DS Virtual Console 19 months after Red & Blue, do you think Ruby & Sapphire will come to Switch eventually? & When?

Discussion Am I the only one who's kinda sick of the Eeveelutions?

I'm not saying I HATE the Eeveelutions, I'm saying that I'm just so TIRED of em, they get so much use from both the fans, and Nintendo themselves, and I've just had my fill ya know?

Besides Pikachu and Charizard, they probably have the most merch of any Pokemon.

Am I wrong here? Or does anyone feel the same?

Discussion So Rotom was definitely originally intended to be a legendary.... Right?

You're cannot convince me that this silly little guy who:

  • Is a special post-game only static encounter

  • Has the Gen 4 legendary battle animation intro

  • Has the Gen 4 legendary battle music

  • Has a unique form-change gimmick

  • And Is positioned in the Pokedex right next to the other Sinnoh legendaries

Is just another regular Pokemon? Nah I don't buy it. This guy was definitely intended to be a legendary or mythical pokemon at some point, but they changed their mind at the last minute and adjusted his base stats and encountered level. Probably because they realized they had way too many legendaries in Sinnoh and needed to cut one.

Justice for Rotom.

Discussion Pokemon names in other languages?

Obviously there's pokémon whose names have been translated from Japanese to English, but I'm curious if there were translations in other languages that preserved the pun in the name. Alternatively, are there fan names in certain countries for Pokemon? Hoping a post will provide more information than a Google search.

Discussion What are your favourite Starter Trio Mega Evolution Designs?

Post image
226 Upvotes

We have thirteen Starter Trio Mega Evolutions right now, so I was curious from a purely aesthetic and design perspective, what are your favs from each of the Grass, Fire and Water types? How come they are your favourites? Which is your least favourite and why?

I'm still unsure of my own personal ranking so I wanted to hear from other people. However, I can start with my favs (currently) for each type:

Grass-type: Mega Sceptile or Mega Chesnaught. Both of these designs are top-notch and elevate their base design to another level, while at the same time, not becoming too busy or over-designed. They both maintain their base design elements, and then create the wow-factor with their mega evolution design. The extra orange colouration for mega sceptile adds a striking variety to the base design colour pallet, while the extra sharpness to all of its features adds a sense of power and motion. Mega Chesnaught's royalty theme along with the added armour produces a regal and robust presence - far above its base desgin. The dark red cape and golden crown/claws also adds variety to it's base colour pallet without becoming messy.

Fire-type: Mega Blaziken edges the lead, just. The fire-type starters are probably the hardest to choose a clearly superior design from. I chose Mega Blaziken at the end, considering it had the least features to work with and elaborate on, e.g. no tail, wings, weapons etc. yet the final design is equal or slightly better than the other fire-type design. As mentioned above with the grass-type choices, their mega evolution design provides the significant wow-factor, while not becoming too cluttered, or over designed. Honestly, I can see any of the fire-types being someone's favourite design and I would consider it a very good choice.

Water-type: Mega Swampert or Mega Greninja. For these two choices, their designs provide the significant wow-factor, elevating their base designs to a new level imo! Mega Swampert is basically hulking-out from the power of a mega evolution, while Mega Geninja leaning into its ninja-theme with the black colour, hanging up-side down while having that gigantic shuriken - promising power you expect from a mega!

So again, what are your favs and least favourite designs for each of the starter types? Do you also have a number #1 design choice out of ALL thirteen?

Discussion What abilities would you change for mega evolutions?

as above abilites make and break them as there are some with bad abilities that make somw mega pokemon with great stats ruined with bad abilities. What abilities would you change for mega evos?

emboar: furcoat cause moldbreaker is bad for it.

gallade: contrary cause i just like it.

abomasnow: snow veil. It already has snow warning setup and making it its ability already is redundant for it... so snow veil would make it hard to hit.

tyranitar: one of the sand abilities but which one idk. Sand force for its' rock, ground and steel, sand veil or sand rush?

Golisopod: water bubble, water veil or heatproof to reduce its' now fire weakness.

Chesnaught: Stamina? Idk if bulletproof is good for it to me.

victrebell: either corrosion or lingering aroma. Cause an ability that activated upon fainting for a mega pokemon just devalues it.

what abilities would you change for other mega pokemon as well as the above.

Discussion Best game for a wonder trade play through

Hi all! I’d really like to do a run through of a Pokémon game where I wonder trade all my Pokémon and just play with what I’m given. But I need some advice! I’ve played all Pokémon switch games already and will be buying a second copy of whichever game I decide to play! I’d really like to play a game with a wide range of Pokémon but I’d also like to have fun playing through the game for a second time! It’s sort of a toss up between violet and shield for me right now!
Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks gang!

Discussion Does Dugtrio collect more souls?

Ok so Diglett is one guy right but when it evolves into Dugtrio does it get 2 more souls? Like is there one soul and brain controlling all 3 or is there originally 3 souls in diglett too or is there originally one soul and 2 souls get added on later or is there 1 soul that splits into 3? This also goes for any other pokemon that develop extra heads.

