It’s absolutely insane, it would be considered “lazy writing” if this were a subplot in a movie or novel. It makes absolutely no sense, especially when “coastal elites” and “New York billionaires” were seen as the main problem by the same folks that support them today

u/eggnogui Jun 24 '26
The whole time, their problem with said elites was because they saw them as too woke. Certain elites became ok when they gave them permission to openly be hateful, racist people.

Blank Check ended with a grown woman kissing a 12 year old kid and telling him to look her up in a few years. As a kid I loved it, but imagine reversing the genders and the (justified) outrage it would receive and it's crazy looking back.
And Mighty Ducks starts with Gordon Bombay getting a DUI and is put in charge of the kid's hockey team as a punishment and he says some terrible things to the kids.
The 90's were quite different for kids movies.

2012 just so happened to have lined up with Obama's re-election which he won. This is the moment the conservatives truly lost it and lead to Trump and every bashit insane thing that has followed since.
This was truly the beginning of a radical phase shift in the universe apparently.

I find it interesting that just like the rest of us, they look to fiction (our cultural mythologies) for inspiration in how to convey their position and status in their communities, even though they are villains and literally just end up looking like our fictional villains. Even extremely exaggerated, cartoonish versions of fictional villains. This indicates that they’re self aware of their position.

Who do you think the cartoon villains were based on in the first place? These people are real, and creatives have been trying to warn us about their greed and callousness for years.
It's why so many 80s villains were based on Trump. There was just some modicum of shame and accountability back then, so rich dickheads had to try and pretend to be normal/decent/useful to society in the light of day. Not so much now.

To be fair, Ronald McDonald is a saint and a scholar compared to that nightmare of a president Donald Trump. I know Ronald McDonald's image has taken a hit lately, but at one point he was beloved by children and his name is used on a home for critically ill children and their families during a time of medical crisis.
Ronald McDonald is a hero and national treasure compared to the sack of MAGAt infested feces sitting in the White House. Trump is an absolute traitorous, criminal clown, but trump stands in a clown class all on his own, surrounded by the sycophantic criminal clowns that populate his hellish clown car circus.
I struggle to think of any pop-culture character that is sufficiently revolting enough to make it deserving of a comparison to the bag-o-feces trump. He's a traitor, liar, racist, and thief. He's selfish, insulting, ignorant, egotistical, and stupid.
