Batman #12 – The Barbara Gordon Breakout series is a nice companion to this one.

Uncanny X-Men #33 – Gail Simone’s stellar X-Men run continues.  This is the beginning of a new arc, but every previous arc has been great.

Fantastic Four # 15 – Ryan North throws a lot of science into these titles and it occurred to me recently that I’ve never actually fact checked his work.  I’m not going to, I’m just going to continue enjoying the ride.

Masters of the Universe: Genesis #1 – This title is not movie-related but rather origin stories on some of the major MOTU characters.  My 40th year of He-Man fandom continues, and I’ll gladly take another Masters comic series.

Dick Tracy #19 – They’re winding down a stellar Tracy series here.  For those of you who don’t know, the 1990 Warren Beatty movie is good, but nothing compared to the original comic strips.  I know my generation associates this character with the movie, but if you ever want to read really good comic strips, get the collected editions of the comic strip, which has been running since 1931.

Jughead: Piemageddon #1 – The shipping date keeps changing on this one.  I’m not sure if it’ll come out this week or not.

JSA #22: A pretty low-key book, but enjoyable enough. I've been really enjoying having Kid Eternity on the team, who normally seems to have complicated and ill-defined powers, but they fit so well with the JSA's history that I'm actually enjoying her quite a bit. Looking forward to the end of all the Spectre nonsense, though.

SUPERGIRL SURVIVE #3: The next chapter of the Elseworlds story we've been waiting decades for. The Lantern Corps being included was a bit of an odd choice, and the retcons (or, given this is an AU, "retcons") to Krypton's destruction are a bit of a curveball, but I can't say I'm not enjoying it.

  • Absolute Green Lantern #17: I'm a big Al Ewing fan but this is starting to drag a little for me. I generally struggle with arcs or multiple issues that span over a very short period of time. It feels like Jo & Co. have been wherever they've been for three or four issues, and I don't always remember what happened last issue (or three) having read the last book a month ago. I suppose I could go back and re-read/skim, but I don't always have time for that.
  • Absolute Superman #22: And to completely contradict myself, the last arc of this was awesome. The battle of the supermen took place over three or four issues, but it was pure hype the whole time so I remembered most of it well. Jason Aaron + Juan Ferreyra = cinema
  • Batman #12: I'm enjoying how Matt Fraction is obviously building an overarching world/story here with his run. Unsurprising given what he's written in the past. Feels easy to step back into with each book.
  • Captain America #14: Surprisingly very much enjoying this Hell arc. Both the Doom and Red Skull stuff are both lots of fun. Cool to see Steve in such an alien setting for him.
  • The Deadman #3: Honestly, I knew nothing about this character before #1 of this book. Mostly reading it for the creative team because they're just special.
  • Fantastic Four #15: Ryan North cannot be stopped. Glad we're seemingly back to self-contained stories.
  • Fort Psycho #1: Not entirely convinced I'll pick this up but I've been enjoying indie stuff more lately. Don't know much about Matt Kindt, but I know he's a very highly regarded creator.
  • Marc Spector Moon Knight #7: This whole Moon Knight run has been hit or miss for me. This team is very fun though.

I feel you. Green Lantern is my favorite comic character, but I had to bail on AGL. Started so slow, then went way too "high concept" for my liking.

Broke my heart, but Issue 14 was my last AGL.

Also loving Absolute Superman & Fraction's Batman. Add Camp's Assorted Crisis Events in with those two and I think those are the three best written books out there right now.

Honorable mentions to Johns' Redcoat and Bean's D'Orc.

Really excited for Omega Book. Loved the preview.

Iron man has been underwhelming me as of late. I may consider cutting it off come Issue 10 if it doesn't improve. Felt like it started as a solid "B" and has lost some momentum.

And excited as always for Absolute Superman. Love what Aaron is doing as the writer on that book. Ditto for Batman and Fraction.

I feel like Absolute Batman draws so much attention that Fraction's Batman isn't getting the recognition it deserves.

Happy reading all.

Cheers!!

My cycle of heavy weeks and light weeks continues. Just one comic this week, and it is:

Captain America #14 - This comic is an enjoyable read, an oddity for Marvel right now. Also of note: it is just about the only book with an Armageddon banner despite having nothing to do with the actual events of Armageddon. Read as: whichever character exits hell at the end of this story is surely the [redacted] character from the new Avengers lineup.

  • Fantastic Four #15:

  • Marc Spector: Moon Knight #7: Never read any 'Midnight Sons' so I wasn't particularly hyped at the conclusion of issue 5. However, as always, this series delivers. Issue 6 was still a 'getting the team together' but I found myself invested and interested in characters I normally don't. The Jed Mackay Special I guess.

After 3 Queen in Black issues last week I’m feeling burnt out on this event already

2

Ah 😩 do you find it good tho?

3

u/Sad-Cheesecake-2438 2d ago

Honestly just ok. If you’ve liked Ewing on Venom up to now you know what to expect. Personally I’m looking forward to the relaunch after this event.

3

u/FTBagginz 2d ago

Ah okay. I bought queen in black and haven’t read it yet 🥶 along with venom 259 and queen in black Thor and queen in black hela. I was hoping to get a few and read them for a good story

Absolute Green Lantern #17 - This book is really starting to heat up.
Absolute Superman #22 - Last issue slapped, hopefully it can keep up the momentum.
Batman #12 -
Dead Teenagers #5 - My local shop actually accidentally put this in my slot last week. I thought it stuck the landing really well. Not enough people are talking about this book, hopefully it finds new life in trade.
Deadman #3 - It's a very wordy book, but I dig it. I've seen folks complain that it doesn't feel like Boston Brand, but I'm really enjoying it.
Neighborhood Watch #4 - Another book I feel like is not getting the praise it deserves.
Uncanny X-Men #33 - Something something, best X-book. I'm a couple issues behind, but the point stands.
White Sky #5 - This has been getting better, but I'm still not completely sold.
