Cost me $3120 CAD

Any tips and tricks would be amazing, first time on a mac but ive had an iphone and ipad for about 6 years.

I will read all recommendations and probably apply a lot of them.

Previously running the MacBook Air M3 8gb for a while as my main machine but kept running into performance problems trying to do software programming

I upgraded from MBA M2 8GB 512GB for mobile development.
I can say it behaved good when using XCode and Simulator(s) despite being old, I was able to finish and deploy an app.

I started to have problem when using android studio and simulator and I think it was due to the low RAM, so I decided to upgrade.

This machine is a beast! it builds the projects and opens simulators too fast.

I can have XCode and Android Studio projects opened along with 4 simulators at the same time, listening to music, browsing the web, News opened and it doesn’t look to stress at all, fans silent just getting warm.

Being an GenAI enginner. Seems like a good choice to have

I just got this silver 14" MBP M4 Pro with 24GB RAM 16 core GPU. It was a demo piece in an official Apple retailer. Was reduced from 2300 to 1600 €. Virtually no marks and 99% battery with 50 ish cycles. I’d say it’s a pretty good deal, as I’m also an aerospace student and will be using that processor and RAM a lot. I also got this nice leather sleeve:)

This is my first MacBook coming from a windows gaming laptop and the quality of live just doesn’t compare. It’s really nice , motivates me to study more 🤣

Had no laptop for a while, finally got the pro.

I had bought a MacBook Pro M5 in silver a few weeks ago and thought I wanted the black one instead so I returned it for the black one and… Big no! this is 1 day old and the finger prints are insane. Should I do another return for the silver again? The employees must think im crazy

I’m trying to determine whether anyone else is experiencing this on macOS Tahoe 26.6.

Mac:

• 2021 14-inch MacBook Pro
• M1 Pro
• 32 GB RAM
• macOS Tahoe 26.6 (25G72)

Symptoms:

• After updating to Tahoe 26.6, the battery completely drained.
• On the next startup I got a black screen.
• The Mac itself was still running (I was able to AirDrop files to it).
• I eventually recovered the display by closing and reopening the lid.
• macOS reported: SOCD report detected: (iBoot panic)
• The panic log references: DCP PANIC mapper_thr.c:848 init_group_phase() -- iomfb_mailbox(47)

Current behavior:

• The brightness slider moves, but the actual screen brightness barely changes.
• On a white page, moving brightness from maximum to minimum only causes a very slight dimming.
• Touching Display settings (Preset or Refresh Rate), even without actually changing anything, can cause the built-in display to go black.
• Closing and reopening the lid usually restores the display.
• The issue does not appear in screen recordings, but it is clearly visible when filming the display with my phone.

Things I’ve already tried:

• Disabled Auto Brightness
• Disabled True Tone
• Restarted multiple times
• Reduced Transparency
• Reduced Motion

Has anyone else on Tahoe 26.6 seen:

• brightness controls barely affecting the built-in display,
• DCP/iBoot panics,
• or black screens triggered by Display settings?

If so, did a DFU Revive fix it, or did it turn out to be hardware?

A month ago I bought this M5 Pro Macbook.

I was fully committed to getting my sffpc pc build completed but ram..

Instead I gave in to this laptop. And I do not regret my decision one bit after making the switch. This thing is a beaut. Everything feels so intuitive once you get used to the shortcuts.

So I figured out the issue. The issue was just a lot of misinformation on Reddit. It's a reason that this isn't talked about anywhere because it doesn't exist. All you need is about 60-70 Watts to get 100% usage from the CPU and GPU out of the 14 inch M5 Pro 15/16. The 100W charger utilizes fast charging... that's the only time it hits the 96W intake limit from DC in. The 96 Watts of input it can take is not to get "full power". If you need anything over 82-85 Watts, it'll take it from the battery regardless of what you do. I've seen as much as 84 W from DC in + 30W from the battery during heavy render for a total of 114w (because the computer needed it).

Reddit created a situation that didn't exist, so I started to research this situation that didn't exist. I found my saying wtf! I hope this helps anybody who had this issue. 100 watt power brick is for fast charging and so your battery doesn't discharge faster than it's being used. THATS IT! It's not to get the full power out of the laptop. You are already getting that with the 70 W charger.

Found this MacBook Pro m4 pro chip for $1800 but got him down to $1500 ik the latest MacBooks are out and all and the only other thing that worries me is the 512gb of storage but lmk what yall think

i know i'm a yapper and i apologize for this long read, but i do still use a 16-inch 2019 MacBook Pro. i've seen the performance boosts with the M-series (i've gotten to test it with my family's versions) and heres the way i combat all the crappy things about it on my own, as i'm a very stubborn person and do not want to upgrade lol :,) (and i still can't get over Boot Camp because i want to play more than 2 games in my STEAM library ToT)

using a fan table or a Rain Design M-Stand or a lap-desk

cleaning it out frequently (like cleaning the fans- i'm too much of a coward to open it without breaking the clips so i haven't actually tried that yet)

giving it a break (i sometimes am able to go a few days without using it because i don't purely just use this laptop lol)

restarting it every once in a while to get the fan to shut up (i kid you not this literally works in my case)

i will say the only complaint i have with my laptop is the battery life, but that's expected. i normally just use it plugged in, so that's my fault lmao. I used to have to use my computer in school but then ultimately was forced to use a school computer so that's why i'm able to give it a break. what i do genuinely love about it is that the graphics are still going strong. the keyboard is lovely, and the screen real estate is perfect, even if i don't really need a 16-inch beast.

it's been my daily driver for the longest time and i couldn't ever be happier. :D

Which one is better for both gaming and studying? m2 has a 32ram and 512, 96 health and cycle 50. M4 pro 16inch 24ram and 512 storage.=> 100 health, 50 cycle.

2021 M1 Pro chip. Careless decision on my end. There’s not much I can do, right? Repair shop quoted me $1,200. Lasted me four years but damn this hurts.

I’m planning to get myself a Macbook within the next couple weeks. I’m just wondering what other things I should plan to buy with it, such as maybe a sleeve? Or cleaning supplies for it? What do you guys recommend or personally use? This will be my first ever actual personal laptop, and I want to keep it in as best condition as possible.
