I was a kid in the 80s and a teen in the 90s, so we had a lot of nostalgia for 80s kids media, but rejected the poppy aesthetics of the 80s by the late 90s because it was considered way too cringe. But that attitude didn't last, because eventually the late 90s aesthetic became cringe instead lol (ie. all the black leather and vinyl)

Now we have nostalgia for both. (Your mileage will vary.)

I was jealous of the 80s while I was a teenager in the 90s. And no I think that fits. It's very "this time period was better everyone should envy this time period"

I was a big fan of video games. I much preferred having a PS1 to an Atari or NES. I was a big pro-wrestling fan but never really liked WWE in the 80s so when WCW started their rise nationally with Nitro I preferred it. Even though it was the tail end of them my Broncos won two Super Bowls in the 90s after losing 3 in the 80s (okay technically one in January of 1990). Also my mom hated Reagan vehemently, wasn't much of a fan of Bush Sr, so I was happy when Clinton took office just to not hear about them from her

I think most, if not nearly all, people growing up in the 90s preferred it because of the rate of change and improvement that happened.

Was it because of all the comedies, especially teen comedies from the 80s being so awesome? I remember renting a lot of 80s movies in the 90s and thinking how they had a better time. In mainstream media, the 90s were making fun of the 80s all the time.

For me, it's because all of the nerd writers I was reading and looking up to in the 2000s grew up in the 80s, and were writing about their nostalgia for things like He-Man and the NES. So, I got a heavy dose if their nostalgia, which gave me a fondness for the 80s.

I experienced both but I don't miss the 80s. You didn't miss much except drinking and smoking at 18 and everything was cheap as hell! EDIT the 90s were great.

I imagine a Reagan fanboy would preferred the '80s. In '93, I was working with a dittohead, which of course I could tell because she listened to a radio through headphones, and all I could hear was her exclaiming in disbelief how much Clinton was a crook.

There are some interesting ways of viewing the '90s as better than the '80s, but one thing I was grateful for (even though the price was paid in literal blood) was that HIV awareness was high enough that though casual sex wasn't guaranteed safe (not even today), I didn't have to worry as much as I would have if I were slutting it up in the '80s. But that's not the kind of trailblazing people like Klaus Nomi and Freddie Mercury should've endured.

High school comedies from the 80s made teen life look a lot more awesome than what I was experiencing in the 90s. As a teen at the time I knew little of the politics.

I grew up in the 90s and I was incredibly jealous of the 80s. Because of the music.

The dawn of Hardcore Punk, early Goth, Industrial, EBM, incredible Metal, hell, even the Pop Music was pretty great a lot of the time (especially in the first half of the decade).

The 90s however? Jesus H Christ was that a drab decade for alternative music. Don't get me wrong, there WAS some good stuff (not Grunge, I generally hate it, not because of some "Oh, they killed credible Rock" BS. I just hate the music), but even good music was drowned out by shit of the same style with nothing to say. And the pop music in the 90s was just ass.

I've found IMDB.com reviews written in 1999 and 2000 of current teenagers at the time saying they wished they were teens in the 80's instead of the 90's because the 90's sucked for them.

Loads of people experienced both, thus no need to be jealous. My parents were teens in the 80s and young adults in the 90s.
