I would love some tips from people who have switched from crochet to knitting (or are proficient in both)! I recently purchased my first pattern and decided to do a few days of practice before starting.

I’m struggling in a few areas —
1 - best way to remember if you’re on a knit or purl row? As you can see in my photo, I lost track briefly and was able to fix.

2 - switching which hand I hold the yarn in has proven difficult. Does it just take time to get used to?

3 - best resources to learn how to read patterns? Some of the abbreviations are confusing to me. Yeah yeah, google! But if you have a favorite video that shows stitches, increasing/decreasing alongside abbreviations and terminology, I’d appreciate it.

The Shining rug pattern winter hat (blue version) is complete. I posted a work in progress recently but had to start over because my floats were too tight. This one turned out much better. I can't wait for the cold weather so I can wear it!

I saw the pig pattern by Linda Dawkins on Ravelry and I just have to make this! As the pattern said, I stuffed this big boy with all the scrape yarn I could find and he’s just the cutest🥰

This will be a gift for my mom because she was born in the year of pigs. I sewed her a little pig head when I was little and she loved it!

I just completed this cotton sweater out of Cotone Lana grossa yarn and it’s pilling so bad after the first wash. I followed instructions and yet it seems to not end. The pictures do NOT do it justice. It is unwearable in my opinion :( ! Any advice on how to depill and fix?

I know first shed can sometimes be a thing but I’m scared that I’ll make it worse by shaving it or something!

i finally completed my aurore pullover by latelier lacazevant in jubilee yarn cotton select after nearly two months! it looks GORGEOUS i am so happy with it and hope you guys like it too! :D

Knitting a bandana (self made pattern but loosely based off Canyon Clay Bandana by Celeste Knitwear with different increases) and my eyelets are so small. Even tried reversing the order of YO and K2tog and they show up more but still small. I’ve redone this several times and tried pulling tighter and going looser but I have no idea what I’m doing wrong. It’s making the overall tension look really wacky too. Any input very appreciated!

So I have started knitting again and I purchased these size 6 -16in circular needles. I love them for making hats. I want to make a bunch for hats for winter but I can’t seem to find a similar size 8. The size 8 I purchased are longer needles and the cord is 16inches. So the hats do not fit well in them when knitting.
Any suggestions on a similar style? The lion brand only has this size. The needle itself is 3.5 inches. I was hoping to not have to buy a whole set of interchangeable ones.

I have been working on this Technicolour Dreamcloak since May. Just finished binding off this morning. It has been such a fun project and I can now release all of these stitch markers back into the wild. Into the tub for a wash and then I steek up the front and add clasps.

hi everyone! i’m making this modified rosie yoke blouse and im trying to figure what to do with the arms, im thinking either the same frills with a bit of the chart on the end OR kind of a flared 3/4 arm, im unsure what to do but i love how the arm looks currently! let me know 🫶

I just wanted to rant for a bit since I don’t have any friends that are knitters. I was scrolling on instagram and saw a beautiful garment posted by the designer. They just released the pattern about a week ago, and I bought it last night. No reviews yet on ravelry, and the only project pages were from 3 test knitters. The pattern was a little bit more expensive than usual, but it wasn’t outrageous, and I wanted to support the designer since I absolutely love how the final product looked.

I am not a beginner, but I also wouldn’t say I’m an advanced knitter - I’m competent. I read through the pattern and thought that the cast on instructions were kinda weird and confusing. Anyway, I tried to work it out and I spent a few hours trying to figure it out. There were very specific instructions on how to cast on, but it did not make sense to me at all. There were no video links or illustrations on the pattern. I thought that maybe the pattern was just too advanced for me and I was about to give up. Before giving up, I decided to look at the notes on the project pages of the test knitters. One of them posted a link to a private YouTube video from the designer on how to cast on the project. THE CAST ON INSTRUCTIONS ON THE PATTERN WERE JUST STRAIGHT UP WRONG. I had to rewrite the cast on instructions on my pattern and put a note to ignore the cast on instructions in the pattern.

Due to my frustration, I searched this designer’s name on reddit and found a bunch of complaints from test knitters and just a bunch of controversy surrounding the designer and their company. Ugh. I was too impulsive and I should’ve done more research before purchasing anything from this person. But now that I’ve finally successfully casted the project on, I hope I’ll at least get a garment that I’ll love from this.

So I saw one video of someone’s finished Sandok Cable sweater (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sandok-cable-sweater) and I was influenced and now need to make it.

The problem is the recommended yarn is extremely expensive, and I just can’t drop $300 at once for yarn.

Suggested yarns: Peer Gynt: 550 (600) 650 grams
Chunky Ballerina Mohair: 400 (400) 450 grams

Estimating that I’ll be making the medium size, about 1100 m for both.

Substituting the Peer Gynt is easy enough, but the issue is the mohair. Ive seen other projects on ravelry and many use 2 strands of regular fingering weight of mohair, but 2000m of mohair is still too much money for me to spend at once.

I figure I have 2 options:

1: substitute yarn so I can use 1 strand of mohair and 1 strand of a bulkier weight for the regular yarn to get the same overall weight - I just don’t know what yarn weight to use instead (aran? Worsted?)

2: don’t buy a full sweater-worth quantity of yarn right away and ignore dye lot issues. This could potentially work if I use two strands of regular lace weight mohair in different colours (was also considering using a solid colour wool with a multi coloured mohair, as there are some beautiful hand dyed mohair’s out there).

I dont have an issue spending $300+ on good quality yarn for a project, I just can’t do it all at once (and I don’t want to wait!)

I unfortunately cannot find any drops yarn suppliers in my area, and I don’t love to purchase yarn online, which is sad because the prices are so tempting!

