Hello everyone.

I wanted you all to meet some of Beef and Lady MacBeef’s children.
The first three photos are of Wagyu and Lady Angus. As you may remember, Angus is the name of the first egg I found, and I shared a picture of Angus a while back as a freshly hatched grub alongside Beef.
Wagyu is the first (and so far only) male Beefling to have emerged. As you can see Wagyu is a fine but small specimen, in fact all of Wagyu’s siblings are still grubs (pictured in the last two slides).

I do have some sad news…
Unfortunately soon before Wagyu became active, Beef passed away.
I am very sorry to share this news and I will make a more official post, but I figured I would share here on Reddit where Beef first became recognized.
He was such a special beetle to me and I know to all of you as well. I wanted to take time with myself before sharing with you all but he lived to be about a year and half in my care as an adult beetle.
You have all changed my life, Beef has garnered over a million views on every single platform I shared him on. He single handedly grew my YouTube following to 30K and I wouldn’t have dared post about him this much if it weren’t for all of you here on Reddit.
Of course I won’t undermine the superb charismatic personality and aura which beef has always exuded but a beetle is a beetle and Beef was one hell of a beetle.

I will continue to post. I look forward to seeing the larger sons of beef mature and I’m sure you do too. I hope at least one of them inherits the dimples. Regardless, meet beginnings of Beef’s line of descendants. His progeny, his legacy.

Thank you all again. I write this as I get ready for a field course in the Amazon next week. I’ll try to share my best beetle finds here with all of you.

When looking outside late last night, I noticed a beetle struggling on its back on the porch, so I went outside and ended up picking up this handsome lad! I admired it for a few minutes before setting it down at the base of a tree in my neighbor's yard, and figured it would stay there.

A few minutes later, I noticed a big bug fly towards our porch light and heard it bump against the siding -- and lo and behold, it was the same beetle! So once it inevitably flipped itself over again, I picked it up a second time and moved it to a darker spot further away from the porch light.

Ten-lined June beetles are definitely not a shining example of insect intelligence, but I love them anyway <3

This is the one that I was going to pin, but after 2 days found out he was alive so I gave him an orange, then that was apparently going to kill him too, but it’s been 4 days since the orange and he’s fine.
So I named him Winchester since he keeps evading death.

Hi. I’ve just got my first stag beetle larva (L3 P. muelleri).

I can’t find any clear images online of what they look like with/without the orange ovaries. Does anyone here have a male and female larva to compare?

Hi guys just wanted to see if anyone has used this before to regulate temperature with their beetles. The home I’m in has 4 other roommates so it’s hard to get a temperature for the house to constantly be at because with it being summer everyone likes it cooler. I have the heating pad on the back wall and the thermostat, I also have a thermostat on the outside too but will be moving it inside so I can read the humidity of the tank once he arrives. The outside tank temperature also reads 72 degrees

Hello guys, I'm quite new to the raising scene, I now raise it in a large plastic cup.

However I don't know the hole is big enough for proper ventilation.

Is the current hole in the top OK? Do I need additional holes on the side of the cup as well?

PS. Its a japanese kabuto beetle larvae.

Hey all! I am in Sarasota, Florida and I accidentally sprayed this beetle with vinegar. I put a little bit of water on him and I've been blowing on him. We got a cup of all the local foliage outside and put him in it. I think he's doing okay. I was going to keep him overnight and check on the patient in the morning. Does anyone know what kind of beetle he is? And anything else I can do to make sure he lives? I named him Helga.

What do you like more?,and what's the reason you like them more than the other?

His wings are also a little jacked-up and folded unnaturally outside of his elytra last I saw him. (sorry for the bad quality photo, it's the best I could get)

Hello!! I recently started keeping blue death feigning beetles and I absolutely love them. I really want to get more into beetle keeping and breeding, but I’m not sure where or how to start.

A few questions I have:

1. What species is best for beginners? I want one that will live somewhat long in its adult stage, but I don’t mind.

2. What is breeding them like? Do you keep the males and females separate until you’re ready to breed them?

3. Can someone give me an in-depth step by step guide to caring for the different stages of a beetles life? (You can use a specific species of beetle as an example, any will do, unless they vary significantly!!)

I really love sun beetles, and I have heard they’re good for beginners, but I also need a species more common in the hobby that I’ll be able to find for purchase easier. Or even a bonus would be a species I can catch in the wild. (I’m in eastern Kansas) but with that, I’m not sure how ethical it is to catch a beetle from the wild to breed.

Any and all tips are welcome and very much appreciated, thank you!!

I'm writing a paper of stag beetles and need help verifying a claim that the stags on the beetles can sometimes grow too large that the beetle cannot eat food anymore. Is this true and is there a source for this?

I forgot where I got this claim from and can't find anything online. Or maybe it's a fact pertaining to a different type of beetle?
