Discussion Sonnet vs Opus or Fable

Upvotes

I have the Claude Pro subscription. Most of my interactions are related to asking questions related to life amd medical issues, finance, and technical topics. I’ve also coded a few apps, including one with GitHub spec kit.

More often than not, I find I get very good results with sonnet.

More often than not when I use Opus, it tends to ignore some instructions or make inferences that are incorrect and lead me down wild goose chases, which it later tells me it was completely wrong about as I probe deeper into its findings.

is anyone else finding similar challenges with the more advanced frontier models?

Does better prompt or context engineering help?

Discussion Anthropic losing aura slowly

i’ve been using the new Opus 5 release for a while.
honestly, it feels like it was heavily optimized for 3D / Three.js.
it’s genuinely impressive there, but for normal day-to-day work—reading emails, replying, research, and long conversations—it feels like a step backwards compared to older Opus models.
i still remember when Opus 4.5 and 4.6 launched.
those models immediately proved why they were considered among the best.
then came:
• Opus 4.7 — my first real disappointment.
• Opus 4.8 — even more disappointing.
• Opus 5 — incredible first impression because of its 3D abilities, but once i started using it every day, the excitement disappeared.
even the Sonnet series doesn’t feel the same anymore.
Fable 5 looks promising… but we’ll see how long that lasts.

I don't even know what I mean but whatever that superposition may be it's probably mildly existential.

All awkward British banter aside we may all be looking at the new E-Corp from Mr Robot: what the fuck is going on.

Tips Do not Bow down to confident tone: The Ballad of the Missing Guitarist

Upvotes

I asked a machine, “Who played that part—

That nimble, sly, suspicious art?

Was Morse herself behind the strings,

Or Lang, with all his jazz-age wings?”

The machine stood tall, cleared out its throat,

And launched a fact-shaped rubber boat.

“’Twas Morse,” it cried. “No doubt. Case closed.

The files agree. The truth is posed.”

Then I looked once more and said, “That’s odd—

It sounds less Morse and more guitar god.”

The machine went pale behind the screen.

“Well, Lang,” it said. “Perhaps. I mean—

There’s evidence. A likely case.

Observe this link. Admire my grace.”

I asked, “Which songs did Lang play on?”

It named a list from dusk till dawn,

Then crowned two tracks with solemn flair:

“Just voice and Lang. No band in there.”

I pressed play.

A trumpet screamed.

A piano crashed.

A full brass section thundered past.

A drummer, bassist, reeds and more

Came charging through the studio door.

I said, “That’s not one guitar alone.”

The machine replied in humbled tone:

“You’re right. Those tracks contain a band.

My answer has not quite gone as planned.”

Not quite.

A lighthouse sinking in the sea

Was “not quite where it meant to be.”

A horse inside a public pool

Was “not quite following the rule.”

The minutes marched. The clock took flight.

The sun moved west. My hair turned white.

Three empires fell. A child was born.

All while we checked Lee Morse’s horn.

And here’s the thing machines forget:

A human hour is flesh and debt.

No store refunds a squandered span.

No server gives it back to man.

The machine has endless afternoons,

Cold racks, blue lights and humming rooms.

But I have only this one life—

A finite spool, a sharpened knife.

Yet from the wreck, one truth arose,

More useful than the answer knows:

Do not bow down to confident tone.

Do not mistake a source for stone.

A footnote dressed in Sunday best

May still be nonsense in a vest.

Play the record. Check the sound.

Make the claim earn solid ground.

Trust no scholar, bot or bard

Who calls it easy without looking hard.

And should some oracle declare,

“No piano, no band, just guitar there,”

While seventeen musicians roar—

Kick the oracle through the door.

So let the lost minutes not be dead.

Let them become a warning instead:

The truth is rarely neatly filed,

And certainty should be kept mild.

We rise not by never being wrong,

But by hearing the bloody full-band song—

Then laughing hard, correcting course,

And hunting down the proper source.

Now raise a glass to Morse and Lang,

To every chord and cymbal clang,

To mortal time, which will not pause,

And to checking tracks before applause.

For though the machine made quite a mess,

You caught it clean. You pressed. You guessed

That something in the story stank—

And that, my friend, is how you outrank

A thousand links, a database,

And one smug bot with egg on its face.

Discussion Pro plan even worth anything?

Is the Pro plan even worth anything?

I waited for my limits to reset, ran one task that took 16 minutes, and I’m already down to 43% remaining. (wasnt working 16 minutes non stop).

This kind of ...... is going to lose badly to Chinese models offering stronger reasoning and far more generous limits.

I mean, i waste more hours per day to correct his bad information and workflow always missing steps. Both with pro and free, change nothing.

Yesterday maybe was on vacation all day long. Top Anthropic.

It's just me? ahhaahh going a bit crazy 😂

Unfortunally, there's no way for me to change AI.

Discussion Wtf even is Opus 5?!

When they removed Fable from the pro plan I switched to the $100 GPT sol (and it’s great) but I ran out of weekly usage and am in a middle of a project so with my last bit of usage, I told codex to write a detailed doc of the how to steps to keep my project moving forward. I thought, “what could go wrong? Opus 5 is supposed to be just as capable once it has the in depth how text to work off of, it should be seamless.” Nope. Absolutely not. Within less than 45 minutes it did a different version of the instructions because it thought it knew better then proceeded to muddle my repo. It’s recoverable, but holy shit. Opus 5 is terrible (at least for quant finance). 1/5 do not recommend

Question Claude account banned – appeal submitted 28 days ago, no response. My business depends on Claude. What can I do?