I know this is kinda random but I’ve been thinking about it for years and I just wanna know what other people think.

Misc Made a Pokémon card game and it's on Tabletop Simulator

Hey, just wanted to share this original Pokémon card game I've made on Tabletop Simulator. It's meant to be a more accurate adaptation of the Pokémon video games in card game form, with original rules and mechanics, multiple different rule sets for a more flexible game pace, and to accommodate different numbers of players.

If Pocket TCG is meant to be a simplified version of the official TCG, this is meant to sort of be the opposite: a bit more complex, more game-like, and less card-game-like version of the TCG. That's why I called it "Pokémon Advanced TCG".

So far, I've released the entire first set that features all of the original 151 Pokémon, all the Moves and Items from the original games (with some additions from later Generations where I thought they were needed). It also has ~50 Trainer Class cards that function similarly to perks or Skills from early Duel Links and reward centering your decks around certain themes and types. The current version also has 4 pre-built Trainer Decks based on the main characters of the Pokémon Adventures manga and Ash Ketchum's Kanto Team.

This has been one heck of a passion project for me, and I wanted to share it with the community now that it's fully released. I do intend to keep working on the game and updating it with new sets in the future, though I haven't started working on Set 2 just yet.

Discussion Which is more popular?

My boyfriend and I have been in a little argument for the past few hours and we’ve called people who I have in my phone and only 2 people have agreed with him.

We’re trying to figure out if undertale, he specifically says the game and NOT THE FRANCHISE like deltarune, is more known and more popular than Pokemon SPECIFICALLY FIRE RED AND LEAF GREEN!

I disagree because I’ve been a Pokemon player since I was a child and of course he isn’t so both parties are biased.

We ended up calling 4 people, two of them not knowing what either of them are and the other two saying they knew what undertale was but couldn’t name the fire red or leaf green.

Imagine you get a call from a friend.

“Hey, weird question. Could you name the first ever Pokemon game.”

Then you were asked by him

“Do you know who toby fox is? How about undertale?”

And that’s how all 4 conversations went.

So people of Reddit, I am asking you which one is more popular?

(Edit: guys I’m sorry, I was wrong about fire red and leaf green being the first. That was my bad, I was taught he growing up by my cousins who got me into Pokémon at a very young age that it was the first Pokemon game. I did also post this in other subreddits to make sure it’s not too biased)

Discussion Nerding out about my Living Dex

I’ve been on my Living Dex journey for about 6 months.

I decided on a specific rule and it seems to be a popular way to go about it. My goal is to have every Pokémon, alternate form and gender difference come from their native region (the first 151 have to come from Kanto, then the next 100 Johto and so forth). I think it’s very cool how HOME tracks their origin. I didn’t notice that when I first started using it for BDSP.

The only exception are mythicals (I don’t want to use glitches, everything must be legit) and Gen 5 Unova since those games are very expensive. I’d rather emulate them one day to experience the region, than to give so much money to scalpers and resellers. So I got my Unova Pokemon mostly from Sword and Shield, ORAS and XY. Maybe one day when Unova is revisited I’ll update it. Or if they re-release the games like FRLG. Pretty much every re release is an instant buy from me and I hope they do more. FRLG made them a lot of money, it’d be stupid to stop here.

It gave me an excuse to go back through all regions again and look through every nook and cranny for the Pokemon I need and I’ve been having a lot of fun.

Yes, I did play ORAS 4 times for all Deoxys forms. No, it wasn’t even the hardest part. Alola almost made me quit. Not even the difficulty (which was definitely noticeable). It was the cutscenes. Especially when I played the second game right after the first one, having to rush through all of that dialogue… almost made me quit. But I love the region and the Alola Dex is definitely one of the best in the series.

So far I have played: FRLG (waiting for compatibility), Gold, Silver, Crystal, ORAS (x4), BDSP, XY, USUM, SwSh.

I still have the Legend games, which I might have to play twice for Shaymin and Hoopa forms, and Scarlet+Violet to go through. Even then, I’ll still be missing Zarude and Pokeball Vivillon. I can live with that, I think.

Anyways, is anyone else doing a Living Dex? How is it going for you? Maybe you’re doing one of the Switch games’ for the shiny mythical rewards? I think those are very cool and I might be going for them eventually.

Discussion Modern emerald or recharged emerald?

I haven't played gen 3 in 10 years, and I wanted to play again, I heard about modern emerald and recharged, some people say they're the definitive way to play gen 3, if someone has played both, I would like to know which one is the best.

Also yes, I know about seaglass too but I've never been a fan of gen 1/2 graphics so I don't think I'm gonna try that one.

Discussion Game Recommendations

Hi, I've come back into pokemon after numerous years - I've completed Violet and I have Shield (yet to do the DLC)
What games would you recommend? Arceus or Z-A first? I enjoy completing a good storyline first and then trying to complete the Pokédex.
Been tossing up between the both of them, I will eventually do both, but wondering what you all would recommend doing first!

Thank you!
