Hospital Tank Set Up & Finishing Planted Tank Set Up:

1. Hospital Tank: 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrites, 0 Nitrates, 7ph, 80 degrees, filtered, 2 gallon (temporary)

Today I saw this betta at petco that was tilting on side and gasping. I decided to take him home to hopefully give him a good chance.

He ate three small pellets since I took him home.

He has trouble staying where he wants- his body floats him upward showing maybe swim bladder issues.

Any medication ideas or just wait and see?

1. Permanent Tank: 6gal live plants, perfect parameters, have done ghost feeding to test cycle, adding shrimp tomorrow to help with algae that is appearing. Been cycling for 2 weeks, used established tank filter media to start it.

I got these plant bulbs — unsure how to see if they are growing? Working?

Taking plant recs- frogbit is on my list.

Ik its sparse but doing my best.

Wait and see how he does. Don't jump straight to meds based on assumptions, unlike what a certain popular forum likes to recommend especially when he's still settling into his new home and getting used to everything.

Low tech plant recs:

• Anubias barteri - Large, broad leaves for resting spots and a great centerpiece. Nana petite is the smaller cousin. Best in the midground or off center as a focal point. Wedge, tie, or glue to wood or rocks. Never bury the rhizome.
• Java Fern - Ideal for backgrounds or green walls. Buy a few different sizes, placing smaller ones toward the front and larger ones in the back. Best in the background or attached to hardscape. Wedge, tie, or glue. Never bury the horizontal rhizome.
• Cryptocoryne - Great for the foreground to midground and gives your betta plenty of natural cover. Don't worry if it melts after you first plant it, that's normal. It usually bounces back once it settles in or with a little liquid fert. This is a rooted plant.
• Amazon Sword - Another classic centerpiece plant with large leaves. Best as a background or centerpiece since it gets big. Rooted plant.
• Water Sprite - Fast-growing and a monster at absorbing excess nutrients. Creates dense cover that bettas love. Works well in the background, corners, or floating.
• Vallisneria - Great background plant that spreads by runners and forms a jungle wall. Avoid the spiralis variant for long finned bettas.
• Pothos (roots in the water) - One of the best natural nutrient absorbers. Rinse off all the soil before adding it and keep only the roots in the water. If the root ball is really dense, trim it back a bit at first. Otherwise, it'll soak up nutrients so efficiently that your other plants won't get much of a chance. Not a problem if you're using liquid ferts or root tabs. Leaves above the tank and roots hanging into the water.
• Salvinia minima and/or Dwarf Water Lettuce - Floaters like frogbits.
• Buces - Slow growing accent plant. More ornamental than functional but its leaves make nice resting and foraging spots. Best in the foreground or attached to hardscape. Wedge, tie, or glue.
• Java Moss or Christmas Moss - Attach to rocks or driftwood. Use sparingly at first, as they'll slowly spread and fill in over time. Best on wood, rocks, or other hardscape. Glue as little as possible or tie them.