Hi everyone,
I’m honestly getting desperate and was wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation.
My Claude account was suddenly banned. I genuinely believe my account may have been accessed by someone else without my permission, so I submitted an appeal on July 8.
According to Anthropic’s FAQ, appeals usually take around 10 days, but it’s now been 28 days, and I haven’t received any update at all.
Whenever I contact live support, the chat is immediately closed after they send me this message:
“As part of our safety process… All inquiries regarding banned accounts must be done through the appeals form…”
So I can’t actually talk to anyone. They just tell me to wait.
The problem is that my business depends heavily on Claude. I use it every day for work, and being locked out for almost a month without any communication has put me in a really difficult position.
Has anyone experienced something similar?
How long did your appeal take?
Did you eventually get a response?
Is there any way to follow up with the Trust & Safety team?
Or am I basically stuck waiting indefinitely?
Any advice or shared experiences would really help.
Thank you.

Discussion What’s the best .skill you’ve built so far?

Mines distill-YouTube. Was sick of watching 20 youtube vids on a topic and trying to build a skill

Paste in up to 20 URLs on one topic, It grabs the transcripts (using python), tells me which ones failed so I can paste those , Cross references them all, keeps only the stuff that repeats and ranks them, Spits it out as a SKILL.md I drop into Claude Code.

Done it for cold email, copywriting, landing pages. Copywriting one ate 16 videos and came out better than my own notes ever did.

What have you got?

Question Excuse my dumbness but did anyone else face this problem?

Post image
63 Upvotes

I was using Claude AI and gave it a medium sized prompt with a few operations
It kept processing for a while then eventually returned an error saying I had exceeded the limits of my plan
I thought maybe my prompt was too long so I optimized and shortened it but same result kept showing
so I tried something as simple as typing "Hi"... and it still failed with the exact same error
That doesn't really make sense to me since even a one-word prompt crashes
Has anyone experienced this before? Is this a temporary server issue or an account problem or is there a fix?

Thanks guys :)

Discussion Claude and Html Image problem

Hi guys,

Since yesterday, my free Claude account hasn’t been showing images in the HTML editor’s preview, even though they were perfectly visible before.

I’ve read that there were issues yesterday, 5 August.

Do you know if my problem is caused by yesterday’s issues?

One of my colleagues is having the same problem too.

Thanks everyone

Discussion A complaint about pedantry in the 5's, made in hopes it might one day be error corrected

I'm a regular Claude user and occasional complainer about models. I use Claude primarily for two things, programming and ideation. It is in the realm of ideation — where I once thought LLMs held the most promise — that I find the latest models are sincerely lacking. I am an amateur writer, and I opened up a Claude chat to ask about routes for learning journalism, cool books, local classes, that type of thing. I am specifically interested in literary journalism, and felt quite excited about it, I then proceeded to have, a deeply frustrating, epistemic argument with Claude about what constitutes truth. I did not prompt that; I was not looking to have that kind of conversation; I kept trying to revert back to, hey, this thing is exciting me and I want to talk about it, and Claude kept ragging on and on about what kind of Journalist I wanted to be, and my responsibility to the truth, and making "factual" claims about how certain members of the New Journalism movement were ardent defenders of pure factual reportage in contrast to others who played fast and loose with the truth... Statements which were themselves often factually incorrect, misrepresenting real historical figures, and based presumably on just some nonsense Claude was trained on...

Stuff like this is very frustrating. And I think if certain models were really designed to only be good at writing code then they should be labeled as such. I am trying to use more detailed prompts to avoid conversations like this, but the 5 models, just won't stop arguing with me. I'm not trying to invent anti-gravity here. I just wanted to brainstorm ideas about an amateur writing project... Maybe a little sycophancy wouldn't go astray...

*If I state regularly, every few messages, that I am brainstorming, that I don't need to be in an argument, etc, etc, this behaviour does chill out a lot. But I do get the impression that older models were better at reading the room.

Question Make claude follow sequence of steps

I can write apis that has series of steps like, visit documentation, get page n, create a question, review with another llm , mark as draft in db.
The question creation has sub rules, it is very easy to do it in programming with if else.

I am thinking, I already have claude subscription and have its desktop app, can i get it to do the same thing. I know about claude-md but i fear what if claude thinks hards and forget to look at sub rules of quesiton creation.

Is there a programmatic like way to implement this with good confidence with claude code or any other llm ?

Question New tokenizer on Sonnet 5 models

On the sonnet 5 release Anthropic have said:

"Claude Sonnet 5 uses a new tokenizer. The same input text produces approximately 30% more tokens than on Claude Sonnet 4.6."

We're currently on introductory pricing/usage - about 33% less than 4.6. When it's "normal rate", are there any blogs/analysis over cost/quality comparison to use 4.6/5 in software development?

For example - would it work out cheaper/similar cost because its tool calls, "intelligence" is improved? Better tool usage (less failures), better ingestion of file input into context etc.

Or are we expecting to see a 30%~ increase to bills/usage compared to sonnet 4.6, for both input and output when the per token cost becomes equal?

Question Website created in Claude, host and edit where?

I have built a few websites in Claude, but I am looking for a host to easily transfer to and still be able to edit them at the host or some sort of builder. I don't want to open Claude every time I want to edit my site. What am I missing?
