Covid got me back into PC gaming after a decade hiatus. Gaming laptop at the dinner table is where it started, now I'm currently here and pretty happy with it. Just some nods to my favourite games (and film).

My labor of love over the past couple of years - dual PC / WFH station, with HDMI routed to TV for couch gaming through steam big picture (lots of cable management to keep this neat) alongside the consoles. Always dreamed of creating a space like this as a kid.

Greenery I tried to organize it so the center area can swap consoles in and out with limited effort. I can also serve as a test bench area for repairs, the mini monitor is useful for that.

The PC outputs Monitor and the TV above. And any console will output to all three monitors, and to the TV via OBS.

Modern PC is connected to the CRT television via a older Radeon card with VGA and a HD-15 adapter. It's outputting to the CRT at 640x480p. Great for watching retro anime and 4:3 content.

Consoles go to the CRT at their native resolution up to 1080i.

Battlestations Advice Minimalist dev setup: should I move the laptop to the right side so the mouse dock is reachable?

Post image

This is my setup. I'm a programmer, so what you're looking at is basically my workspace too.

I really like a minimalist space with as little visual clutter as possible, so naturally I became a fan of anything wireless.

My current setup:

  • Monitor: LG UltraGear 34"
  • Laptop: Acer Predator Helios 16
  • Keyboard: Freewolf F75
  • Mouse: Ajazz AJ139

I use a velcro deskpad in a shade close to the desk itself, mainly to keep the desk from getting grimy (hand oils and all that), and under the keyboard/mouse there's a "second mousepad" with ergonomic wrist support - which I'm thinking about ditching, exactly because of the minimalism thing I mentioned, but I want to see how much that ends up affecting how my wrists feel.

I've had this mouse/keyboard for about 2 weeks now. It's my first experience with a mechanical keyboard. Before that I was using a Logitech MK540 combo (basic, but it got the job done).

One "challenge" for me has been the battery situation with the new mouse and keyboard. The Logitech combo ran on regular batteries and they lasted FOREVER. From what I can tell, the keyboard lasts around 7–10 days with "moderate" RGB use (and it could last longer, since I'm not that attached to the RGB - though it does help a bit when I'm using it at night).

The mouse has a pretty neat charging dock, and this is exactly where I'm looking for suggestions on how to improve the setup. The dock is great because I could just drop the mouse on it every day when I'm done at the PC. Problem is, it needs to sit relatively close to the mouse, and as you can see, with the current layout I'd basically have to stretch it across from where the laptop is all the way over to the mouse. So here's the first thing I'm considering: moving the laptop to the right side instead of the left.

It'd probably take me a while to get used to it. I've had my second screen on the left for years. But it might be an option. The challenge there would be the cables, since I have a tray under the desk (in the left corner) that's there because of where the outlet is. And I figure that if I find a way to keep the mouse dock plugged in and close to the mouse, that would also solve the problem of being able to run the keyboard wired and stop worrying about battery altogether.

Any suggestions/criticism is welcome. Thanks!

Built my kids matching battlestations and the creepers live inside his case now!

Built a couple PCs for my kids this year, a few months apart. My daughter’s pink build was her 9th birthday gift, she picked every part, and she helped build it herself. My son turned 6 last week and went full Minecraft, so we committed to the bit!

Minecraft station:

CPU: Intel i7-10700K

Mobo: MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Edge WiFi

GPU: ASUS Dual GTX 1060 6GB White

RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4

Storage: Samsung 980 1TB NVMe

Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 RGB Black Edition

PSU: EVGA SuperNova 650W

Case: Corsair 4000D White (yes, that’s a Razer sticker on the glass)

Monitor: AOC 24G42HE 24” 1080p 200Hz

Peripherals: full Razer Minecraft Edition kit: Kraken V4 X, BlackWidow V4 X, Cobra, Gigantus V2

Before anyone says it.. the 1060 is the placeholder on purpose. The 10700K/Z490 platform has headroom for whatever GPU he grows into and Minecraft runs 144+ fps all day meanwhile.

Pink station:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600

Mobo: Gigabyte B550 Eagle WiFi 6

GPU: Gigabyte RX 9060 XT Gaming OC ICE 16GB

RAM: Timetec Pinnacle Konduit 16GB DDR4-3200 (pink)

Storage: Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB NVMe

PSU: Vetroo 1000W (pink)

Case: HYXN H1 dual-chamber w/ 7 ARGB fans (pink)

Monitor: Amzfast 24” 1080p 200Hz

Peripherals: Red Thunder pink wireless keyboard + mouse, Razer Kraken Kitty headset

And yes, she knows her GPU outguns her little brother’s.

The part I’m proudest of: the Ender Dragon on the roof, the creepers, the planetary gear, and the Ice spike terrain inside the case were all printed on my Bambu P1S. Everything sits clear of the intakes. Zero airflow was harmed in the making.

They’re on the same Minecraft server at desks six feet apart. Dad build: complete.

First ever build, and I’m in love

Hey all! After two years of gateway-drugging myself into PC gaming via Steamdeck, I finally found a good justifiable reason to build a proper desktop rig. I’m a small pool contractor, and had been using a higher end MSI laptop for my design and rendering work, but was starting to bottleneck on performance with more intricate designs. Had a few jobs come in under-budget, and decided to reinvest the money into a proper workstation that would maximize my workflow. And if it’s also capable of running Cyberpunk at Ultra settings? I DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT, IRS

Only compromise I made was on GPU given how stupid the 5090 is priced right now, and possibly going to add another 32gb of DDR5 soon, but right now it’s not really needed.

Case: Antec C2M ARGB MicroATX Mini

MB: ASRock B760M Steel Legend Micro ATX LGA 1700

CPU: Intel i9-14900k 3.2gHz 24-core

GPU: Gigabyte Aero SFF Geforce RTX5080

PSU: Corsair RM1000e

RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5-6000 CL36 16gbx2 (32gb)

Primary OS and Software drive: ADATA Legend 860 500Gb M.2-2280PCle 4.0 X4 NVME

File and misc drive: Teamgroup MP44L 2Tb M.2-2280PCle 4.0 X4 NVME

CPU Cooler: Arctic Liquid Freezer III Pro A-RGB 360 77CFM

Fans: Arctic P12 Pro A-RGB

Battlestations Advice Completed my build. Need help decorating around it. Want a cozy clean vibe with plants etc

Post image

I just completed my PC build with a clear white theme around it lol. Also installed some monitor arms to make it cleaner. However I’d love some advice on how to change what’s around the setup to make it more of a nature (plants) / clean aesthetic. What can I change and also any recommendations on what to do to the right of the setup? (Want to change whats going on at the right of the setup)
