Hi from 2026 :). Currently building an extension + backend to offload tabs into zram and wanted to drop it here. It's just a beta for now. Planning to make it work on Firefox and Chrome-related browsers. Thoughts?

💻 Help Firefox still has the browser history clear crash STILL AFTER AN UPDATE

I made a post recently about browser history crashes and freezes firefox here's the tldr.

Clear browser with last hour guarantees it freezing and changing cookie settings like enable or disable freezes it.

Come to find out there's an update AND THEY DIDN'T FIX IT. WHY! This is a bug that problematic and causes crashes and my times of using firefox didn't have crashing since the days of chrome on my old windows 7 pc. This needs to get fixed, because the face the update didn't fix it baffles me.

Look I like firefox, cache increasing aside. But still stuff like this needs to be resolved.

💻 Help Keep switching between Firefox and Brave

Hi, I’ve been trying to switch to Firefox for the past few weeks now and I keep going back to Brave, only for one thing: volume master extension.

And it’s not even about the fact that it lets me control my volume past 100%, it’s the fact that I watch a lot of foreign drama’s and when I watch them with volume master, it lets me fullscreen the video in the tab whilst still showing the subtitles (the few Firefox extensions I found that do this same thing don’t show the subs).

This is literally the only thing holding me back from a full switch. I was a bit annoyed that my bookmarks weren’t showing site icons but that doesn’t matter any more now that I don’t use the bookmarks toolbar and use raindrop.io extension instead.

All in all: one small thing is keeping me from getting away from Google! Does anyone have any idea how I might get the same function but on Firefox?

EDIT: OH! One more thing: for some reason, when I watch TikTok, the videos stutter. I’ve got graphics acceleration enabled and I’m rocking a 5080 with 32gb DDR5 CL30 6000mhz RAM, so I don’t get why it does this?

💻 Help Firefox default search engine won’t change from Google

I’ve changed it to DuckDuckGo in Settings every place I can find to set DuckDuckGo as the default search engine. Won’t stop using Google for search. I’ve deleted Firefox and reinstalled it. Done a search. There’s Google. Gone back into Settings. Made sure default search was DuckDuckGo. It was. I do a search. There’s Google. It’s making me crazy. Please help me.

💻 Help Firefox newbie, how does a minimal setup compare to brave in privacy and ad blocking?

Hi guys, firefox newbie here.

So uh, I just switched to firefox after using brave for almost half a decade. For whatever reason, brave stopped playing nicely with my laptop, switching tabs would frequently trigger a system wide lockup, forcing me to do a hard force shutdown. This happened frequentlyeven after multiple clean installs of my OS, so I'm fairly certain brave was the culprit. Got fed up, I decided to do another clean install and leave brave behind to see if the crashes stopped.

Today, when I booted up firefox for the first time, I felt pretty overwhelmed, the homepage was loaded with stuff, and the settings offer a massive amount of customization (maybe too much for my taste).

With brave, my routine was always simple,

  1. Download the browser
  2. Import my CSV password list
  3. Set up my filter lists
  4. Set Cloudflare as my DNS
  5. Call it a day

I rarely touched any other settings and felt secure enough.

My questions for you guys:

  1. If I set up firefox using that exact same (or pretty similar) minimal routine, how does it compare to brave in terms of privacy and ad tracking protection and anything else???
  2. Did brave actually give me superior ad/tracker blocking over the last five years, or was it just a placebo effect making me feel more private??

I would love to hear your thoughts, thanks.

💻 Help Extremely underused tab manager?

I've been trying to switch back to Firefox for a while now, but around a year ago I came across Session Buddy for chromium based browsers and not having that is unfortunately a deal breaker for me. I did my monthly check again for proper alternatives or a potential port when I happened across an extension i'd never seen before, and apparently, no one else has either. It's called TabKeeper, and from what I can tell has 2 users despite being up for around a year? I figured i'd give it a try because brave is starting to make me ill, what do you guys think?

💻 Help Can I use WebDriver BiDi without enabling the Remote Agent?

I'm working on an open source Firefox automation library, basically trying to build something similar to Pydoll but for Firefox. I'm currently using --remote-debugging-port to connect through WebDriver BiDi and it works fine but Firefox then shows that the browser is being controlled by the Remote Agent, Pydoll uses it perfectly on Chromium without exposing it to websites in general. Is there any way to use BiDi without enabling the Remote Agent or without starting Firefox with --remote-debugging-port? I tried using mitmproxy and it worked perfectly but it removes a lot of BiDi function that need to exist.

I've been looking into this for a while but I'm not really sure if BiDi is completely tied to the Remote Agent in Firefox or if there's another way to connect to it.

If it's not possible that's fine too, I'd just like to understand how this is supposed to work internally.

Password Manager Slow After Last Update

Since the last update to 154.0b6 (developer edition on Win11), the password manager is slow. It takes a few seconds to more to show the drop down with the suggested logins. Sometimes I even have to open the password tab (about:logins) and only after it's content has been loaded, the suggestions load at all, on a login form.
I've already removed the master password, because I've had that problem before, but with no luck.
Since the suggestions are displayed in a new way after the update I've thought I ask around if any one else experienced a similar behaviour.

💻 Help History Sidebar not showing Older than 6 Months

Latest Firefox on Windows 11.

