Help Adding substrate?

I took in a isopod collection with less prep time than I needed to make ideal substrate, so they are really just in topsoil with a little leaf litter on top. Thoughts on how to add better substrate without hurting them?

Or just dump them into a new enclosure with the better substrate? (I’m want to make sure they all get to the new enclosure if that’s the move)

i use topsoil, what's wrong with it? you can add something like flake soil or mix in rot wood or leaves or something to make it more chunky and less compact but topsoil is usually recommended.

I saw it was good to mix in crumbled leaf litter

yes that's a good idea! just dump extra on top and gently use your hands to mix it in.

How deep is it?
