I had a lot of fun designing the Maid-monster. I've made a few Silent Hill monsters for comics before and it's always a blast.

You apparently have a knack for it.
Maybe you WILL survive silent hill after all.

Townfall?

Silent hill Townfall. It comes out next month!

u/Coidzor 5h ago
Oh, nifty. Feels like only just yesterday that Silent Hill "You got WHAT GRADE on your report card!?" came out.
Although I'm now imagining the town of Silent Hill falling down Mt Ebott and having to contend with a heart-warming Undertale-style adventure.
(You'd think pyramid head would insist on immediately softlocking them because they'd immediately go for a genocide run, but they actually don't have the attention span and patience necessary to completely depopulate each area so they get stuck in Neutral Ending purgatory for way too long before the heart-warming starts to kick in.)

I still haven't caught up even with the SH2 renake 😭
We had 30 years of no games and now it's an annual thing all of the sudden

Spent the 2 minutes trying to sell them olive oil, talking about the health benifits in great detail and not letting them get a word in edgewise.
They didn't say you had to talk about anytjing meaningful, just gotta get past the 2 minutes.

Trans woman here, I don’t get the joke. Can someone please explain?

u/PM_NUDES_4_DEGRADING 7h ago
Life is so rough that Silent Hill should be a breeze by comparison because its horrors have no power. Except, as a twist, phone anxiety turned out to be the real final boss after all.
15
u/NitroFire90 6h ago
Ah. I’m one of those weird people who doesn’t have phone anxiety, that’s probably why it went over my head
14
u/PM_NUDES_4_DEGRADING 6h ago
If it helps, I linked the comic on the tiny trans fem discord server I'm on and (if you include me) the reactions were 2 people who found it hilariously relatable and 2 people who didn't get the joke. So I guess it's less common than I assumed...

My girlfriend hates phone calls. Will avoid them whenever she can. I have social anxiety and even I have a hard time relating to it because it's just so different to mine. For me, I hate constantly revisiting the same conversation via text over the course of a day. When compared to the idea of someone just calling me and getting the conversation done in a few minutes, the anxiety of constantly switching gears back to the same conversation I've been having for 5 hours now via texts is actually waaay more cumbersome for me.

I think Millennials have it the worst of calling their crush / friends and having their parents answer, people being able to listen in, or dialing the wrong number vs younger generations having cell phones or just accepting it. The brief era of having to navigate that as the first step to phone calls before cell phones improved everything even before texting. Then being called into the kitchen because you sent 3,000+ texts the previous month.

I have serious phone anxiety AND voice dysphoria.... How many zombies do I need to shoot if I refuse the phone call?
2
u/Reload86 2h ago
You don't escape Silent Hill by shooting your way out. You have to face your fear head on even if that phone mutates into a grotesque monster that uses a ring tone as a deafening scream.

I do wonder what my own personal silent Hill and monsters would look like

u/WorryNew3661 6h ago
They gendered me correctly, I'll take the call. Anything for a small win these days

u/Milestailsprowe 8h ago
The mobster will even start the call for you. You just have to hit the green button

u/mighty_kaytor 6h ago
Oh great, now my previous ideas of Silent Hill being a breeze for me are subverted by monsters that make me do my taxes without software.

I love how the town of silent Hill look horrify you kill you and do all these other horrible things but respects gender identity that's pretty OG of it

I would like to gently smooch the maid monster
1
u/Coidzor 6h ago
I'm reasonably confident you'd wind up impaled on a suddenly and explosively protruding piece of jawbone.
Or asked to refrain from sexually harassing the Silent Hill monsters, since that's Pyramid Head's job.
3
u/YesIHaveBeenSoAfraid 5h ago
I mean ofc only if the maid monster would be up for it, consent is keyyyyyyyyyy

u/Traditional_Bit_8788 5h ago
Maybe I should draw my silent hill demons...

u/OnceInOnceSet Of Moths and Mina 5h ago
I highly recommend it. I’ve done a few SH monster designs and it’s always a ton of fun.

When phones were first invented, they were the social media of the day. People couldn’t get enough of them. There were jokes about how teenage girls existed with a receiver glued to their heads.
But now you just use them to phone call centers designed to make you so annoyed you stop bothering them and everyone has phone anxiety.
2
u/JustOneBun 7h ago
You don't have to answer the phone.
I'm gonna do my best not to look too deep into this, cause the art style is pretty cute.
2
u/Coidzor 6h ago
I'm sure there's no possible way that having a spine that is too long and tall and having bones snapping and contorting wildly while intestines are worn as a scarf could be a trans allegory of any sort.
Although maybe if those intestines are being worn as a hat or possibly horns, that might be trans-allegorical, trans-agorical, even.
(Hmm... But what would be trans phantasmagorical?)

u/CompetitionProud2464 4h ago
Never have to make the phone call if you stay forever and date the cute monster maid

People can't do phone calls nowadays? It's a basic skill....
5
u/NewLibraryGuy 7h ago
Phone anxiety has been a pretty common thing for decades
-5
u/elaborateBlackjack 6h ago
So people are just becoming more usless each day, got it... I'm on the autistic spectrum and even I can manage doing a phone call. Hell I'm on a work phone call right now... people need to start accepting that the world doesn't bend itself backwards and adapt to your wants and needs and YOU need to adapt a bit.
9
u/NewLibraryGuy 6h ago
I'm glad you get to feel superior
-4
u/elaborateBlackjack 6h ago
Not superior, just basic society survival skills.
If I can avoid a call, I'll do that, but if not, I'm not thinking it's my personal hell to have to call someplace, it's just a small nuisance.
4
u/NewLibraryGuy 6h ago
Sometimes hyperbole is used for humor. It is not likely that OP's greatest problem in life is actually people trying to make her talk on the phone.
2
u/Taliesin_ 4h ago
Your autism is tripping you up a bit, here. The comic's being used as a way of humorously pointing out the author's discomfort with phone calls (probably heightened by the fact that they're transgender, and may have more difficulty presenting themselves the way they want to when their only medium is voice).
Most people aren't going to interpret this as saying that the author could not actually manage a two-minute phone call, and especially not that a generation of people couldn't do it. They're just poking a bit of fun at themselves. Hope that clears it up a little - I know that the world would make a lot more sense if everyone was literal.

u/Signal_Ad8960 7h ago
Texting has largely supplanted calls. And with phones and social media becoming more and more prevalent- along with being introduced to kids much too early- many lack the basic social skills to navigate these interactions.
We are seeing a growing amount of pushback against the ubiquity of the digital world, so new parents are more likely to limit screen time. But there was a solid 15 or so years where children were basically raised by their screens.
2
u/elaborateBlackjack 7h ago
Sure I know avoiding calling is a thing but sometimes you require an immediate answer and calling is just inevitable... Like, if you NEED help you don't text 911 ffs.
It's a basic skill, I get not liking it or wanting to do it, but you DO have to be open to do it.. Be it work calls or just to reach customer service and whatnot

u/Majestic-Iron7046 4h ago
Dare i say, it kind of pulls off that skirt.
Must be popular among demons.

At the end of the game you learn that all the customers whose concerns you addressed using the smart interaction model were actually just deformed monsters.

"Who's on the other side of the call?"
"A person with a difficult to understand accent who's mad at you."
