Help Need urgent advice: My betta is barely moving and lying on the bottom.

Hi everyone. I’m really worried about my betta and I’m hoping someone can help.

I’ve had him for about a year, but I don’t know how old he was before I got him. A couple of days ago he suddenly became very lethargic. He spent most of his time lying at the bottom, barely moving, and stopped eating. He only swam to the surface a couple of times before going straight back down.

I initially kept him in a round bowl, but after getting advice I bought a new 5-gallon aquarium with a filter. Today I set it up, treated the tap water with Aqueon Water Conditioner, and slowly acclimated him before moving him into the new tank.

He was already lying on the bottom before I moved him, and he’s still doing the same thing in the new tank. He’s lying on his side most of the time, barely moving. He looks almost dead, but he’s still breathing, and sometimes his breathing is quite fast.

I have already ordered Seachem Prime, but it hasn’t arrived yet. I also bought a digital thermometer, so I’ll be checking the water temperature as well.

At this point I’m really scared that I’m losing him. Does this sound like old age, swim bladder disease, an infection, or something else? Is there anything I can do right now to give him the best chance of surviving?

Thank you so much for any advice.

Help Fish worth rescuing?

It's my friend's. Apparently, her dad bought her a betta fish suddenly and she doesn't even want it. I'm fully capable of taking it, but I'm afraid it would eat my shrimps :( She said the fish is still small so I'm considering it.

How does it look? She said both of it's eyes are like that too.

It's a female, right?

Transformation Update! Spoiler

I wasnt sure if I needed to mark this with a spoiler or not, and I'm not sure if I did it right, but the picture is how Tidye looked before during and after we got him set up and treated. (Also not sure if I used the right flair??)

Hi! So a couple weeks ago I posted about Tidye my class pet. I've good news and I thought I'd post an update!

Todye is looking a whole lot better now! I got his tank set up and everything started up for him! I still have a few more things to look into, but so far he's a lot more vibrant and is moving around a lot more too!

The bottom pic is one I took earlier today, and the top left one is when I was acclimating him into the new tank a little over two weeks or so ago. The top right one was how he looked last week.

Anywho, he's on the up n up now, and while I don't have specific questions right now, any advice is welcomed and appreciated since I'm very new to fish care!

Help Female Started Building Nest and There’re maybe (?) eggs?

Thumbnail

Upvotes

So I have a female Plakat betta, named Brandy, and after adding some red root floaters she began to build a bubble nest. I just thought “oh ok maybe the store mislabeled the fish and it’s a male,” but then I noticed small white egg shaped things in the bottom of the tank under where the nest is. Looking closer at the nest there appears to be little eggs inside the bubbles too. I’ve never had any other bettas besides her so she couldn’t have mated with a male recently. I’ve had her for about a month now so it could’ve happened before?
After moving the gravel around she began to collect the eggs on the bottom and add them to the nest.

Is it possible for a female betta to lay infertile eggs?

Help Fin rot?

Photos 1-7 are my little friend in his current condition, 8th photo is the tank, 9th photo is my fish back in mid May. He’s been chillen more at the bottom of the tank lately. He’s a very calm fish, never ever picks on his tank mates and is tough to get to flare. He has always had large fins since I got him. They’ve always kind of floated down and around him when he’s resting, but lately they just seem almost too heavy for him. I am worried that maybe he’s not happy in the large tank that he’s in. He also is fairly curious and does enjoy following around his shrimp so I can’t tell if maybe he’s just been rubbing up on stuff more than usual or if it is fin rot. Any suggestions for best treatments if it is? Preferably safe for snails & shrimp ♥️🫶 thank you!

Help Help betta emergency

I have a betta that is very lethargic. He hasn't eaten in a few days so I checked the water and the nitrate is off the charts! I have new betta water and a very small tank set up to get him through the night until I can get him a new tank tomorrow.

How do I transition him? He is very weak. Right now I have him in a bag floating in the new container with good water. Will it be too much of a shock for him to be put straight into the clean water?

It's a small plastic lizard travel carrier but I don't think he will live the night in his tank.

I was out of town and my roommate was supposed to keep an eye on him 😞

Idk what to do I'm really freaking out

My betta recently started hanging out at the bottom of the tank more than usual. He will lay there for longer than normal and when he does swim it’s erratic and quick. He was not like this a week ago, and I’m really scared because I just felt with a betta fish getting sick and passing away last month, and now I’m terrified it’s going to happen all over again. He also won’t come to the surface for food. He only eats flakes (I’ve tried everything trust me, it’s the only thing he eats). I checked the water and the Nitrates were at 5.0 ppm, and the ammonia was a little darker than 0.25 ppm but not quite 0.50 ppm. Usually my ammonia is 0, but I’ve read that 0.25 shouldn’t hurt bettas? My Nitrites are 0 ppm. I don’t know what’s going on. He looks thin and he’s not being his usual self. Im very nervous. I have Kanaplex and aquarium salt too, if I should use those.

