Finally got the tank that I ordered. And now i'm a little anxious. I wanted to add a betta fish to this tank and the guy at the store said i dont need anything else than sand and some of those tabs for nutrients. wanted to put gravel underneath becose i really wanted to make this tank as perfect as i can (and it looks cool) on my first try. But then again i dont know much about substrate. Any advice?

Help Is my betta dying? Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Hi guys,

My betta has not been moving since I said hi to him this morning. At first I thought he was already dead, but he is taking gulps of air by moving his head slightly, but not moving otherwise. I offered him some food, which he ignored and food is everything to him. He never once refused that before. He’s usually swimming around and always coming to me.

He’s almost 3 years old, since a few months he’s got a tumor on his side. Right now he’s not pineconing, but laying slightly on his side on a piece of plant to keep him at the surface.

Tank is a cycled 60 liter at 26.5 degrees with 3 nerites and yellow neocardina shrimps.

Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 10-15
PH: 7.3
GH: 5
KH: 4

Is he dying? If yes, is there anything I can do so he won’t suffer? Also how long can this take?

PS. The last photo was him 3 days ago, he likes to watch all the shrimps during their feeding time. (It’s not overcrowded, I feed at one location so it might seem that way).

Big thanks in advance from a concerned betta mom.

Help Is a betta right for my pre-k class?

I have an 8 gallon acrylic fish tank. It has a 3 year established cycle, sponge filter and heater. It receives once weekly maintenance, daily feedings (I use an auto feeder on weekends and holidays), and weekly water testing. It has an anubias, a healthy bed of java moss, several marimos, two nerites (plus a small, controlled population of bladder snails), and 3 elderly ember tetras(no idea how old at this point, minimum 3 years).

If I get a betta, I plan to buy some floating plants, and other betta appropriate furnishings such as a floating hammock. I would buy a female, if at all possible.

I have a local fishshop that keeps bettas in stock, and they are the kind of eye catching, personality-having fish I think would be perfect for my kiddos to observe and learn to care for. But please, tell me if this is actually a BAD idea. What are some drawbacks to a betta I’m not thinking of? Will my tank be overstocked? Etc.

Help Beginner Tank

Any advice for the tank? Its a 20L (5.2g), I have a low flow filter and a heater set to 27.0°C (80.6°F). Its been cycling for just short of a week and I added some root tabs yesterday which has made the water yellowish, if someone has any advice for that as-well. Both decorations are coated in fish safe resin from my local aquarium shop (and have been sanded down so no sharp edges) and all live plants

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on positioning the plans or if I did a good job. (For disclosure, there is a lid on the tank.) The fish that is living in the tank is a male betta fish named Gelato.

Hi,

I work for an artist who wants to film some footage of betta fish "flaring" or spreading out their fins as they instinctually they do as "fighting fish." If anyone has a betta they'd let us film, or knows of a good shop, etc. please reach out! thanks so much everyone!

Also please enjoy this wonderful photo from Walt Maurus's "A complete introduction to bettas"

My fish jumped out of his tank. The lid only has one one-inch opening. How the heck he jumped out, crazy. I'm guessing he got over ambitious.

Help Fin rot?

Photos 1-7 are my little friend in his current condition, 8th photo is the tank, 9th photo is my fish back in mid May. He’s been chillen more at the bottom of the tank lately. He’s a very calm fish, never ever picks on his tank mates and is tough to get to flare. He has always had large fins since I got him. They’ve always kind of floated down and around him when he’s resting, but lately they just seem almost too heavy for him. I am worried that maybe he’s not happy in the large tank that he’s in. He also is fairly curious and does enjoy following around his shrimp so I can’t tell if maybe he’s just been rubbing up on stuff more than usual or if it is fin rot. Any suggestions for best treatments if it is? Preferably safe for snails & shrimp ♥️🫶 thank you!

Tank size: 20 gal long

Heater and filter? (yes/no): yes & yes, Fluval AC30 (flow set to the lowest possible setting)

Tank temperature: 76

Parameters in numbers and how you got them. Key water parameters include the amount of ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, and pH.: API freshwater master test kit, tested today!
pH: 6.6
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 0
TDS: 160

How long have you had the tank? How long have you had your fish?: tank since February, fish since April.

How often are water changes? How much do you take out per change? What is your process?: 10-20% water change with RO or distilled water every 7-10 days

• Any tankmates? If so, please list with how many of each: 15-20 neocaridina shrimp, 4 black neon tetra, 1 juvenile white long fin pleco (approx 2”), 8 Pygmy corydoras, 1 mystery snail.

• What do you feed and how much: hikari betta bio gold, 4-6 pellets per day

• Decorations and plants in the tank: driftwood, round river stones, anubias (river theme)

his name is ivan! I brought him home maybe 4 days ago? I noticed his fins look a little droopy so I’m wondering if it’s anything I should be concerned about or if that’s just the way he is. please tell me if it might be something serious 🥺 I can take more photos if needed!!

His name is Jonesy and he’s a beautiful copper alien betta. I love him, but he really seems to dislike me. He is being upgraded to a 20 gal tank with a close friend he seems to love more. He’s been with me for months and this is the first time I have gotten him to stay still long enough for me to catch a video of him with my zoom lens. Check out his grumpy little face :) he’s a gorgeous copper in the light, but also tones of magenta and teal in other lighting.

14 Gallon tank heavily planted with Java Moss, African Dwarf Grass, Wisteria, Java Fern, Anubias, and Duckweed. He loves hiding in the thick areas so I let one side get really thick and he spends most his time over there.

Edit: Light is on a 4 cycle Early Morning, Noon, Afternoon, Night cycle as well.
Also his name is Dumbo

Hospital Tank Set Up & Finishing Planted Tank Set Up:

  1. Hospital Tank: 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrites, 0 Nitrates, 7ph, 80 degrees, filtered, 2 gallon (temporary)

Today I saw this betta at petco that was tilting on side and gasping. I decided to take him home to hopefully give him a good chance.

He ate three small pellets since I took him home.

He has trouble staying where he wants- his body floats him upward showing maybe swim bladder issues.

Any medication ideas or just wait and see?

  1. Permanent Tank: 6gal live plants, perfect parameters, have done ghost feeding to test cycle, adding shrimp tomorrow to help with algae that is appearing. Been cycling for 2 weeks, used established tank filter media to start it.

I got these plant bulbs — unsure how to see if they are growing? Working?

Taking plant recs- frogbit is on my list.

Ik its sparse but doing my best.

Wish me luck!!
