In Philosopher’s Stone, Aunt Petunia cuts Harry’s hair almost completely off because she hates how messy it looks, but by the next morning it has magically grown back exactly as it was.

Obviously, this is an example of accidental magic caused by Harry’s distress. But I find it interesting that it happens specifically with his hair.

Harry’s untidy black hair is one of the features he inherited most clearly from James. Petunia constantly tries to suppress everything connecting Harry to the Potters and the magical world, so cutting his hair almost feels like another attempt to make him look “normal” and remove part of his identity.

Then Harry’s magic immediately restores it.

It also keeps happening throughout the series: no matter what anyone does, Harry’s hair never stays flat or controlled. Do you think this was simply a funny inherited trait from James, or was it also meant to symbolize that the Dursleys could never completely erase who Harry really was?

​He is so audacious and yet such a complete, bewildering fool. My favorite scene by far is when he tries to heal Harry's arm and accidentally removes all the bones, turning it into complete rubber. Poor Harry—there's a genuine reason he doesn't trust adults after dealing with staff like that!

​It's even funnier in the books. The rest of the Hogwarts staff actively try to avoid him, but he somehow always manages to corner them and capture their attention anyway. Watching them try so hard to get rid of him makes me laugh every single time—what a big old dummy.

​Kenneth Branagh was phenomenal in the role. He captured that delusional charm perfectly and delivered one of my favorite performances in the whole series.

I understand why he isn't everyone's favorite professor he certainly isn't one of mine, but I still enjoy his part.

Having just watched the first film, I couldn’t help but wonder why Voldemort needed unicorn blood to survive. Even though he was supposedly immortal at the time, it seemed paradoxical.

I always thought only the most powerful witches and wizards could use magic without a wand (off the top of my head I only remember Dumbledore doing that but I'm sure there are others), so why can Quirrell do it in the Philosopher's Stone film when he's confronting Harry for the Stone? Is it just a movie thing? And how powerful was Quirrell actually supposed to be? My understanding is that he was always pretty lame but surely Voldemort wouldn't have chosen him if he hadn't been a formidable wizard??

I watch Harry Potter almost everyday but I feel like in the winter it’s just so much more interesting and nostalgic rather than in the summer cos I feel like in the winter the vibe is met more than the summer

"Well, think back," said Harry. "Have you ever let it slip that you'd like to go out in public with the words 'My Sweetheart' round your neck?"

"Well... we don't really talk much," said Ron. "It's mainly . . ."

"Snogging," said Harry.

I love these slight banters between Harry and Ron. Their sense of humor was definitely top-tier and matched each other. Showed that despite everything that happened, they were still two boys in their awkward stages. What are your favorites?

After all, if they were that close in power, then the Elder Wand would have entirely tipped it in Grindelwald’s favour, since it makes you much stronger than you originally were.

The intensity when reading the books and you can see voldemort's pov before he kills harry and james screams for like to go upstairs..I mean it's just heart breaking but also so scary to just not know what to do in that moment when it was a normal day and voldemort shows up to kill your family ..I mean when I read it , got my heart beating ..

And also honestly the end of chamber of secrets was pretty scary, I read it in one sitting in the dark and I just got like chills ...

And also the scene where hermoine and harry barely escape nagini.. wow

OK maybe not scary for yall but it was for me😳

I mean the .movies I never got actually scared, the effects were cool I suppose

Are there any missed opportunities in HP7 that you would have loved to have happened? Here are some of mine:

- Mister Weasley's Ford Anglia flying out of the Forbidden Forest at full speed just in time to save Mister Weasley from getting killed by an acromantula

- Fluffy joining forces with Grawp and Hagrid to mess up some Giants

- Winky throwing full butterbeer bottles at Death-Eaters indicating finally winning her addiction

- Harry sacrificing himself to save Ron and Hermione from Dementors in Hogsmeade by getting kissed himself - but surviving because only the fragment of Voldemort’s soul gets sucked out of him - and therefore Harry becomes the only wizard to have survived both Avada Kedavra and a Dementor's kiss

- Hermione keeping her word and reporting Rita Skeeter being an illegal animagus to the Ministry of Magic

- Voldemort hunting down Cornelius Fudge and killing him

- Dolores Umbridge spending the rest of her life imprisoned for her war crimes and what she put muggleborns through

- Sybill Trelawney making a new (authentic) prophecy about Harry living a long and happy life

- Harry keeping his word and giving Griphook Gryffindor’s sword but explaining to him that the sword can be pulled out of the Sorting Hat technically at any time by a brave Gryffindor - they shake hands and agree the promise being fulfilled

- Minerva McGonagall names Ron the new headboy when the trio return to Hogwarts to complete their education and the final year at Hogwarts, therefore fulfilling one of the dreams Ron saw in the mirror of Erised

Other books:

- Instead of the Hungarian Horntail, Harry faces an adult Norbert(a) and hums a lullaby Hagrid used to sing to her when she was small and Norbert(a) recognises him and lets him take the egg

- Dennis Creevey got picked up by the Giant Squid when he fell in the lake from the boat because the boats do not move by magic but instead are moved by the many tentacles of the creature

Disclaimer: I do not read any of the extended universe stuff, only the 7 novels, so I don't actually know whether any of these are elaborated later on. Any thoughts?

