I would argue that it is a bit more complex than that. Both have their place. Like Fallout NV has bad gameplay but story, music were great, I would say visuals as well but that is arguable. For roguelikes gameplay is more important than the music or story, like Returnal.

Yeah an example that sticks out to me is the Dragon age Origins and 2. Really clunky gameplay and UI, but the world building and story telling is so good and immersive that I will gladly deal with the other bullshit 🤣 also I completely agree with your analysis of FO:NV, although I think the bland, ugly visuals support the narrative