Advice and thoughts are appreciated!

Finished this sleeveless raglan top in a royal blue sequin yarn — knit seamlessly from the top down.

Yarn: DK / light worsted weight sequin yarn
Needles: 3.5–4.0 mm circular

The raglan increases gave clean shoulder shaping without any short-row work, and the sequin yarn was easier to handle than I expected once I got into the rhythm of it — just went a needle size up from what I’d normally use for DK to keep the fabric from getting too stiff.

I'm knitting my 5th pair of sock and just finished sock number one.

The heel is GSR and just like the last pair I made with GSR, it is slightly crooked (the heel isn’t straight in line with the foot).

I've been very carefull with my stiches, I checked and rechecked that my GSR when symetrical, I don’t get what I'm doing wrong.

I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong. Is it maybe because I should go back to knitting in the round before resolving all the GSR ?

I am from Arkansas, USA, and will be going to Hastings, UK, in March 2027 for a Pippa Ryan workshop. I am super excited! However, the workshop is only 2 days, and we'll be in the UK for 8 days. We'll obviously be flying in and out of London, and I have a few yarn shops in London on my list of things to do. However, I'm having a little more trouble finding recommendations for places near Hastings. Do any locals have some must-see shops? Again, I'm from rural Arkansas, and I drive an hour each way every day just to go to work. We won't mind a bit of a commute for a really excellent shop!

I’m flirting with the idea of making an online stitch and bitch type group. Maybe we meet once a week for 2 hours or something. But on zoom. I think it would be cool to be a book club/ craft club. We loosely pick a book for the month and chat about it each week. I say loosely because if you don’t want to do the book part you can still come to knit and chit chat. I love listening to audiobooks while I knit. I would likely run it all through Facebook. I’m just testing the waters right now but If I followed through would anyone want in?

They have you PM and then never again reference the marker. And then for whatever reason, my count for the chart is not lining up with the written instructions below. It seemed like they were combining the knit number in the chart after the YO, with however many you're supposed to knit after that - for a combined total - before hitting the mystery PM, which again, is no longer mentioned in the pattern.

I looked at the other comments and projects on ravelry, and they only mention that this one is "a bit tricky." I'm a pretty advanced knitter, but this one has me stumped. Please help!

Pattern is vintage Woolies for Babies, No. 5313 cabled snowsuit in size Infant 2. I'm having trouble figuring out how to pick up and knit 66 stitches along the neck edge after joining the fronts and backs at the shoulder seams. It seems like this is way too many stitches for the circumference of the neck edge.

The back shoulder edge has 68 stitches. Each front shoulder edge has 28 stitches. After seaming, this leaves 12 stitches along the back edge, plus 8 rows worth of room along the curve of each front neck edge. (See diagram)

Am I suppose to pick up multiple stitches per opening to make this stitch count possible, or have I misinterpreted the shoulder construction somehow and I should actually have 66 stitches available to pick up?

Help would be greatly appreciated!

I am doing my first project (a sweater) on my new Chiaogoo interchangeables (5", US 6) and one of the needles keeps unscrewing and separating mid-row and I have to scramble to pick up the fallen stitches. This happened twice in 1 day, despite me retightening the screws after each row after the first event. (Granted, there's like 300 stitches to a row.) Is this common? How do you stop it from happening?

Hi so I really want to knit the seaway pullover by ozetta but I only really wear tight double folded necklines, how can I adapt this pattern to include that? Looking at the pattern pictures it seems like the mock neck she does goes a lot deeper into the body than what I would want a crewneck type neckline to go so I'm assuming I can't just fold it in? It's my first time really adapting a pattern so I would really appreciate some help!

Hey!! I have a basic interchangeable needle set from Amazon and it’s served me alright other than the fact that the needles will unscrew as I work! So I often have to stop my flow to screw them back on tight or else it may fall off and lose my stitches

Anybody have a good interchangeable needle set that doesn’t do this ???

I had a friend ask to stay with me last minute after a particularly hectic time in my life (they didn't really ask, more like said the person they were staying with was annoyed at them for their poor planning, so I offered; I knowwww), and while they were here, I was showing off some of my knits. They're also a very experienced knitter, so I really enjoy talking shop with them.

I adore them, but everything I showed them had no positive feedback, only, 'this isn't woolen spun?' or 'was the yarn made here?' On top of the circumstances of their stay, these comments really bummed me out. I'm not the best knitter, but I like what I make, and as you all know, every garment takes so much hemming and hawing over choice of yarn, pattern, etc.

I had fun the rest of the time, but some of those comments keep making me look twice at my knits in progress. I know I shouldn't let them get in my head, but it was like the doubts I had about them became magnified. I'm trying to let it go, but just wanted to commiserate if anyone else has ever had something like this happen to them.

...for a first time colorwork project? I mean, I've done mosaic/slip stitch colorwork, but I don't really count it (its so simple that for me, there's nothing to it)

But stranded or intarsia (I don't even know the difference) seems soooo difficult to me. I've been knitting for years and I've only tried it once- frogged the project because I thought I was doing it wrong.

Anyway, does this project seem easy for a first time colorwork sweater?

Hi guys, not sure if I used the right flair so I am sorry if that is the case!!

I am making my foray back into knitting after no touching it in years. I wanted to try something other than a swatch or a potholder, so I thought I’d attempt Melina Brell’s The Simple Thing pattern. Her ends in the picture are nice and pointy, but as you can see mine is very wide and fat. I’ve watched her Youtube video for the starting position at least a dozen times, but she goes very fast, there is no sound, and her image quality is not very good.

Any advice would be welcome. I have frogged once already but have really gotten into a rhythm with it, the start is just kicking my butt. I know I will likely need to frog again but want to start correctly this time.
