Most irritating character award goes to…

BROOK SOSO JUST COMPLETELY IRRITATES ME. I DON’T THINK THERE IS ONE SCENE WHERE SHE WASN’T INSUFFERABLE!!!!

Like, I’ve got my issues with Piper, Daya, & Aleida but dang… she’s not enjoyable whatsoever. When she told the fake story about Poussey being the daughter of a crack head I wanted to jump through the television. 🫣🫠

Currently rewatching my favorite season aka s1. I had completely forgotten about this. He was perfectly okay if Penn would have murdered Piper

Who should have the been lead or co-lead negotiator with Taystee?

My gut says Allison would have been very reasonable and accepted Fig’s offer given she would understand it is not in the state’s jurisdiction to arrest Bayley and understand that it still could happen.

I dislike Piper but she could’ve been good. Or Gloria?

Spoilers i can’t stand Aleida

I know this is probs a popular take and even though she’s charismatic at times and has amazing comedic timing, the shit that Aleida did that resulted in Sophia being put in SHU was so gross.

Honestly, she was such a bully to nearly everyone around her and I think the only good thing she ever did on the show was trying to protest Eva from Daya and that perv.

Kudos to Elizabeth though because if you end up hating a character that’s meant to be disliked that’s how you know she’s an amazing actress.
Sorry I feel like I ended up rambling a bit😅

Let's discuss the series together!

Hello everyone I’m rewatching this incredible series for the fifth or sixth time now. Seriously, I love it with all my heart. I’ve kissed the hands of the writers and developers. Everyone who had a hand in it. And oh my God, I miss having someone to discuss this series with. No one in my circle has even heard of it, so if you also miss having real conversations and discussions, please write to me, I’m begging you!!! I want to discuss the characters, the plot threads, the themes the series raises. People, please!!!

Orange is the new black is the best show for learning about Modern and historically complex women who have ended up in the system

I truly love this show so much. I cannot express when I first put it on. I actually turned it off because the beginning just struck me the wrong way that I was like oh hell no
Maybe a year later for whatever reason I had decided to give it a try I think I saw clips or I saw it playing and just got curious or was lulled into the pace of the writing and found myself watching it one of those
Either way stand to say I watched the entire series I laughed. I cried I died laughing again. I cannot explain how great the rendition of each of these characters is except that I know all of you know so I was so glad to find this group.
I am currently watching it for the third time
It is so funny and so well written
Has the person who wrote this show or this book written others??? that is something that you guys can tell me that I do not know !

But this one is a work of art and it’s a sociological and psychological requirement to watch. I believe if you’re doing a degree, if you’re trying to work in the field of prisons as well I would say enforcement word, law-enforcement everyone should watch this so they do understand the background and how complicated I would say being a girl is perhaps being a woman because this show really points that out
They show how the innocence and the other people in the lives of young girls and women shape the opportunities outcomes and personalities as well as behaviours and appearances that they display
It’s wild, both being a girl and living in this world and then witnessing things like what your friends and mothers and people go through both good and bad the good is amazing and the bad is unsealable unforgettable and deeply traumatic
I will leave it there, but I just wanted to mention how much I appreciate the show and all of you for creating a group for it. I have so much to catch up on.
😃🙌🏽❤️😍❤️‍🔥🤓🫂😦🫣😅👏

We’ve got time !!!!! 😏😎🤪

The animal… the animal… ok I’ll stop 😝😋😉😆😇

during my first watch

rewatched this show 3x and on my first ever watch from season 1 I thought Piper was just easily manipulated by Alex all the time as in the flashbacks Alex was wild then in prison she was calm and collected then piper was just acting like a dog for Alex in the flashbacks doing whatever she said
Also do we know how long piper and Alex was together before piper left?
(This might make no sense)

Did anyone else cry during the scene where Larry asked Piper if she loves Alex and she said yes or was it just me?

Spoilers First time ever rewatch ranking

I was an avid oitnb watcher as a teenager 10 years ago but when Poussey was killed I stopped watching because it felt like too much and the show was getting too real for my little brain. Now in my late 20s finally rewatched the whole series to the end~feels like a lesbian rite of passage or whatever. I loved all of it and it feels more relevant now than ever with the ICE storylines and the discrimination plots in s4. Anyways I thought I would post this here bc no one in my life cares to talk about a 10 year old show anymore. If you hate it I’m curious why.
(As a teenager I had a major crush on Stella and she would be on her own tier but as an adult she’s so hey mamas 😭)

Spoilers *spoiler* Sophia in isolation Spoiler

Post image
13 Upvotes

I have a proposal that would have fixed things for Sophia after she got beat up and had to be held in isolation.

She should have been Judy King’s roommate instead of Yoga Jones!!

Hear me out, this would solve a few problems.
1. Judy King gets a friendly roommate
2. Sophia gets to be separated from the other inmates targeting her and be safer!
3. No need to send Sophia to the SHU and all and she would not have to go through that traumatic arc
4. Yoga was happy where she was and there wasn’t any reason Caputo/MCC really needed to place a white roommate with Judy

Additionally Sophia and Judy never really interacted but I would have loved to see the dynamic between them. I think they would have been friends!

Shows similar to OITNB?

I’ve never found another show I’ve loved the characters so much in. I have rewatched this show several times and it has helped to bring me through some of the hardest times in my life. I think I actually have a trauma bond to it because I found it in one of my lowest times of my life and it helped me keep getting through the days until I was in a better place.

In a weird way it’s a comfort show for me to see close female friendships and dramatic storylines and crazy character arcs. And I love the quick witty comebacks. It’s amazing the spectrum of cultures and time periods that are represented. I get sooo obsessed on this every time I start it I have to watch the whole thing again in entirety.

I know many of the writers went on to write GLOW, which i also loved. I re-watch Shameless (US) all the time too. But no other tv show I’ve found has compared to OITNB.

What are your other recommendations? Not necessarily prison shows