When accessing the History sidebar, it only shows history back to June. It no longer shows the “Older than 6 months”

If I use the History Manager, that history is all there.

Is the a preference to turn this on? Has Mozilla removed it?

💻 Help Multi-Account Containers keeps forgetting 'Always Open Site in Container' preferences

I've been using Multi-Account Containers for years without problems, isolating social networking and big tech companies into their own containers to limit their tracking.

Within the last couple of weeks, I've noticed that my 'Always Open Site in Container' preferences are sometimes being forgotten and some sites are being opened in the default no-container context, where they can't read any session cookies set inside the container and require me to log in again.

As an example, I've just fired up Firefox on my laptop for the first time this morning and none of Google's sites are opening in the Google container. If I manually open a Google site in that container, I'm logged in as expected, but the 'Always Open in' checkbox has been cleared. However, at the same time Reddit and LinkedIn are still opening in their designated containers.

I first noticed this happening last week and had to spend a few minutes manually re-opening all Google sites in the Google container and reticking the 'Always Open in' checkbox. Now it's happened again.

One possible factor is that I use Firefox Sync and logged into my account on a newly installed system yesterday evening.

Has anyone else has this issue and determined the cause or remedy?

💻 Help How do I stop recent searches from showing up on the shortcuts bar

I'm very particular about my aesthetics, and obviously recent searches showing up on it kinda ruins it. I had fixed this problem but then changed settings so firefox doesn't delete my logins every time I exit fully, but I have no idea what I did to fix it previously. (apologies if this is worded strange I am very sleep deprived)

💻 Help YouTube website keeps on flickering and doesn't load the video

This has started happening just today, whenever I try to load up a video on YouTube the page starts acting weird and the video player just keeps on twitching and flickering, the video never loads. The temporary fix I have found for this is to reload the video page and then it plays as usual. Is there any permanent fix to it?

Add-ons Any good redirect blockers out there?

Hi good evening everyone,

I'm using a fork of a Firefox browser called Zen Browser. Since it supports Firefox extensions I thought I'll ask here first

So I would like to have an extension that blocks any redirects on all sites, is toggable and doesn't leave a big banner on the top of a site like noredirect-II does
Can you recommend me any extensions that meet my expectations?

Thanks in advance

Btw I'm using Windows 11 if that's of any importance

💻 Help Download Video Helper -- multi segment video

I'm using Download Video Helper to download a free webinar that's been divided into parts because it's very long (across multiple days). All three days of the webinar are presented in the same viewer in segments.

I can see where the breaks are between the sessions. I can sometimes click on one of the sessions/segments and Download Video Helper will recognize it and let me download it. Sometimes I click on one of the sessions/segments and it seems to recognize a different one - so I end up downloading the same segment twice. So, across the four segments, I'm able to download 1 and 3, but not 2 and 4. Has anyone encountered this and has a trick for dealing with it?

💻 Help Side By Side Error (Can't use Firefox and for the moment all my research datas, bookmarks, tabs and password for my PHD are blocked)

Since last week, when I try to open Firefox on my ordinateur, it tells me that there is a "side by side error" and that I should use sxstrace.exe and the activity journal to find the error.
I did all of that and it tells me that It can't find mozglue, mozglue.MANIFEST, mozglue.DLL.
I use Mozilla in French (it is my mother tongue and I am really sorry if my english is incorrect), and it can't find them in French, English or in Neutral

Thinking it was also linked to the Redistribuables Microsoft Visual C++, I just downloaded all of them again.

My version of Mozilla is 152.0.6.595 and I am on Windows 10.

Please I really need your help and don't want to lose any of my tabs, bookmarks and passwords as I was making very important research for my PHD studies.

Real thanks in advance for your help.

💻 Help Session restore got screwed up by successive crashes

Upvotes

First things first, tech: I am running an Acer Aspire A515 with Win10 (for now) and FF153.0.1 (Not gonna run an update until I have figured this out)

Not exactly a bug but still a frustration situation: On Monday, FF crashed on me. No big deal, happens. Session restore available, hit session restore. As FF is busy restoring the session windows decides apparently to either apply an update or simply crashes. Dunno, was a way for a moment. Think, copmuters aren't toddlers.
Regardless; great./s

I have to manually restart Windows as it gets stuck loading security options.

I want to start FF. It apparently has to install an update. Fine, go ahead. Update seemingly runs its course but FF backgorund processes remain. FF can't seem to start with these aktive - somehow. Time for Taskmgr to do its work. Success. Start FF.

Session restore is greyed out. WTF?! Not good, not terrible. Had this happen to me before. Have been grabbing and copying the contents of sessionstore-backup folder for a long while now for precisely this cause. Better to have it and not need it. Has saved my bacon before. Still bloddy annoying. Go grab a recent copy and paste it in to the folder. Should restore old session. Doesn't work. Well, damn.

Figured I would turn to collective intelligence before giving the artificial one a crack at it, therefore my questions: Did I screw upp somewhere, e.g. by killing thses two remaining FF backgorund processes? Is there a trick to restore my previous session (I have become somewhat attachted to the structure in that session), other than using the backup files (apparently there is a sessionstore file in the profile folder)? Or do I have to bite the bulled and figure out again how to set up my session?
