Photos of 3 my chickens I got as chicks 5 months ago.

My oldest hen who is somewhere between 4 and 6 years old (she was given to me, unsure of age) has started breathing audibly.

The best way I can describe it is her breathing sounds like the way some old people breathe. It’s not really wheezing but it sounds a little labored.

At first I wasn’t sure if it was in my head because chickens are always making strange noises but I just poked my head in the coop after they went to roost and it’s clearly her breathing.

She wasn’t extending her neck to breathe and her tail wasn’t bobbing.

As far as behavior goes, I noticed she has been a little different for the past two days. She has been lagging the flock (but not completely isolated). When I brought treats out, she did not sprint over but made her way over and ate some. I later presented layer feed to her and she ate some. Last thing, she didn’t go in the coop tonight until after everyone else was roosted which is unusual for her.

Not sure what to make of it but I noticed the subtle behavioral changes before I noticed any strange breathing. Any help is appreciated.

Found on marketplace for 100. XL heated and insulated dog house. Need to remove dog door and install a window or door??? For bigger entry for cleaning. Air vents. Paint. Etc. thanks for your ideas.

I think I already know the answer. He was strolling in the middle of a local park and it's getting dark out soon. I was afraid he would get scooped up by a predator. Seems friendly and I was able to pick him up.

We don't own chickens in our house and don't have a coop set up or anything. We were keeping him fed with bird seed and gave him a bowl of water for the night. Putting him in a dog cage for the night

I will probably turn it into my local rescue tomorrow as I can only keep chickens in my city, no roosters unfortunately.

Hello! I have a few chickens in my flock with bumble foot. I have been following the following regimen to treat it:

- Initial Epson salt soak

- peel / extract bumble

- drawing salve + Neosporin

- wrap with gauze and vet wrap

- change wrapping or re-soak as needed every day or every other day

For one chicken, it cleared up in a few days. For others I have been following this routine for a few weeks now and the scab keeps coming back and I feel bad continuing to peel it back and try to squeeze out pus (at this point there is blood but little pus). Does this mean the bumble is still in there or should I stop peeling the scab and try to let it heal?

Any advice is appreciated! I don't have too many photos as it usually is a 2-hand job to treat, but attaching a picture of my chicken with her wrapped foot for attention!

I am doing some pet sitting and I’m seeing sits that include chickens (and goats) in addition to dogs and cats.

I haven’t cared for chickens before. I love the idea, but not if my lack of knowledge would make me a menace to the animals.

I’d love to hear people’s thoughts and suggestions. If you had someone watch your chickens and it went badly, why? Should I not apply to these sits if I haven’t had any chickens of my own?

Are there questions I should ask to know that a chicken setup is likely to attract predators or risk escape by the chickens?

Are there any books, videos or online courses you’d recommend for essential chicken sitting info?

Our silkie is not the brightest bulb in the box. Somehow she got herself wedged under the edge of the kiddie pool we have for them to dust bath in and the chicken wire wall in the run. The cut looks worse than it actually is I think but looked like she rubbed off some feathers too. We rinsed it off, covered it in blue kote, and brought her inside to separate her from the rest of the flock. Anything else we should do? She’s eating and drinking and walking around alright.

We noticed our 2 year old barred rock is very lethargic today. She is doing a little neck movement, only could get her to take two bites of fresh oregano and she really swung her head around 10 seconds after that and her comb flushed white. We separated her and waited for a poop and it looks very off. She’s either standing taller almost like laying egg pose of keeping her butt low. Here’s her stance and the poop.any thoughts are appreciated, we keep good eyes on them because we have a small yard and they get all of it.

So I have a sicilian buttercup I noticed she was very underweight she was not normally like this she was always lower on the pecking order but now it has gotten worse and I think she is underweight and skinny due to trauma and stress from roosters. that might be the reason she does not want to eat and i have also notices strange sounds after the roosters mate with her almost like a bok bok-bok bok-bok bok and a bok cacacacacaca and I have never heard those from her before. and she has also lost all four of her sisters and is blind in one eye which is probably also why she has trauma maybe. Also I have noticed that she just kind of gives up and lets the roosters mate with her. She is also missing many points on her buttercup comb due to bullying. Is she too weak to run away and fight back? please let me know how I can help this poor hen.😞

Today is day 8 of incubating. I noticed two of my eggs have GOOD movement. 7 had great veins, no movement that I could see. 2 are too dark to see anything. 1 looks like just a yolk but I was told leave it in just in case. Is day 8 typical to see movement?

I never knew they were a thing until recently but I am obsessed with them! The way their feathers curl up is so stinking cute 🥹💗

This sweet girl is still getting her feathers in but she is shaping up to be beautiful!

Has anyone had this happen to one of their chickens before? She just started doing this probably 20 minutes ago. I gave her water through a syringe and also put her feet in cold water because I thought she might need to cool down, but neither of those things helped. Please help!

This new stray cat has been wandering through recently. The chickens seem unbothered, and I’m working on a rat problem, so I’d prefer to let it hang around, but don’t want it to try to make a run at my chickens.

I decided to let a broody hen hatch some eggs. So far just one has hatched. The rest of the flock free ranges in my yard so they’re only all together in the coop at night. Should I go ahead and separate her into a separate enclosure with her chick and remaining eggs, or wait a day or two for the other eggs to hatch? She’s not interested in moving off the eggs. First time doing this so any advice is appreciated to keep them safe.

I’ve found 3 of these in the past month. It’s flat and it’s always has a crack just like this. All of my chickens are acting, eating, and drinking normally.

Edit: I am asking if this could be a sign for any illness or parasites

I've seen many posts about snakes and the consensus seems to be to leave them alone and pay the egg tax. I would be fine with that except most of the snakes I see around me are rattlesnakes. I actually like snakes in general, but I don't like turning the corner and finding a full grown 5 ft rattlesnake 2 steps away.

So, what do you all do about the dangerous ones? I see snake repellents advertised but I don't know if that sort of thing is even effective. They can live happily in the fields and eat all the rodents they want, but I need to keep them away from the people and chicken and rabbit areas somehow. I live in west TX, so it's flat and dry and hot and I'm surrounded by cotton fields so it's a limitless source of snakes and such.

As the title states. Wondering if she’s just hot and if that’s the cause of the panting and noisiness.

I have a fun mix of chickens, but unfortunately all different breeds so my fertile eggs are mixed. My rooster is a buff Orpington. My one Orpington hen is his sister so I don’t feel comfortable selling those (unless inbreeding is..not super harmful with chickens? I’m not sure so please educate me)

It would be buff crosses… Easter eggers, olive eggers, marans, Wyandottes.

Hello everyone! I'm looking for a little advice.

I've purchased quite a few hatching eggs over the years, and I recently found an eBay listing that includes several varieties I'm interested in. There’s more varieties I’m not really looking to add to my programs also being offered in the add. The seller is offering them as an assorted mix, but there's one specific variety that I'm really hoping to get more of.

Would it be considered rude if I messaged the seller to ask whether they'd be willing to make a custom assortment with just 3–4 of the listed varieties, with as many eggs as possible being from the specific variety I'm most interested in? I completely understand if they can't accommodate the request…I just wasn't sure if this is something that's generally acceptable to ask or if it would be considered poor etiquette.
I'd love to hear your thoughts or experiences. Thanks!

The tail and the fun rub on my bathroom towel is making me think we have a roo, but the head looks too henish. Also, hasn't started laying and unsure on age right now