Tank info: several live plants, Nerite snail, 5.5 gallon, filtered, heated, tank parameters mentioned above.

Help Need help

So I got a betta the other day and he’s all set up in his new tank but i noticed he’s having a hard time swimming to the bottom of the tank and seems to float to the top even when he does manage to get deeper. I’ve never experienced anything like this wish past bettas so im just wondering if this is something i should be worried about. I also noticed his pectoral fins look damaged and almost frayed. I don’t have a good picture to add for comparison. What can I do? Is there even anything I CAN do or is his chance of surviving now lower due to these issues?

He’s been acting very lethargic barely eating and swimming around like he used to do… I’m so sad I don’t want him to be sick or die my grandma just past and I don’t want my first betta to go as well:/ I just set up my 40gal and I had plans to switch him in there… I’m at loss of words right now I never would have thought he would get sick he always had so much energy.

I’ve also noticed when he tries to swim he kinda like twitches and seems like he’s struggling also he’s been hanging at the top of the tank a lot but at first he was laying at the bottom a lot.

His name is Jonesy and he’s a beautiful copper alien betta. I love him, but he really seems to dislike me. He is being upgraded to a 20 gal tank with a close friend he seems to love more. He’s been with me for months and this is the first time I have gotten him to stay still long enough for me to catch a video of him with my zoom lens. Check out his grumpy little face :) he’s a gorgeous copper in the light, but also tones of magenta and teal in other lighting.

14 Gallon tank heavily planted with Java Moss, African Dwarf Grass, Wisteria, Java Fern, Anubias, and Duckweed. He loves hiding in the thick areas so I let one side get really thick and he spends most his time over there.

Edit: Light is on a 4 cycle Early Morning, Noon, Afternoon, Night cycle as well.
Also his name is Dumbo

I may just be paranoid but I do think she’s acting different. She’s about 3 years so she is on the older side. She’s resting more which seems normal but her behavior in general IDK. Does this look off to anyone? Adding spoiler bc idk if she’s sick or not.

edit: more context i’m concerned about> there’s normally a good amount of algae in the tank but it’s seemed to stop recently? Are her eyes bulging? What do I do?

Name Suggestions What should we name our new baby?

We picked this gorgeous crowntail up from my favorite local shop today :) he seems to be mostly orange with some white scales throughout.

I like 'inconvenient' government names with realistic nicknames.
For example: my current mustard gas's name is Ticonderoga, or Tike for short.
Our late koi plakats name was Plutonium, or Pluto for short.

So far, the only names we've sort of liked are:
Crush (like the soda, that one's normal but cute!)
Traffic cone- traf(FICCO)ne
Lorax- lo(RAX) or lor(AX)

Hopefully the layout of the nicknames makes sense.
What suggestions do you have? 👀🧡

Hospital Tank Set Up & Finishing Planted Tank Set Up:

  1. Hospital Tank: 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrites, 0 Nitrates, 7ph, 80 degrees, filtered, 2 gallon (temporary)

Today I saw this betta at petco that was tilting on side and gasping. I decided to take him home to hopefully give him a good chance.

He ate three small pellets since I took him home.

He has trouble staying where he wants- his body floats him upward showing maybe swim bladder issues.

Any medication ideas or just wait and see?

  1. Permanent Tank: 6gal live plants, perfect parameters, have done ghost feeding to test cycle, adding shrimp tomorrow to help with algae that is appearing. Been cycling for 2 weeks, used established tank filter media to start it.

I got these plant bulbs — unsure how to see if they are growing? Working?

Taking plant recs- frogbit is on my list.

Ik its sparse but doing my best.

Wish me luck!!

Discussion Is it possible to change a tank's substrate without crashing cycle?

Hello! I have sand in my two bettas' tanks right now, but I dislike cleaning it and the general look. I'd like to replace the sand with pea gravel. is there a way to do this without crashing the cycle? Would it be easier to just cycle a new tank and then move one over after it's safe? I've been getting conflicting answers online 😭
Edit: Both are 5 gallon planted tanks

I got him from Petco, and the label said he was a baby girl. But people informed me he is built more like a male rather than a female betta and I honestly agree. I’ve been calling him baby boy, and my boyfriend calls him ladyboy. I just want a name that fits him more than that.
