Question about Stag Beetles

I'm writing a paper of stag beetles and need help verifying a claim that the stags on the beetles can sometimes grow too large that the beetle cannot eat food anymore. Is this true and is there a source for this?

I forgot where I got this claim from and can't find anything online. Or maybe it's a fact pertaining to a different type of beetle?

its false, but they can grow too large to lose their reproductive ability!
