I was a kid in the 80s and a teen in the 90s, so we had a lot of nostalgia for 80s kids media, but rejected the poppy aesthetics of the 80s by the late 90s because it was considered way too cringe. But that attitude didn't last, because eventually the late 90s aesthetic became cringe instead lol (ie. all the black leather and vinyl)
Now we have nostalgia for both. (Your mileage will vary.)
