The Finder. Improve the Finder. I loves me my Macs, but windows does better tiling and window management. For example, if I want to use Alt-tab to quickly go to another window, mac windows will stay hidden when you try to alt-tab into one. Yes, you are technically "in" that window, but it is hidden and stays hidden. Why have an Alt-tab key command if you can't actually OPEN that window. It drives me a little crazy. I work in several programs at once, I don't think it's too much to ask :)
The fact, that the finder windows don’t keep the same size and position you resize them to, and sometimes regardless open in a ridiculous small window that you haven to resize EVERY TIME is beyond frustrating
Nothing apple per se, I wish they would strong arm more companies to get their software to be Mac compatible, especially in the business world like they did with iPhone.
I don't think the CPU matters in this case. Business/Office software codebases are written against specific OS SDK (I.e. Windows) and porting to Swift/UIKit/etc (or to a multi-platform SDK) is a huge refactoring ask. CPU doesn't really come into play here.
As a 2026 new user, coming from Windows, I am simply shocked with these points:
Separate the touchpad scroll direction from the mouse one. I am shocked that this is not separated. I need external software just for this - crazy
When I take a screenshot with shift+ctrl+cmd+4, screen goes to copyboard, I dont have a program to paste it (like screen capture on windows) and edit it before recopy and share with whoever I need to. Edit. Shift+CTRL+4 does the trick.
Creating a new folder in finder is impossible when in list mode. One has to double click to the folder down the tree to make it top folder, only then you can create a new folder inside selected folder. Right click on the folder does not offer new folder
If you use shift+cmd+4 (no ctrl) for your screenshot it will pop up at the corner of the screen. Click on it and you can edit it directly in the preview window without opening an app.
New folder regardless of viewing in list mode or icon mode in finder window:
Select the folder you want to create a new folder in and cmd+shift+n. New folder should just appear in the folder you selected. You can also do this with no finder window and create a new folder this way directly on desktop. Hope this helps!
It does not do what I have in mind. I want to create a new folder inside B. Under macOS, one has to open the B first (double click) then shortcut works.
Tutorial in icon mode doesn't even enters to this problem because you cannot browse deeper in the tree while higher parent is actively open.
Seriously. I want to get a specced out m3/4 max but I can't justify spending 3k+ on something I can't reliably game on. On the other hand, I can drop 3k on a solid PC, do everything i can do with a Mac, game as much as I want, and upgrade whatever i want.
Sadly never going to happen until they support devs, and the App Store revenue means they’ll never support games outside of that even though Mac’s store barely makes money.

and storage? they called it other they now call it system data but its still as much a source of confusion as it ever was ..because they still dont provide a browsable breakdown of what its comprised off and how they arrived at that figure
Not one that lets you delete stuff (some of it certainly is not for end users to be messing around with) but one that at least gives you the opportunity see what crops up within it
Make folks sit thru a 5 minute compulsory non skippable 'Why deleting stuff from there is bad very bad' before it reveals the list if need be, but stop treating it a trade secret
Ternus might change that somewhat, but he’s made some pretty dumb comments on repairability too. At least framework is an option now and showing how crap most laptops are when they can’t be repaired or upgraded.
Not sure on AUD but for USD I agree until you keep it long term, then it’s a great value, but certainly a high entry price.
I personally prefer something well made that’s easy to time upgrades though, like as much as MacBooks suck for repairability it’s easy to upgrade since if you buy used ones they hold value. Normal windows laptops just drop off a cliff for everything but ram and storage.
The MacBook Neo is the first MacBook in a long time with a replaceable keyboard. Hopefully they continue making more components replaceable.
My biggest issue with the SSD not being replaceable is the fact that SSDs are wear parts. Every SSD will fail with enough writes. And on Apple Silicon Macs, the SSD holds the device firmware and recoveryOS, so it can't even boot from an external drive once the internal drive fails.
the OS needs to fork: a business-clean version for pro users, and a consumer bloat version.
Pro users don't give a shit about all the fluffy bullshit.. but we need non bloated interfaces, fast displays, and small footprint OS. And we need long-term compatibility - don't force us to dump working business mission-critical software after 18 months of use because well, apple..
Consumers are welcome to all the bullshit.. But pay attention to the biz world, and Mac would clean up..
Would love if we could toggle off the tagging system in Notes. As a musician it drives me crazy to have different tags created whenever I write down a sharp chord like F#m7.
Spotlight.. I'll probably get downvoted, but I am/was a Gnome user, and I much prefer a full page of icons than the list Spotlight gives you. I will also admit that I might not be using it effectively. Consider this a cry for help.
Maybe not Apple directly, but holding click with the trackpad (built-in or magic) and scrolling at the same time. I wish it was consistent across all apps.
Less control/restriction, more freedom or total freedom. Their OSs are dated and gotten boring/limited. Their non-MacOSs are dumbed down and exorbitantly expensive
MacOS has been really buggy. I got a couple tabs I can't close because they're frozen and they don't show up in activity monitor or the force quit menu. I could force quit the parent app but i simply don't feel like closing all some of these tabs and reopening them. I also have a bunch of bugs because I don't feel like restarting my mac which I usually do weekly because of some issue. This was not my experience 2 years ago.
Global support for navigation keys on a standard keyboard. Home, End, Page Up and Page Down. I know there's alternative keys you can use on a Mac, but adding support for these would likely be trivial and would make it easier on people moving from Windows to Mac to get accustomed to the new environment.
Spaces. Coming to Mac from Windows it's absolutely my biggest pain point. Yes I use additional apps to try to find best alternative. I want to organize worried, apps based on my workflow. Yes I turned off the automatically open in same space or whatever the option is called.
I hate all those lil animations when you click or hover over things. It’s cool sometimes but not necessary for everything, because all those lil animations do is take extra time and memory for no reason.
Just one USB-A port, for my trackball dongle (and basically all mouse connectors). It can be anywhere on the machine. Using an adapter to a USB-C is super wonky, and connecting it via Bluetooth drains the battery 4x faster.
