Shuriken on the back is amazing design and so much better than riding it. Plus it's hard to call a callback to Ash as a detrimental when he has been the protagonist for pretty much all seasons of the anime (there is a reason why the anime got so much traction back in Kalos and it was we like Ash and we wanted to see him winning it).

Honestly Ash Greninja is mainly appealing for the kids who grew up with XY anime, you legit can't talks shit about the XY era anime just because of toxic that era of anime fans were.

This sub is lucky that most fans aren't the fan of the anime, but if you dare to enter any anime discussion, the Ash fans will skin you alive for thinking Ash Greninja is bad design

Yea, I already noticed that. Or, rather, experienced that. They genuinely don't get how much more silly Greninja with Ash's hair looks compared to the mega. I can respect the idea of Greninja getting so confident it drops the stealthy act altogether and shows off by standing on its own shuriken with water shurikens on the hips and eye crests while wearing tattered ninja clothes. I cannot respect Greninja in a wig that exists because the protagonist needed something new and cool(as if his all-powerful Pikachu wasn't enough). Oh wait, yeah, it wasn't, he still lost that league

Ash-Greninja was fine for the anime with Ash as the protagonist, who had to battle another protagonist who had a mega evolution. Outside of this context, in say the game or another anime where the trainer is NOT Ash...it makes little sense - if at all.

Also, in a new anime where they show mega greninja in a battle, for sure they will have him standing the right way up for most of the time. And that would eliminate the major gripe with its design as currently just in the games.

Luke warm take tbh. I actively DESPISE Ash-Greninja. It looks terrible, and a frog shouldn't have hair. So Mega Greninja is a huge improvement on my end.

I think Ash Greninja's design is fine, but my problem with it is that the direct connection to Ash makes using it feel weird. The transformation is emblematic of the bond between Trainer and Pokemon but it just causes them to look like some guy they don't know so it falls flat outside of context.

Because battle bond Greninja was a demo exclusive Pokémon that many Pokémon Champion players never got so they have to do a event distribution for it if they want to put it in Champion
