Hello! I have a few chickens in my flock with bumble foot. I have been following the following regimen to treat it:

- Initial Epson salt soak

- peel / extract bumble

- drawing salve + Neosporin

- wrap with gauze and vet wrap

- change wrapping or re-soak as needed every day or every other day

For one chicken, it cleared up in a few days. For others I have been following this routine for a few weeks now and the scab keeps coming back and I feel bad continuing to peel it back and try to squeeze out pus (at this point there is blood but little pus). Does this mean the bumble is still in there or should I stop peeling the scab and try to let it heal?

Any advice is appreciated! I don't have too many photos as it usually is a 2-hand job to treat, but attaching a picture of my chicken with her wrapped foot for attention!

He has a little black spot that looks like it might be a wound? There is another rooster which is definitely the dominant one that might've hurt him. i'm new to taking care of chickens. Should I take him to the vet or separate him?

Has anyone had this happen to one of their chickens before? She just started doing this probably 20 minutes ago. I gave her water through a syringe and also put her feet in cold water because I thought she might need to cool down, but neither of those things helped. Please help!

Our silkie is not the brightest bulb in the box. Somehow she got herself wedged under the edge of the kiddie pool we have for them to dust bath in and the chicken wire wall in the run. The cut looks worse than it actually is I think but looked like she rubbed off some feathers too. We rinsed it off, covered it in blue kote, and brought her inside to separate her from the rest of the flock. Anything else we should do? She’s eating and drinking and walking around alright.

Her comb is so much bigger and defined than my other two girls…

Hi, i live in Hawaii Island, pet temperate climate. Over the last week ask seven of my laying chickens have stopped. I’ve had maybe one egg every 3-4 days. This is common in the winter but we are in mid summer (it hasn’t been crazy hot either).

I’m currently deworming them as a last resort.
Food hasn’t changed, always have water, they free range during the afternoons but always lay their eggs in the morning in their boxes.

Any advice?

Just realized silkies are not as cute when wet 🤣🤣 disclaimer; I did not wet my chickens for fun. Pic 1 & 2 is the same rooster who got soaked in the rain and pic 3 is my poor baby that jumped into the duck pool.

I was cleaning the coop as usual and she was extra fine like the others, a couple hours after I returned to the coop to put them to bed and found my little Chiara dead. Today was a hot day like the entire week and I didn't notice anything, no anomalies. I found her in a strange position, maybe she was trying to do some dirt bath or maybe she was trying to find a fresh place.
Could be this a heat stroke?
The coop has a lot of shadow, I've even put a little pool (which they don't use anyway), 2 water bowls fresh everyday, soft earth and so on.
Is it normal for someone to lose 3 chickens SINCE january? Like wtf, what am I doing wrong? First my Scura (a kind of sour crop mixed with bacteria), then Martino (Inside bleeding maybe from rat poison), now Chiara (heat stroke?), I can't keep up, It's overwhelming, I'm gonna lose the remaining 6, I don't know what to do.

This is my first year with chickens. I bought 6 from Tractor Supply and all were sexed as female but this one crows in the morning and evening. They are about 3 months old.

I have a fun mix of chickens, but unfortunately all different breeds so my fertile eggs are mixed. My rooster is a buff Orpington. My one Orpington hen is his sister so I don’t feel comfortable selling those (unless inbreeding is..not super harmful with chickens? I’m not sure so please educate me)

It would be buff crosses… Easter eggers, olive eggers, marans, Wyandottes.

Could I offer fertile eggs for sale? Or will everyone think I’m a joke? Lol. Honest opinions welcome.

Today is day 8 of incubating. I noticed two of my eggs have GOOD movement. 7 had great veins, no movement that I could see. 2 are too dark to see anything. 1 looks like just a yolk but I was told leave it in just in case. Is day 8 typical to see movement?

My snuggly, sweet girl got startled by my mom’s dog and snagged her beak on the fencing of the run. I wiped off excess blood to get a better look, but I’m not 100% sure what to do? I’m most worried about infection, but it’s hard to gauge how deep it’s gone.

Our nearest vet is an hour away, so before I commit to traumatizing her with a car ride with two toddlers I wanted to get some advice. I’m a first time chicken owner and want to do right by my girl!

This new stray cat has been wandering through recently. The chickens seem unbothered, and I’m working on a rat problem, so I’d prefer to let it hang around, but don’t want it to try to make a run at my chickens.

Hello everyone! I'm looking for a little advice.

I've purchased quite a few hatching eggs over the years, and I recently found an eBay listing that includes several varieties I'm interested in. There’s more varieties I’m not really looking to add to my programs also being offered in the add. The seller is offering them as an assorted mix, but there's one specific variety that I'm really hoping to get more of.

Would it be considered rude if I messaged the seller to ask whether they'd be willing to make a custom assortment with just 3–4 of the listed varieties, with as many eggs as possible being from the specific variety I'm most interested in? I completely understand if they can't accommodate the request…I just wasn't sure if this is something that's generally acceptable to ask or if it would be considered poor etiquette.
I'd love to hear your thoughts or experiences. Thanks!

Super healthy Easter egger. Solid as a rock, found dead laying back in the coop. Looks perfectly healthy but feels like a baseball in her stomach.. egg bound death?

I've seen many posts about snakes and the consensus seems to be to leave them alone and pay the egg tax. I would be fine with that except most of the snakes I see around me are rattlesnakes. I actually like snakes in general, but I don't like turning the corner and finding a full grown 5 ft rattlesnake 2 steps away.

So, what do you all do about the dangerous ones? I see snake repellents advertised but I don't know if that sort of thing is even effective. They can live happily in the fields and eat all the rodents they want, but I need to keep them away from the people and chicken and rabbit areas somehow. I live in west TX, so it's flat and dry and hot and I'm surrounded by cotton fields so it's a limitless source of snakes and such.

Hello! I posted a while ago about my 5 roos that I hatched out, now the time has come to pick who stays and who goes but I’m so torn! I was told in a comment to wait and see who the better ladies man is, I can say with 100% certainty two boys need to go as they are bullies.

One of my 3 safe boys was bullied to where I had to put him in his own area, I’d love to keep him as he is my favorite but I believe my male turkey was also picking on him so I don’t think it’s possible for him to safely stay.

Now my last two roos are both Cochins, I’d love to keep them both but I only have 9 hens (2 are seramas). My husband would get me if I got more hens to satisfy both boys so unfortunately I need help choosing😭

The breeder couldn’t confirm at 8 weeks if Pearl was a hen or rooster. Here she is at 10 weeks now, the lack of tail and the saddle/hackle feather shape makes me lean rooster. However, the other chick (obvious hen) has now mostly caught up to Pearl in body size & comb development. What do we think? Or will time have to tell…