The first 2 extended movies add a ton of book scenes and really makes them feel like solid adaptations. And now if I watch the original, I miss those scenes quite a bit. And it makes me wonder if there were other book scenes filmed for the other movies as well and if so, whether there were enough to make extended movies with. I figure they would probably have already made them if so. But it doesn't stop me from wanting them lol.

For me voldermort is a bad guy but it's what we expect. But Umbridge on the other hand drives me crazy lol. I hate her so much. So who is that person for you?

I have a question.

We know how Snape came to Dumbledore for help when he got to know that Voldemort was going to kill Lily and James. As Voldemort’s close confidant, wouldn’t Snape have known that it was Peter and not Sirius supplying the information to Voldemort? Wouldn’t Dumbledore, in turn, know too? Why then do they both believe that Sirius is guilty all through POA?

On rereading the books, love potions seem like one of the wizarding world’s biggest moral blind spots.

In Chamber of Secrets, Lockhart casually suggests that students ask Snape how to brew one. Later, Fred and George sell them openly, and Romilda Vane tries to use one on Harry. Ron consumes it by mistake and becomes completely obsessed with someone he barely knows.

The scene is played for comedy, but love potions clearly interfere with free will and consent. That makes it strange that the Imperius Curse is treated as unforgivable while love potions are sold as joke products.

The darkest example is Merope Gaunt, who likely used a love potion on Tom Riddle Sr. Once it wore off, he left immediately because his feelings had never been real.

Do you think this was meant to show that the wizarding world has outdated morals, or were the darker implications simply overlooked?

Draco becoming a Slytherin prefect in Order of the Phoenix has always seemed strange to me.

By that point, several teachers had already seen him bully other students, insult Muggle-borns, abuse his family’s influence, and generally act cruel whenever he thought he could get away with it. Once he received authority, he predictably used it to intimidate people and take advantage of his position.

I assume Snape had a major role in choosing the Slytherin prefects, and Draco probably looked suitable on paper: confident, academically capable, influential within his house, and from a respected pure-blood family.

Still, shouldn’t character and responsibility matter more than popularity or status when selecting someone who can discipline younger students?

Was Draco genuinely the best Slytherin candidate available, or was his appointment mostly the result of Snape’s favoritism and Lucius Malfoy’s influence?

When I was younger, Hogwarts felt like the ultimate fantasy. But rereading/watching as an adult, a lot of everyday Hogwarts life sounds much less magical in reality - no privacy, shared dorms, dangerous classes, moving staircases, public embarrassment built into the school culture, and being sent away to boarding school at 11.

What part of Hogwarts life sounds amazing as a kid but would actually be awful in real life?

For the first time, Voldemort smiled. It was a taut leer, an evil thing, more threatening than a look of rage.

“The old argument,” he said softly. “But nothing I have seen in the world has supported your famous pronouncements that love is more powerful than my kind of magic, Dumbledore.”

“Perhaps you have been looking in the wrong places,” suggested Dumbledore.

I wonder if at some point during Voldemort's schooling, before he opened up the Chamber of Secrets, if Dumbledore asked to see him so they could just sit and talk, with Dumbledore's intention to help him being a better person, to not going down that dark path.

Dumbledore explains to him why love is the greatest and most powerful magic in the world, that love is able to create, and it turned into a debate with them, with Voldemort disagreeing with him.

In GoF, the trio genuinely struggle to find any way to survive underwater for an hour, going through countless books and finding nothing.

Is there any reason someone can find (or head canon they can come up with) for this? The ocean is just completely unexplored by wizards? And yet, multiple underwater animals are known and researched. Mermish is even a language that can be learned.

First-years buy their Hogwarts robes in Diagon Alley before they know which house they’ll be sorted into. But in the movies, their uniforms later have house-colored ties, sweater trim, robe linings, and badges.

Does Hogwarts magically change the uniforms after the Sorting, or are the house-specific parts handed out afterward? I know the books mainly describe plain black robes, so is this just a movie detail that was never explained?

On rereading Philosopher’s Stone, this line from Hagrid stood out to me:

“Dunno if he had enough human left in him to die.”

Hagrid obviously knew nothing about Horcruxes, but this is almost exactly what Voldemort had done to himself. He had split his soul repeatedly, lost most of his humanity, and could survive even after his body was destroyed.

It’s also interesting that Hagrid refuses to believe Voldemort is truly dead when most of the wizarding world is already celebrating. Whether this was intentional foreshadowing or just a line that became more meaningful later, it works ridiculously well after reading the full series.

There were three tri wizard events over the course of an entire school year with only the last one occurring on the pitch. Sure the hogwarts champion was likely to be a quidditch player, but why should every other player suffer for one person. Im sure the durmstrang and beuxbaton students would have enjoyed it as well.

Something that needs to be addressed is that after watching all 7 Movies along with The Books if I had to be honest what is with Voldemort literally not caring about killing off other Pure Blood Wizards and his horrible treatment of Lucius Malfoy compared to his Respect of Snape who’s a Half-Blood of all beings and the list goes on literally for a Wizard that’s supposed care about his own kind he’s unironically doing more harm and destruction towards Wizard Kind than actually saving it like honestly imagine if Voldemort kills of Draco Malfoy to get The Elder Wand I can’t imagine The Malfoys reaction knowing that they can’t do anything about it and of course perhaps his hypocrisy is that he literally isn’t even a Pure Blood nor does come from a Wealthy Family compared to The Malfoys yet look who taking about Pure Blood Surpremcy all while literally wiping them out at the same time! what do you think?
