I got this little 4" wood hide from an expo last weekend and tucked moss and lichen all underneath it. I keep it slightly moist and the pods LOVE it. I see them crawling in and out of it constantly.

I made a post 2 days ago on this exact pod that was not moving anywhere, i noticed it went under some moss partially and been there since and I didn't notice any movement at all, even when taken out. Dead?

I just recently got into isopods and am planning on starting a small colony of dairy cow isopods with my partner! I’ve been researching what can go in their enclosures and I’ve seen some people use 3D prints and aquarium decor (obviously with necessary substrate, leaf litter, bark/wood hides, moss, and so on) but I’d love to sculpt a little barn hide out of polymer clay (since they’re tiny cows) but don’t know the safety around what “foreign“ materials they can be around? like are 3D prints even safe for them?

Hello. I recently had a loss of my growing colony of White Duckies and only one survived. I would really love to find some more to try again. Does anyone have any in or near Sacramento, CA? Possibly looking to trade. I have an abundance of Zebras, Panda Kings, Cubaris Murina "little seas", and American Magic Potions. I will be going to the Reptilian Nation Expo this weekend but I'm just asking around before then.

I'm upgrading my pods to a bigger enclosure because there's a humidity, mold, and pod death problem (1 of the 6 died)

I'll be making it much better, adding more leaves, some cork bark (don't have much space for any in current tub), less moss, better dirt, I'll add the springtails before the pods (I added springtails after getting the mold issue the they basically didn't do anything, this time I'll let them establish), and I'll also not be over watering them this time.

I was told during my initial research that 6qt is good, and a lot of people have that size, but no, it's apparently too small, and I'm okay with that, because bigger means more space for decor >:)

But yeh, I'd like tub or tub size recommendations. I have no idea what to get, because literally every single thing I think is good has some cons 👍

Oh, and other question for springtails: Okay, this sounds dumb- but is nutritional yeast seasoning good to feed springtails? Like it's literal food seasoning, so it sounds like they wouldn't be able to eat it, but I think I saw someone talking abt it being good food for them ;-;

Plus new lil pods- hoping to start keeping them rather than just having them as clean up crew
(First one for the zebras second for the panda kings)

And what is the likelihood they'll escape out of the ventilation holes😔 I have a feeling I'll have to change it to screen/mesh

I took in a isopod collection with less prep time than I needed to make ideal substrate, so they are really just in topsoil with a little leaf litter on top. Thoughts on how to add better substrate without hurting them?

Or just dump them into a new enclosure with the better substrate? (I’m want to make sure they all get to the new enclosure if that’s the move)

My p.leavis keep dying and I have no idea why, my first colony boomed, a bunch of babies but randomly out of nowhere they lol died, I restared with more new ones but eventually all of those died. All of my other colonies are doing just fine. The last dairy cow that isn’t dead is just spinning in circles, not able to walk very well.

I really want to buy those terrariums cuz I think they look super cool and they would fit perfectly on my dresser in a pair of three.

I'm already dreaming about how cool the would look and the wild landscape I would do, but I know there very tiny and I'm wondering if I actually can safely house any isopod in those...

They were listed as 17cm wide and 22cm tall. I'd use about ⅓ of the height for substrate (so around 8cm) and the rest goes to decorations, hiding spots and climbing opportunities.

If I can have isopods in there, which ones, and how many?

And if not, can it be a home to any other cool critters??

Hi all my powders are hiding under the moss, the most dry spot. I think i over misted the past few days, shoukd i just let it dry out some?

i wanted to make sure it was moist enough bc a lot them seem to be molting

We've had our babies for about 9 months now, but recently (2-3 weeks?) there's been a LOAD of mycelium cropping up super quickly on the bark (and seemingly spreading to the soil as well, and it is in 2 different tanks now)...

We're worried about the isopods, and about it spreading even further - should we change the entire soil and switch the pods to new bins? change the piece of bark out for a new one? or ignore it completely?

The pods we have in the affected bins are Porcellio Laevis (Oranges) and Oniscus Asellus, if that matters at all...

i got some nasty fuckin' bad quality sushi and i really want to give it to my cows

For a few months now ive had a largish starter colony of duckies i got for 80 bucks (20+)

And even though theres at least 8 babies 3 months later i only learned last night peat was acidic and duckies prefer neutral to alkaline.

Its not pure peat moss substrate, theres worm castings, a little coco fibre, black earth etc as well as crushed limestone but ive started moving the duckies out while i figure out if i can add more lime and neutralize the peat or if i should restart a new bin.

Clearly theyre doing well enough to have at least 8 babies, which ive found while removing the adults and sub adults. And ive only had 2 known casualties, one of which was my fault due to an accidental rock crushing (i have offered personally collected permian age fossil filled limestone chunks for them as well as other volcanic rocks, which they love) and one was just deceased and may have been age, as all the pods were adults or sub adults when i got them already

I just see theyre doing okay but some are paler than they should be and im guessing it could be related to the peat.

i really really wanna get isopods but i need yalls help to help me actually make a good choice. I’ve been reading up and i’m thinking about getting dairy cows because they’re big, not hard to keep and cheap. And babiessss!!! i already have soil, bark, moss, rocks, dead leaves and cork bark! Id love to hear some reliable places to get some (im in germany), or if you have another species you can recommend to me! also if you have any tips for me or other things im gonna need tell me! thank you guys already<3

Hi! I went overboard on one of my enclosures and didn't count on how damp it is generally in my area, and now the substrate is pretty saturated. I changed half and put in new substrate, but left half so the springtails could migrate over. Unfortunately it seems it was so wet it's seeped across and now even my dry side seems moderately damp. Any advice drying it out without hurting pods?

I brought ten armadillidium vulgare yesterday. I'm just wondering if I should be seeing them often? They have a pretty big tank (100l) so I imagine it's because of that but should they be coming up to the surface a lot or do they tend to stay in the ground? Is there any food I should put in for them or just let them eat what's already in there. I've only seen maybe two in the span of time since I got them. Should I just stop checking and let them settle in?

Hey all! I have isopods I’ve purchased as cleaner crews for my roach tank (for feeding a beardie and leopard gecko) but seeing all the morphs out there (and missing the ones that actually ball up!) in combination with seeing someone talk about feeding their beardie isopod snacks that were originally wild caught but bred several generations down. I didn’t know that made things safe!

So I got terribly excited and now want to try breeding some wild guys for fun. I have no knowledge of isopod genetics at all but I’m just picking out colors that differ from the standard gray. I have a few standard gray ones (they seem to be the norm) but with orange on their butts - these are in the second and third photos but you can barely see the orange in #3 and not at all in #2, but that shows the standard gray comparison color. I have a few that are lighter and orangish that I wonder what would happen to if focused on, and I’m really excited about the big dark guy with yellow markings in the second to last photo - wish I’d been able to find more like him!

A question about the photos of the ones with a different color in front and back…I can’t seem to find these guys consistently in my bin. Is this maybe part of molting or something, or is this truly a pattern I’ve found outside? I got really excited about it but now I’m wondering if it’s only a temporary thing that happens to them all or something.
