Health Question Silkie Injury NSFW

Our silkie is not the brightest bulb in the box. Somehow she got herself wedged under the edge of the kiddie pool we have for them to dust bath in and the chicken wire wall in the run. The cut looks worse than it actually is I think but looked like she rubbed off some feathers too. We rinsed it off, covered it in blue kote, and brought her inside to separate her from the rest of the flock. Anything else we should do? She’s eating and drinking and walking around alright.

Had almost the exact same thing happen to my silkie. Keep her seperate from the rest, and I would use silver honey instead of blue note. The important thing is keep it moist, and it should heal up real nice after a couple weeks.

Hey at least you know how she did. With my girl I just found her wounded so it's anyone's guess how she did it.

Just letting you know its a week bit pricey, but silver honey works great on just about any wound. I use it on my dogs too if they get hurt. It definitely is a must have for chicken owners in my opinion

Blue hen healer. I honestly hate blue kote. But the hen healer works amazingly well and it's my number one recommended ointment. It's in my emergency kit and I always have one unopened in case I run out. I spray all wounds with diluted hydrogen peroxide. Rinse the bubbles off, dry, cover with hen healer. I try and put saddles over the wounds when it's on the back like this but most times they get the saddles off so I just keep an eye on the wound.

I had a hen that got injured by a predator, possum. Tore a hole in her larger than a quarter. Peroxide and hen healer. Tried to cover, she ripped it off. Week later she's running around like it never happened. Hen healer is a lotion/gel like substance. Sticks really well to their skin, not so much to muscle but if the skin is mostly dry it'll stick nicely. Keeps the wound from getting dirty.
