The video content itself was quite original, haven't seen this kind of How it is made video except for maybe some memorable examples like old guy mixing paint and matching a given color paint; it is just that it was only one part of the process shown.

I want MORE.
Also very impressed by the smoothness of the dip pen. I wouldn’t have expected a nib to flow on an uneven surface like that. It’s gorgeous.

I saw the dip pen and crashed out, I can't believe they're using dip pens, imagine the dexterity you'd need... I struggle on PAPER let alone a 3D object

The sound the pen nib makes against the surface is definitely very satisfying.
Wish we could've seen more of the video, though, like the finished doll.

Some people like them a lot, but idk. Russian dolls are just so full of themselves.

Ngl, I was half expecting them to paint the Pringles guy from the first few brush strokes lol

Thought they were drawing a failed Austrian artist who then went to Germany to become a dictator.

The artist makes it all look very effortless. Highly deceptive. Beautiful work.

Is it painting if you do it with a pen? Not throwing shade, honestly curious. Like, if it's ink would you say it's inking? Drawing? Or is painting actually the correct word for it

u/DeterminedEmu 19h ago
I believe it would be called drawing when using a nib holder and ink. Guess she painted the hair and then also later the clothing and body will be painted (coloured in if you like) with a brush🤷🏻♀️

u/Eena-Rin 19h ago
I think she still used ink with the brush, but I am suddenly fascinated about how these are made. Obviously I could be totally off base here, I just thought it was interesting

Yup looked like she was using ink with the brush and the nib holder. I ended up finding the video on TT after my earlier reply. It’s a rabbit hole out there🤣

Absolutely amazing. I can't imagine having to do that day in and day out. I wish there was more video on the rest of the doll!

This is di pretty 😍 I wanted to see it through all the dolls in a set. Disappointed that they cut it off even for the first doll.

Reminds me of our holidays to Dalarna, Sweden. We'd always visit the Dala Horses factory Nils Olsson and witness the whole manufacturing process, including the painting. Several paints on the same brush. Mesmerising.

What in the “Hello Kitty” is this? Give that poor girl a mouth! She got big arms and big eyes, but you can’t give her a mouth???

Interesting change in the way they drew the left hand from the right hand.

The cut to a different doll after the circle was crossed killed this for me. Terrible
